  1. I've always wanted to go artcrawl. Has anyone been before? Here is a link to the website. artcrawl houston It is events like these that set houston apart (imho).
  2. wal-marts go where there is demand. plain and simple.
  3. the demographics out here are remarkable. i wish someone would open a tea and tapioca bar on the riverway or at market street. anyone want to invest? i'll run it.
  4. walmart is simply ugly. this is why people of good taste have such a problem with it. it's not the low prices that are offensive, it's the big box concept with no regard for the location. i despise the fact that walmart abandons large sites with huge parking lots to build a bigger walmart across the freeway. the abandoned sites will sit empty for years.
  5. yes, it totally sucks to eat at rockfish, p.f.changs, cheesecake factory, chuys, perry's, mi luna, the woodlands' resort, berryhill, cafe express, grotto, la madelin (sp?), tommy bahama's (love that goat cheese), amerigos, kirby's steakhouse, thai ocha, kobe steakhouse, sitar, (recently) nit noi and beck's prime all the time. my complaint is that there hasn't been any vietnamese food. it's not that i don't have a plethora of options. god, you inner loopers can be so snobby. ok, i'll admit i'd like a barnaby's and a zimm's up here...but it doesn't suck to live here. we used to drive to the galleria on a special occasion to take someone to the cheesecake factory. now, it's a regular occurance. it's somewhat strange to be in close proximity to so much good food. i do love mark's on westheimer. i've never eaten food that brought me so close to.......physical pleasure(?). in fact, i could equate the dining experience at mark's with a really good sin. but, making plans to "drive" to houston to eat at a place as special as mark's makes it even more of an experience. if it was next door, it would become less of an event.
  6. the woodlands' first vietnamese restaurant is opening soon on sawdust road. the name is pho be. i'm hoping that they have the delicious vietnamese egg rolls and bo luc lac i'm familiar with from midtown. it is right next door to kremi cafe (i don't know anything about this new restaurant). if, at least, the pho (soup) is good it will be an improvement to my dining experiences around here.
  7. not everyone is as athletic as you katiedidit. isn't the whole "urban" idea to get people out of their cars and walk? i'm so freakin tired of my car. if i could afford to live on the waterway half of my weekly outings would be on foot.
  8. the woodlands development update says that the trolleys will be rolling the "3rd" quarter of 2005. i have yet to see one. it's not that i'm excited about the trolleys, really. i want to see what they look like and to see if people use them.
  9. didn't our "flawed" system elect bill clinton twice with less than 50% of the electorate?
  10. fyi. everyone posting claims that right wing christians were the only ones voting for prop 2 should check out the stats. african americans and hispanics, generally democratic leaning voters, voted overwhelmingly for prop 2. the chronicle had an article this past week. i'll look for the link and edit my post. homophobia is not only a republican right wing trait. it's worse than that. link Gay marriage ban crossed political lines, analysts say By POLLY ROSS HUGHES and R.G. RATCLIFFE Copyright 2005 Houston Chronicle Austin Bureau AUSTIN - Blacks and Hispanics who traditionally vote Democratic strongly backed the state's gay marriage ban at the ballot box this week, sometimes outpolling Republicans, analysts said Wednesday.
  11. The Greater Houston Weekly section in The Houston Chronicle last week had an article about the ongoing renovations at The Park Shops. I couldn't find a link to it. It sounds like they are opening up the east end of the mall so that it better connects with the park space outside. There will be areas to have impromptu meetings and wi-fi. In general, places to linger and a lot more light and foliage. My hope is that it would become a place for daytime workers, conventioneers and, if more entertainment venues were to open, a place to be after a game or concert.
  12. 13. my parents are having their 1972 kitchen remodeled. the builder commented that the timber used for the construction of a 1970s era house is far superior to homes built today. i took a gander at the same wood and it's amazing the quality of 2x4s from 30 years ago in comparison to the crap we have today.
  14. please explain, dbigtex. i attempted to give my conservative parents the idea that they may be reducing the legal significance of their own marriage; however, i had no specific information to interject based on the wording of the ballot. they've already voted, so i can't do anything about what they voted for/against. any light you can shed on this for me will help. thanks.
  15. no. the bayou will always flood. it has to be used in a temporary recreational fashion.
  16. all this beautification is great, but.....it's still underneath freeways. someone should commission an artist to create an abstract forest of metal (preferably not shiny) forms wrapping around the freeway pillars and undulating from the underbelly of the freeway. light it in an interesting way and walla, the freeway is not just a freeway.
  17. i don't think so. i guess i've imagined what they would look like.
  18. good news. keep us posted. if worse comes to worse and it goes to city council, we can show up on the day of the hearing in haif hats and tshirts.
  19. i agree. i'm amazed at how many restaurants in the woodlands are at capacity on week nights. going to any of the better restaurants on friday or saturday nights is a real pain. i'm looking forward to announcements for the lower level retail at 21 waterway avenue and new tenants at pinecroft (although i'm not expecting fine dining at the latter). there is also available space and what appears to be a pad site or two at market street. surely more restaurants are to come.
  20. I realize that many of the topics here have become quite long. There are times; however, when it seems a conversation is derailed by people who have not bothered to read all the prior posts. I've been guilty of this and subsequently embarrassed when I realize that I'm off topic. Do you read an entire topic before you post?
