    We got to the Bayou City Farmers' Market just before they were closing so we didn't get to see all they had.

    The Canino Market was wild, this was our first time there and we were impressed by all the produce available. You can get anything you want there.

    But, yeah, there needs to be more of these types of markets, esp. the organic market. You see a lot of this type of stuff in California.

    St. Luke's Episcopal Health System is planning to build a hospital on this vacant lot in Webster.

    St. Luke's Episcopal Health System is planning a hospital in Webster, a major addition to what area leaders call "the Medical Center of the south."

    The multistory facility, which is expected to have about 170 beds, is being called St. Luke's Clear Lake Hospital and will be developed by Medistar Corp., a Houston-based medical real estate developer.

    For St. Luke's, the hospital is part of its strategy to expand into the suburbs to better serve patients who live in the area's outer reaches.

    The hospital system also has facilities in The Woodlands, which it is expanding, and one in Sugar Land is under construction.

    A group of physicians will own 49 percent of the Webster hospital, which the developer said could be expanded by two floors and will cost up to $160 million to build.

  4. Great old photos.

    It would be interesting to see a photo taken at the same angle today, so we could see all of the differences. Anybody got a helicopter?

    Tried to find KCGridlocks thread on Houston on SSP but that forum is having tech difficulties right now. Once it's up and running again I check to see if KC had any shots that show the same perspective as some of these.

  5. Long-vacant downtown hotel to be renovated

    A downtown building that's been vacant since 1988 will get a $100 million face lift and be turned into an Omni luxury hotel.

    The 28-story Sheraton-Lincoln Plaza tower at 711 Polk and Louisiana was acquired for $15 million.by Songy Partnersin a joint venture with Omni Hotels

    The redeveloped hotel will have about 450 suites, fine dining restaurants and more than 30,000 square feet of meeting space.It will also feature a 13,000-square-foot wellness/ fitness center with a spa and salon.

    The lower levels of the building will be opened up with glass, to make it more accessible to pedestrians, said David Songy, CEO of Songy Partners. Gensler & Associates is the project architect.

    The renovations are scheduled to begin in late 2007 and the hotel is expected to open by mid-2009.The Sheraton-Lincoln Plaza opened in 1962 as mixed-use hotel and office building.

  6. ScreamWorld earns 'America's Best Haunts' title

    ScreamWorld Haunted Scream Park is one of 11 thrill parks in the country to be named one of "America's Best Haunts" for 2007.

    The Houston thrill park, owned by Eerie Entertainment Inc., includes The Haunted Hotel; The Edge of Darkness; Monsters in 3D; The Maze of Maniacs; and The Tobias Strange Family Cemetery.

    The only other Texas haunted attraction on the list is Thrillvania Thrill Park/Verdun Manor in Terrell, east of Dallas.

    Developer to add buildings close to I-10 and Texas 6 - 9/4/2007

    (Houston-Sugar Land-Baytown: Office)

    (Houston) - Citing strong job growth and shrinking property vacancies, Opus West Corp. is planning a two-building development in the west Houston area that would add 460,000 square feet of office space to this energy-dominated market. The Phoenix-based developer bought almost 17 acres near the southwest corner of Interstate 10 and Texas 6 for the project, to be called Energy Crossing I & II. The price was not disclosed. With or without a tenant, the company expects to start construction in the fourth quarter, with the first phase scheduled for completion a year later. Overall office vacancy in this area, known as the Energy Corridor, is less than 7 percent, and the Class A market has even less space available, according to a mid-year report by Transwestern. Class A rents are up 9 percent on an annualized basis from the end of last year through June. "Tracts of land with this size and location are in short supply in the Energy Corridor," said Cushman & Wakefield's Marshall Davidson, who was part of a team that brokered the land transaction.
