BCO Hiking in Houston - Hike Lake Houston Park!

BCO Hiking in Houston - Hike Lake Houston Park!

July 28, 2019 - Meet at 8:30 am, start 9 am to 10:30 am

Lake Houston Wilderness Park

25840 Farm to Market 1485, New Caney, TX 77357

Let's enjoy a week-end hike in the quiet and peaceful Lake Houston Wilderness Park.

Lake Houston Wilderness Park encompasses 4,786.6 acres of wooded parkland, approximately 30 minutes north of downtown Houston off of Highway 59 near the town of New Caney. Surprisingly, this is actually a City of Houston Park, recently under development to provide more outdoor activities, including hiking, canoeing, biking, horse-back riding, and camping.  It's a fun place to explore.

To reach the park from Houston, take US Highway 59 north to the New Caney exit, FM 1485; travel east ~2.5 miles to new park entrance, located on the south side of the road. (Note, continue past Baptist Encampment Road with flashing yellow light.)  When you reach the entrance gate after a short drive, turn right on the Loop Road, then right on Nature Center Road, until you come to a parking lot on the left in sight of the nature center.

We'll meet at 8:30 am for an hour hike, and hike 6-8 miles (RT) on wooded trails and along pleasant creeks. Look for group (and the BCO sign) in Nature Center parking lot for Lake Houston Park at 8:30 am. Bring your camera, a snack, water, and comfortable walking shoes. A $3 entry fee is required for all visitors ages 13 – 64.

(Please, give yourself plenty of time to find the start location,  We will leave right at 9 am!)

Pets are not allowed in buildings in the park. All pets must be kept on a leash. And this is a long hike so please be sure your dog is up to it.   Bring plenty of water and doggie bags for them
