  1. You right. I misread the "four" Houston center entry.
  2. According to Emporis this building will be 859 feet tall, the fourth tallest downtown. Two more feet and it would be the third tallest. I guess they are not interested in bragging rights.
  3. Interesting speculation 102IAH express. I hope you are correct. Could you possibly elaborate on this? First what do you mean by SALT? This use to mean Strategic Arms Limitation Treaty in olden days.
  4. I don't have problems with 30 to 50 story buildings. Agree with the infill statement. Only complaint has to do with the style of this building. Seems a shruken version of the BG building.
  5. These are like end of the world signs. Numerous and Tiresome but eventually it will happen
  6. The renderings certainly convey elegance. Hopefully it won't get "Alessandrized". Any news on groundbreaking?
  7. Anyone familiar with the site and topography? Height not distance from water is the crucial factor whether flooding occurs.
  8. Houston is somewhat eccentric. I do not mean that as a put down or to suggest our city puts on "weird" airs of attempted hipness like other cities. It just is a tough city to label and its layout reflects it.
  9. Knew the parking lot had a limited future but that was fast. TMC is an awe inspiring place. It grows by leaps and bounds.
  10. The little bank building and the surface parking lot have a limited future I suspect. Main street here is being "canyonized" like Fannin. Looks great.
  11. Soon it will block the view of Pennzoil Place from this angle. I believe it is approx 50 ft taller.
  12. What do you all think of the three surface lots between Austin and Caroline, south of the Four season? It is near several hotels, discovery green, the convention center, MMP, toyota center and is walking distance to rail lines. One last thing, when the Hardy downtown connector is finished this area of the downtown will have fast access to Bush Intercontinental.
  13. This is way off topic but isn't 400 the number of people that fit into Astor's ballroom? I'm no mobility expert but surely a rail line in Houston could out do that.
  14. My parents, uncles, aunts, several cousins, and my children are all immigrants and we are all documented hence legal, if we did not have the documents we would be illegal. In almost all countries in the world if you enter without going through an approved process you are in the country illegally.
  15. Waited a long time for this, but how sweet it is! First NYC and then LA. Hard fought series. Perfect!
  16. Why would Amazon go for Austin? Austin has UT, a good music scene, and some nice hills ( pluses), but no major airport, no major league sports, I understand the traffic is quite bad, and where is their mass transit? Austin's "weirdness" image is all mass produced "weirdness" you can see anywhere. Overrated. As much as it pains me to say, DFW and Atlanta are better picks, especially Dallas. Houston of course is the best of all picks.
  17. My children and I live in Walden on Lake Houston, agree with the article. Very affordable, beautiful are with much greenery and the lake. Culturally and ethnically varied. Very few areas flooded during Harvey. We live along the lake and did not flood. Most folks are polite and friendly. The only setback is one common to many suburbs, lack of cultural amenities.
  18. How much of a chance do you all Generation Park has? Area did not flood, it is near the airport, along the beltway, and near some fine housing. Cultural amenities are a bit thin. For whatever it's worth, which isn't much, I prefer gmac's suggestion or building it in the south east corner of the downtown
  19. I would not be too upset. After all the destruction around where we live, it is pleasant to hear about new places opening up.
  20. That may or may not be true. I haven't seen data regarding this so I hold off judgement. I do know that the high density you speak of jumps housing and rental costs way up ( See San Francisco and Boston). These cities are very difficult for middle class families with children. That is why the suburbs in DFW, KC, Minn-St.Paul etc are so popular for those folks. Regardless you are going to flood when you get 40 to 50 inches of rain. Hurricane Mitch in 1998 dumped up to 6 feet of rain in central America and floods occurred. Hurricane Juan, in 1985, dumped 15 to 20 inches in S.Louisiana with of course floods. Development may or may not contribute but with these rains it will flood, and flood badly. Lake Houston is 64 years old and needs dredging. I am not an engineer but my guess is a gigantic drainage basin needs to be constructed in the area to catch excess water and quickly drain it to the Bay.
