  1. man............all the great photos and all the sucky electrical/phone lines. why couldn't these have been buried during all this construction? blight, ugly, careless, dangerous. i hate the phone and electric companies. >
  2. this is exactly the type of information i'm looking for. thank you theniche. input from others will be appreciated.
  3. As some of you know, I'm currently looking to move from the industrial manufacturing sector into real estate development, construction management or peripheral jobs relative to the built environment. An opportunity is presenting itself that may allow me to complete my bachelor's degree at The University Center here in The Woodlands.. I currently have a general studies Associate of Arts from NHMCC. The University Center (TUC) has a Marketing -BBA through UHD, a General Business Admin - BBA through SHSU and a Management - BBA also through SHSU. Although there are degree plans at U of H specific to construction, commuting is not an option at this time. My question to you, oh wise HAIFers, is this: What degree plan would be best suited for the career paths I've described? Would one degree plan be more suited to say real estate development, or another for construction management? Companies I've come to admire over the years are Hines and Wulfe & Co. I realize these companies have a different focus. I mention them to give an idea of the breadth of my interests. The opportunity I have at this time is to follow my passion. My passion is the built environment: architecture, real estate development, commercial and residential construction, urban planning and historic preservation. If you've taken the time to read or respond to this, thank you for your time. Keith
  4. i checked the electroland website and the houston downtown alliance website. no mention of this project on either.
  5. i noticed cranes over towards the hardy rail yards recently. i was on 59 heading north towards the loop. i don't know of any other development between where i was and downtown. am i correct in thinking that these cranes are at the hardy rail yards? btw, i pointed them out to my dad, told him about the hardy rail yard project and he remembered having his railroad apprenticeship at that location when he was 16. he is 69 now.
  6. i've said it before............. historic/neighborhood preservation groups need to establish "save your neighborhood" kits. these kits should include the steps necessary to establish a deed restricted, neighborhood association in an existing neighborhood with specific boundaries, steps to strengthen an existing neighborhood assocation, and the names of organizations who will support these endeavors. going before city council is great. however, getting the majority of your neighbors organized so that any developer has to deal with your deed restrictions and architectural standards sounds like a plan. is it possible? i've been told it is. is it easy? i doubt it.
  7. there is a woodlands area publication called "in cahoots". it is specifically for carlton woods residents and one other 500k and up community here in the woodlands. i'm told that there was mention of this project in that publication. "in cahoots" does not have a website, only a press kit. if anyone has access to a recent issue, they may know more.
  8. I heard this evening that a 10 acre tract at the corner of Kuykendahl and Flintridge has been purchased for a "green", mixed-use complex, next to the Indian Springs shopping center. I. M. Pei is supposed to be coming in for ground breaking or some announcement in the future. I can find no mention of this in any publication. The project is to include top notch restaurants and chefs from around the world. No chains. (katiedidit will be pleased). if anyone knows about this project..........spill.
  9. i too saw the documentary about the flaws with the davinci code. i have other movies i'd rather see. i will; however, be going to listen to kerry shook's new series "decoding" the davinci code at fellowship of the woodlands this weekend with my mom.
  10. bach ponders catalog of pictures featuring the wide variety of homes in grogan's mill
  11. FOX NETWORKS GROUP BREAKS GROUND FOR NEW STUDIO/BROADCAST FACILITY Fox Networks Group has begun construction of a technical facility on 30 acres of land on Research Forest Drive just east of Technology Forest Drive in the commercial Research Forest area of The Woodlands. link
  12. The following is a copy of an email I received today. I'm sorry I couldn't post it earlier. Grogan's Mill Residents, Barry Jones will be a guest speaker at the Indian Springs Village Association meeting this evening (May 9) at 7:00 PM. The meeting is at the Sterling Ridge YMCA on Ashlane Way. He is the Wal-Mart store manager at the Woodlands Pkwy and FM 2978 store. He will not speak longer than 10 minutes and will be available to answer any questions. The presentation is not a sales pitch, but is more to address concerns and let residents know that Wal-Mart wants to be a good neighbor. This is a presentation concerning the new Woodlands Pkwy/ FM 2978 store and he will probably have no answers about the proposed store on Sawdust. But some may want to attend to see Wal-Mart's response to residents near a current store. If you have any interest, please attend. If you do attend, please let the GMVA know your thoughts on the meeting by e-mailing bruce@gmva.org. Thank you, The Grogan's Mill Village Association Board If you attend, let us know how it went.
  13. great, now you've set us up for one of those long lists of every completed development between reliant center and downtown since the completion of these aforementioned projects.
  14. i didn't get out early enough to make the farmer's market. it was raining quite a bit.
  15. the final plan looks great. i'm not sure if i like the way the pond blocks one entire side of the park. it seems it would be more attractive and useful if it (the pond) was surrounded by park space on all sides. however, it does lend to a larger "great lawn" area. festival space seems to have been a priority for the park. this is an amazing addition to downtown. finally, another piece of the puzzle (a big one at that) come into place. is it '07 yet?
  16. swanky business park with concerts, festivals, children's activities, farmer's market, book signings, free live entertainment weekly and hundreds, soon to be thousands of residents. some business park.
  17. i've seen no announcement about brian o'neill's yet. the last time i drove by, there was work being done on the interior and the tabc posters were still on the windows. i've yet to be disappointed at berryhill. of course, i order fish or shrimp tacos and a tamale or two every time. the tamales and fish tacos are their specialties. i've taken people there who do not favor these items and were underwhelmed with other items on the menu. what have you ordered? also, about town green. i read in the villager that we are getting four more bicycle cops for town center and surrounding areas. we will now have a total of eight. this may curb any shenanigans going on in the dark corners of town green.
