I just don’t believe there is any residual effect from the supposed exposure of hosting the World Cup. The economic impacts are real while the events are hosted. I’ll chime in on this, but I don’t have any real world data besides my own recent observation. I recently had a friend from Germany coming to visit town, he had heard about Houston, but not great things. His perception was cars, highways, and cowboys As I showed him the city, his perception changed, and mentioned how much greener, prettier, and better it was than expected. He loved the arts scene and cultural institutions here as well. He liked it so much that he is now planning another trip to Houston for the Rodeo, and wants to bring his friends with him. This might be a dumb and tiny example that has no meaningful impact, but on the scale of the World Cup, it can have a huge residual effect. Many people can come to see Houston as a potential destination for themselves, their business, or whatever it is that suits them.

The amount of trash has also significantly increased. "Luxury loos" are being installed on the Capitol Street sidewalk and will only be accessible from within Jones Hall. I'm guessing a pair of the glass doors in front will somehow be dedicated to access the loos! Edit: curiosity killed the cat! I drove by to check it out, and yes it looks like two sets of glass doors in front are cordoned off for bathroom access outside. The entire side on Capitol is cordoned off. bobruss
Drove by this today and the wood structure is amazing! Pictures don't do it justice. Its something you need to see in person. It's going to be a dynamic addition to the theater district and I would imagine a go to place for a drink after work or before a performance.

Can confirm, went to the symphony last night and was surprised to be escorted outside at intermission to use the bathroom. They were not luxury. 1

hbg.50
Went to the Wortham last night and discovered the entrance on Texas to underground parking is now fenced off. I had to loop around and enter on Prairie. Getting out of the garage also took much longer than usual…not sure if construction related but I’m guessing so. Oh and parking was $15 instead of $12! Maybe that’s deliberate to steer demand to other parking garages??

hbg.50
^^ plus the renovations to Jones Hall is very exciting. Received this email earlier in the week: The 2023–24 Season will be announced via email on March 28 followed shortly by a full Season brochure and renewal packet! The new season brings exciting change to our performance home: as part of a multi-year renovation of Jones Hall, patrons will enjoy brand-new seats at the start of the 2023–24 Season. Learn more about the renovation › Before you receive your renewal packet, we wanted to note that the new seats will use a different numbering system on the orchestra level. On the Louisiana Street side (stage left), all seats will have odd numbers. On the Texas Avenue side (stage right), all seats will have even numbers. In the center-orchestra section, seats will start with 101. As a result of this change, the seating assignment on your order form may look different, but your physical location in the Hall is the same. View the new seating charts here.

Popular Post hindesky
"Houston’s Theater District will be getting a makeover with a new, very green plaza square and a rooftop lawn that will play host to outdoor performances, a restaurant and special events. Lynn Wyatt Square for the Performing Arts is being designed to be a more inclusive, lively area in downtown Houston. The space formerly known as Jones Plaza is part of the Houston First Corporation’s efforts to redesign the plaza area in the Theater District. The one-and-a-half acre project, now under construction, is a collaborative effort designed by international design collective Rios and Harrison Kornberg Architects." https://www.houstonchronicle.com/news/houston-texas/trending/article/houston-theater-district-new-plaza-17922516.php#photo-23729448

BEES?!
Great shots, cityliving! Is there an updated opening date they’re targeting for this? Or is it still TBD? I think this is turning out to look really nice. Though I suppose once the fences all come down we’ll get a better idea of how it feels at street level. Hopefully much more inviting than its predecessor.
