Mod Happy Hour at Alabama Theatre

Houston Mod invites you to join us Monday, November 9, from 6 p.m.-8 p.m. as we participate in a special happy hour at the Alabama Theatre, formerly the Bookstop, 2922 South Shepherd.

The theatre was featured in the recent Houston Mod gallery exhibit, Endangered Modern. It is currently listed for lease and facing an uncertain future.

This evening event is hosted by 29-95, a group bringing attention to the diverse arts scene within Houston. (The 29-95 name is derived from the latitude and longitude of our very own Houston, Texas). It honors two organizations, Houston Mod and the Cinema Arts Society , another non-profit Houston group that is hosting the 2009 Cinema Arts Festival.

What's going on at this happy hour?

~See the historic building and admire its soaring interior spaces.

~Check out the Cinema Arts Society's H Box , a state-of-the-art device that is part art gallery, part cinema. The H-Box will be showing video and short films by 10 artists. The film by Dora Garcia scrutinizes a derelict architectural icon of 20th-century modernist architecture in Brussels.

~Participate in a book and DVD film swap. In homage to the building's history as a bookstore and a movie theater, guests are encouraged to bring their gently used books and movies to swap.

~Learn more about Houston Mod. Become a member and help promote the preservation of modern architecture. Houston Mod publications will be available including the new book about Houston architect William Jenkins.

~Refreshments will be provided by Saint Arnold and Late Nite Pie.

We hope to see you there!
