  1. indian springs is beautiful! it has rolling hills. it's quieter than grogan's mill. i've sat quietly, listening to fans of googie architecture and ranch style homes circa nineteen fifty somthing, wondering if they knew of the "loft-like" homes lifeforms had built in the woodlands. these homes can be outfitted with DWR furnishings, craftsman or prairie style elements and look great. you aren't "remuddling" the floor plan or ideals if you stick within these boundaries. these are solid homes with "timeless" floorplans. that is simply an opinion to some. me thinks it is a big secret. you can't ruin these homes with the type of interior design i've mentioned above. you can "upscale" them (again, i hate that word) easily. of course, the current "upgrades" to these homes tend to include ugly wallpaper, traditional colors and style not really appropriate for these floor plans. fortunately, this is changing. parrothead gets it. i get it. it is becoming clear to me that others........."get it". by the way.......there are now TWO (not one) houses that have sold off of north millbend that were under $115k three years ago that have sold for $135K to $140K. the "town center" effect is in full swing. there are less than 100 houses (not all on the market) in this price range near north millbend and town center.
  2. i just came back from a party. the mom of one of the party goers is a long time river oaks theatre fan. she is way PISSED. she has a salon off of woodhead or something. i was toked that others already knew of the plight of the river oaks theatre. the word is out. SAVE THE RIVER OAKS THEATRE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  3. i'm so glad to know i'm not the only one who likes these houses. i feel so at home in them.
  4. the dirt to the left is the north side of the waterway. this is the preparation for waterway square by sasaki and associates. there is another thread with more information on this project. waterway square will be surrounded by a mid rise boutique hotel and multi story condo project both with restaurants, clubs or retail on the lower levels. in the picture i posted previously with 21 waterway avenue and 25 waterway avenue, waterway square will be to the right or east of that picture. the parking garages between these structures will have street front retail, similar to what you see on the 21 waterway ave. picture, going back to and across from tinseltown. it's a freakin' walkable downtown. the downside is, it's not funky. no resale shops or hole in the wall drinking establishments. the upside is, it's across the woodlands parkway from home. bachanon prays......please god, let me make enough money to purchase a second home near the new richmond line and main in order for me to enjoy and admire the diversity of life inside the loop on a more regular basis.
  5. is that the neighborhood with the stucco issue? has it been resolved?
  6. i see. thanks for the clarification. i get a little tingly when i hear of new towers. pinpointing their location and probability is, well...........i'm a geek.
  7. the lifeforms homes lend themselves to tasteful upgrades. there are a couple i've seen that have added stone and beveled glass to the entries and front facades, completely updating and "upscaling" (hate that word) the property. update the front facade, bathrooms and kitchen, then the 20-30 foot high entries, open living areas and split floor plans will do the rest.
  8. so, the jennings island site is not the one mentioned or is not in the works?
  9. Endeavour Holdings Inc. broke ground last month on the firm's first high-rise residential building -- which also happens to be the first high-rise condominium tower on Clear Lake (endeavor condos). Things now are going so well that two more waterfront residential towers are already in the works (jennings island). And Endeavour has gotten into the marina business with a specialty partner to boot (marina niche is talking about). it sounds to me like it is referring to jennings island, as well as endeavor condos and the marina. am i wrong?
  10. certainly they could come up with a plan utilizing parking space, say behind la griglia, to build a multi level parking garage with several floors of condos above. it would add needed parking space to the center and add a residential element. should our battle cry be "REMEMBER THE BELLAIRE!!!"? guess that's too obscure for most.
  11. lifeforms is a company that one of george mitchell's sons either created or had some influence on. i live in a lifeforms home built in 1978. outside of the small bathrooms, the open floorplan is very livable. i believe that when renovations are completed, it would be easy to sell (not that i'm planning on it). there are several things to consider when buying any 20-30 year old home; however, the timber used to build these older homes is a far cry from what is being used in new homes today. one other consideration, many of the lifeforms homes were built within feet, sometimes inches, from young trees. if those same trees remain, they are 20-30 years older. i made the mistake of not hiring a foundation guy (as well as an ac/heat guy, a roofing guy and so on) for an inspection before i closed. fortunately, the foundation is sound. i was lucky. there were other considerations i could have used as a bargaining tool if i had hired inspectors for each part of the house i was concerned about. feel free to IM any questions you have.
  12. the university center at college park offers several master's programs. participating universities include a&m, ut, sam houston and u of h, prairie view a&m and u of h downtown. each university offers specific degree programs. so, if you want a business degree or mba, you have to go through shsu (i think). it is limited. however, if convenience tops the university of your choice, there it is. ok, i'm a dork. i just reread your post. yes, you would have to transfer to another school unless your specific master's program is being offered by UH at the university center. i too would like to have a UH satellite near the woodlands. the degree plan i would like to be working on is only offered at the main campus and is not offered by any other institution at the university center.
  13. i attended ORU in 83 and 84. oral roberts is a very kind man. he drove an old brown or orange (can't remember) impala around campus. the "city of faith" as it was called then had recently been completed. the complex was bigger than tulsa demographics required for a reason. oral roberts believed that people would come from around the world to seek medical help that honored science and faith. one goal of the city of faith was to be a medical research and educational institution. another goal was to sponsor international medical teams (doctors, nurses and surgeons) to donate time hitting hot spots around the globe where medicine and medical attention were needed. unfortunately, good intentions and faith should never ignore reality. good intentions and faith without a mindful dose of reality will usually result in bankruptcy and/or begging for money. i figure that statement works on the macro or micro level.
  14. bachanon's last thoughts while being wheeled in the emergency entrance at the newly finished memorial hermann hospital at memorial city............."great, i'm gonna die in this ugly building.".......oh the irony.
  15. i have a rental property in spring isd. the last bond election, less than 6 years ago (i think), increased my mortgage payment considerably. you then hear that school quality has decreased in the area. yeah, property owners should be ticked off.
  16. i've signed the petition as well. i'm from the woodlands. we use the main street line every time we come to town, FOR FUN. we would certainly benefit from the richmond line connecting with the main street line, the menil, greenway plaza and the galleria. it seems like a no brainer. sorry afton oaks. i see it as growing pains.
  17. decentralization of these enormous institutions is better for everyone. think, memorial hermann and st. luke's. now, before you say "apples and oranges", consider the benefits of easy access and commuting costs. if all major universities would consider more satellite sites, imagine how many more people could continue their education while working or taking care of their kids. imagine how enrollment would swell. it would be good for our region. it would be good for U of H.
  18. The Boardwalk on The Woodlands Waterway might be a good place to start until you get a feel for the area. The prices will be comparable to living in Midtown. You would be right across the waterway from The Pavilion, Market Street, etc. You wouldn't be far from a water taxi stop either. link the link takes you to a town center page with a nice rendering of the project. there is a link on the town center page that will take you to the website. it is under construction, but there is quite a bit of info, floorplans and so on that have been added recently.
  19. although i appreciate your opinion, i wonder if you've seen the kind of buildings being built in europe and asia right now? there are extremely creative, cutting edge, recent structures that utilize advanced technologies in engineering and materials, yet exercise restraint. this structure is a typical box with an ugly "topper". less IS more.
  20. unfortunately, the diameter of an oak tree's canopy is relative to the diameter of its root system. sever the root system and you sacrifice portions of the canopy.
  21. so, both projects are by endeavor holdings? EDI designed endeavor condos & Ziegler Cooper are designing Jenning's Island. i thought that since endeavor condo sales were going so well this project held some promise.
