  1. these neighborhoods existed when the ship channel was being built. my aunts, uncles and grandfather all moved here from tennessee for jobs. my grandfather was a welder who worked on the big 610 bridge as well as refineries. my aunts and uncles worked for refineries after ww2. these neighborhoods (manchester) existed before the ship channel. it's no surprise to me that there were street plans.
  2. actually, i had the "aloof" avatar. i haven't figured out how to use my own pics yet.
  3. the river oaks center is perfect as it is. i will be completely pissed if they lose the theater. no more kissey kissey at marfrelas. a houston landmark will be erased. damn, you real estate people!
  4. breakfast at tiffany's my fair lady st. elmo's fire willie wonka....
  5. ok ricco. stop taking mdma. i too, love the haif community. yes, i did enjoy haif before the hacker attack. yet, having more people with different ideals is fun too. btw, d.r. horton and perry homes suck!!!!!!!!!!!!
  6. all is well. all is well. i have to say that i'm pleased with the current mix of teens frequenting market street these days. lately, the kids i've seen hanging out are much more well behaved and well mannered than before. so, for the record, thanks.
  7. I thought that a period belonged INSIDE the end quotation mark only if the words being quoted were a complete sentence. Why would quotation marks be needed in the example that you've given? I started typing without caps specifically for emails and HAIF. Lately, I've returned to upper case out of necessity. I enjoy having my grammar corrected. In fact, I've corrected one or more bad habits due to comments from other HAIFers. However, I do not know if they were referring to me specifically.
  8. so, do you feel this project is doomed? or are you inferring that almeda, in this area, is established? IMHO, it seems like an unusual location for something of this caliber.
  9. i believe this is the building where adecco's offices are located. there is a luxury car rental on one side. it's on the south side of westheimer and occupies a triangular space where alabama begins. if you are traveling east on westheimer, before you get to the galleria, westheimer curves left and the far right lane turns into alabama.
  10. as much as i dislike visiting dallas, i do enjoy the buildings. i'm always excited to hear about new developments in and around downtown.
  11. this is just freakin' great. "chopped and screwed" in houston. the rap capital. every shot is going to be a back alley or a slum with the gleeming downtown in the background. every wannabe rapper is going to be coming to town through the bus station on main looking for a "dream". how freakin' LA. i hope the show is a failure. rap used to be cool (run dmc, beastie boys), now it's just posers with bling. i loathe MTV. MTV you suck. i used to "want my MTV", now i shun that crappy station. >
  12. i can narrow it down a bit. it's between i/45 and kuykendahl. map
  13. there is a steak n shake going in on 242/college park drive in front of college park high school in the woodlands. what is great about it? i haven't heard of it before. what should i order when i go?
  14. darn, i guess based on the subject title, that makes me not one.
  15. how does houston's crime problem relate to sugarland's attempt to concentrate different development types?
  16. this looks impressive. i'm interested to see if the pedestrian activity is limited to the brooks lake and oyster creek boardwalk/pedestrian trail or if it (pedestrian activity) is interconnected with the entire development. one of the issues i have with the woodlands town center is that pedestrian interconnectivity is limited in areas. i hope that lake point makes the extra effort to make it truly pedestrian friendly.
  17. my nephew opted to try out this experiment in the kitchen. the kitchen in which i had recently wiped down, at great effort, all the cabinets and counters. needless to say, he spent the next hour wiping down the kitchen.
  18. The Woodlands Development Co.i did not read the entire chronicle story.
  19. i sent a link about this current information to friends who have a home in windrose. their response was positive. they say they will be happy to have easier access to 249/290 and I-45. it isn't just the woodlands that will benefit.
  20. this past week i coerced a coworker to have lunch at "pho 518" in pearland (rather than the usual tex mex fare). the food not only lacked flavor, it was peculiar. the service was abysmal. the meats were cheap. bo luc lac is usually filet mignon (at least in my experience). this was the cheapest of stew meat. the soup tasted like it had coco or cardimom (sp?), flavors i've never known to be in traditional vietnamese pho. the vietnamese egg rolls, usually a favorite, were mushy and greasy. no homemade vietnamese rolls here. to top it off, the fish sauce and the peanut sauce were watered down. there, i had my rant. AVOID "pho 518" in pearland.
  21. i have a friend who is in from ft. worth. evidently the moist air down here agrees with her skin. she claims she doesn't need to wear make up or use moisterizers while she's here.
  22. the article on the waterway retirement community was moved to a different page. i've updated the link so that it works correctly. the woodlands includes families who have been here since its inception in the early 70s. there are families here with retirees who want to be close to town center activities and still be close to the grandkids. a percentage of people who are retiring here were already here. also, the pent up demand for this level of senior living must be great. the woodlands development company waits till the dam is about to burst before they get something off the ground. the tree line used to be important. i do not think that the "hidden city" concept is in effect any longer. with the 17 story condo tower, 10 story boutique hotel and other up coming office buildings, i don't think anyone is concerned with the tree line as a height barrier. as far as the villages are concerned, i'm not aware of existing restrictions.
