Major demolition work will begin on Wednesday, June 28. Dear colleagues, We are writing to share information about the planning and preparation for the demolition of Old Sid Richardson College to make way for Colleges 12 and 13. While this work is taking place, our team is committed to keeping the site area safe to ensure a smooth operation. To that end, please review the safety precautions listed below: Pedestrian Traffic: As preparation and demolition activities intensify around Old Sid and the South Colleges Lot, please be mindful of heavy pedestrian traffic in these areas. While pathways to New Sid Rich will be maintained on the south side, pedestrians are encouraged to explore alternative access points. Please refer to the pedestrian access map below to assist with that. Vehicle Parking and Traffic: Although some parking spaces will be coned off for construction purposes, parking will remain available in the South Colleges Lot. There will be limited parking capacity during this time. Project site access by construction vehicles will be through Campus Entrances 3 and 4. A flag person will be present to guide and ensure the safety of all individuals in the area. This work is scheduled to complete by October 2023. hindesky
I wonder if this is going to affect his winning design for the new student center at Rice? "The Financial Times reported that Adjaye allegedly engaged in sexual misconduct with employees in 2018 and 2019 while working on projects. Adjaye and his firm are accused of “different forms of exploitation — from alleged sexual assault and sexual harassment by him to a toxic work culture — that have gone unchecked for years,” the FT said. At least two projects have been affected by the allegations. Multnomah County Public Library in Oregon has cut ties with the firm which also has been removed rom the UK's Holocaust memorial project." https://www.bisnow.com/national/news/architecture-design/architect-david-adjaye-loses-business-in-wake-of-sexual-misconduct-allegations-119669 https://www.ft.com/content/1a03a13c-a0b3-41c9-9a7b-702719ac6d58

I can't imagine that Rice will continue the relationship with him in light of these allegations. That would certainly explain why the Memorial Center demolition that was supposed to start at the end of the spring semester hasn't happened yet - in fact, they don't even appear to have moved anything out of the building, or made any of the visible preparations you'd expect for an impending demolition. I was just on campus a couple of days ago and although I didn't go inside the Memorial Center, looking inside through the glass doors it appeared to be business as usual there.
