Not familiar with the house but just because it doesn't have windows in the front doesn't mean it doesn't have windows. In fact, there are many houses in our neighborhood that have planar facades in the front and, once you go inside, you're greeted with floor to ceiling windows overlooking gardens. Appearances can be deceptive.

Can you provide some more insight on the photo shoot... that may help us identify someone who can help out.

I wish we could track down some pictures of what T&C Village used to look like before they put up the mall. It's hard to forget Panjo's. You could order pizza shaped like a star, an airplane or other cool shapes. As a kid, I also liked going there because you could get a free Panjo's spinning top. There was the old Country Playhouse, complete with windmill. Across the street was the Barbizon Art Gallery, right next to Joske's. Oshman's used to be there, as well, before they moved to the Gessner area. Oh... as for that Chinese place? I used to love their shrimp. Someone must have pictures...

What's kills me is that she knows what she has on her hands... she owns three other modern houses, two of which are really spectacular. I would've sent her business in the past because I thought she was for preservation... no way I would now.

We went by around noon... quite a few people there checking it out. I see a lot of great potential in this idea. I hope it sticks and takes off.

The issue is not the food, it's the building... a spirited interpretation of Googie arcthitecture that was recognized by the AIA as a great design.

Well, it sounds like that spot on the corner of Gessner and I-10 will become a 9-story professional bldg. I hope I'm wrong. The latest I heard was that Central Market might end up in the new Town & Country. Wishful thinking...?

I keep thinking I need to drive over there and take pictures of the Bali Hai - a great little place.

If that is the case (which sucks, as usual), is there any way to salvage whatever can be salvaged? Crap like this continues to really piss me off.

I guess I tend to get what's going on in the 3rd Ward. My take is that there are many in the 3rd Ward to realize that their neighborhood is an imperfect one. While I'm sure all want to improve the area, they don't want to do so at the risk of erasing the cultural identity of the 3rd Ward. Perhaps they're all too familiar with how many developers are razing any buidling, regarding of historical or cultural signifance, to put up bland and generic townhouses and McMansions. Perhaps they don't want to see this: ...replaced by this: I'm about as conservative as they come but I really hate how this town is wiping out neighborhoods and replacing them with McMansions, cheap apartments and bland Perry Homes townhouses.

True... it's not quite inside the loop but in Hilshire Village, one of the Memorial area (although north of I-10) villages. That is a good price given the location. Also, Lawyer made quite a name for himself as an architect - not necessarily residential - so that might add something to it. I believe that with a bit of cleaning up, that could be a great house.

I spotted this on HAR.com today. A high end house, no doubt... The site lists it as being designed by the sole owner/architect. HCAD lists the owner as Frank D. Lawyer. It is... a local Chinese family opened the one in Galveston. It was the first Chinese restaurant on the island.

Houston Mod is all for preserving art deco, streamline moderne, etc. Absolutely.

I would say that houses in Sugarland aren't McMansions... they're just bland and generic tract houses - completely boring neighborhoods. Very mundane. McMansions are what oyu find in Braes Heights, Bellaire, Briarcroft, Briargrove... they're popping up all over the place, displacing ranch houses, modern homes and otherwise normal houses.
