  1. It turns out that, for the better part of the 20th Century, the 913 Franklin space was occupied by the Houston Watch Company, a sort of unofficial quartermaster for railroad engineers, conductors, etc (the Bayou Lofts was previously the Southern Pacific Railroad Company). As we did more research (and found more artifacts from the shop as we cleaned out the space) we realized that it really already had an identity and didn't need us to give it a new one. Also "Captain Foxheart's Bad News Bar and Spirit Lodge" was already taken.
  2. From today's walk to lunch. 809 Congress has been painted. Interior looks largely complete except for the floors. 809 Congress by differentryana, on Flickr The retail space below the Hermann Lofts, formerly Macondo, is getting torn out. Reliable sources indicate this will be a Subway. Two in a two block radius. Downtown Houston has finally arrived. Hermann Lofts retail. by differentryana, on Flickr Shameless plug - my own bar, the Houston Watch Co, will open in the old Franklin St. Coffee House space adjacent to the Bayou Lofts lobby in early 2015. 3. Tower Crane is going up. Are all your pictures showing up the wrong orientation as well?
  4. Map on page five helpfully re-christens Montrose as "Hyde Park"so as to not get the internet all riled up.
  5. I live in the Bayou Lofts and face south, towards the Rice. I noticed lately that there are some stringed lights on the roof there at night that I don't think I noticed before. They doing some sort of roof-deck improvements?
