Houston has the greatest population density in Texas. Austin has more people living downtown than Dallas or Houston, but outside of downtown, Austin's population density plummets to endless rows of single-family homes. Developers there have to fight tooth and nail just to build the kind of townhomes that we're so quick to take for granted.

KinkaidAlum
Is that the old EMOS/Club Some across the street? Man, has that area changed. I remember being held up at knife point walking to my car from Some one night!

The owner, Jay Hollyfield, had his living quarters upstairs.

MidCenturyMoldy
Has it been mentioned that it's odd that the pool deck and all those surrounding windows and balconies are facing away from Downtown? Seems like a major waste of a spectacular view. I guess they think having afternoon sun is more important.
Popular Post kbates2
Yeah, for me the sun at the pool trumps a view. Plus, this way you get pool view or downtown view and so more of the building is desirable. Edited August 19, 2021 by kbates2

Yeah, that makes sense. Must be that I'm too old to still care much about the pool.
Valhalla
I've always wondered why you never see wrap apartments higher than 15ish floors. Would it just be too many units? Or it there a structural problem I'm not seeing.

If memory serves, older single family homes, small apartment houses, empty lots and, I think I remember TIRR (The Institute for Rehabilitation and Research) had something on the block this is being built on. 1 1

wilcal
Damnit, you beat me to it. Hindesky is the fastest draw in the west. Edit: Also, when I pulled on the street and saw the tape across the road, my first thought was that they weren't allowed to close the entire street. THEN I saw the orange crane. hindesky
First thing that caught my attention was why are all these workers milling around? In the street, sitting on the curbs. I was driving north on Helena coming from Fairview. Edited September 27, 2021 by hindesky

From the aerial photos it looks like one of the telescoping sections is bent, which led me to believe that it was going to have to be disassembled before they could remove it from the site.
J Money
Do you think there's going to be an extended shutdown to investigate? I recall that occurring for the incidents at the new hotel off I45 N and the Hard Rock in Nola... certainly not nearly as bad in this situation though. It looks like at least 2 floors have been damaged. I wonder how much they'll have to repair.

I noticed some damage to the ZOOMLION crane as shown in this pic I took yesterday. That or it got hit as the mobile crane was coming down.
