  1. i went by the menil and rothko chapel yesterday and the broken obelisk in the reflecting pool in front of rothko is gone. anybody know what's up?
  2. i don't know where that stuff comes from. it's always after my fourth glass of 2002 rosemount shiraz. thanks for the compliment.
  3. oh the montrose! frolic and fun wasted til sun moral depravity drug induced cavity creative flare menacing stare soft hearted stone monotone tome what freakish ingenuity wakes the gods of loneliness?..... the montrose i once knew
  4. how refreshing to see you 'round, dbigtex. houston is poised for a "look-see" structure. my best hopes are for the asia society's new museum. perhaps, taniguchi (sp?) will make a splash.
  5. i see that 77507 continues beneath deer park and la porte in my key map. that's cool.
  6. i bet it's galveston or clear lake. pasadena has no water front property except for the ship shannel.
  7. when george mitchell envisioned the woodlands over 35 years ago the term "hidden city" was used as a description. also, nature is an equalizer. the idea of the woodlands was for everyone from all income brackets to interact socially. town center was always on the boards, but i'm not sure the founders could have forseen the massive amount of interest internationally in the woodlands concept. town center has become "disneyesque", much to many old timer woodlands' residents chagrin. the houston business journal posted a list of the wealthiest, most educated zip codes in the greater houston area. the woodlands, magnolia and tomball contained 4 out of the top 10. champions, in the 1960 area, contains one of those prestigious zips as well. one could argue that half of houston's brain power and residential wealth is out this way. sugarland was not in the top ten. i was amazed that you found sugarland "not" contrived. hmmmm. enjoy sugarland.

  10. an older gentleman sits down on a bench at the mall. a young punk rocker with green, blue, purple and black hair sits down next to him. the older guy can't take his eyes off of the young kid. the teenager, annoyed that grandpa is glaring at him, asks...."never did anything crazy in your life, did ya?". the old guy replies...."i got wasted and boinked a peacock some years back and i was wondering if you were my son?". ba dum pum!!!!!
  11. a co-worker of mine recently told me that alden bridge is like "pleasantville". hundreds of kids ride their bikes to school and many people use the hike and bike trails (more than the rest of the woodlands). it seems that each village has it's own personality.
  12. say "no" to the mansions. the road noise is horrible and the property owner has built several HUGE double sided billboards right over some of the units. the complex is an eyesore. the new "boardwalk" on the woodlands waterway will be, by far, one of the best new complexes in this area. however, they will not be completed until year's end.

  16. now it's back on......wonder what's happening? March 15, 2005, 10:04PM The Woodlands hires lobbyist to study issues of governance Stout to monitor any legislation on annexation By CHARLIE BIER Copyright 2005 Houston Chronicle
  17. one thing i've noticed (i'm a native houstonian) is that when i spend time in the yard or walking outside in the morning heat during the worst days of summers, the ac can get a little too cold and outside becomes more bearable. make a point to spend some time sweating it out early in the day and your body temp will adjust (somewhat) and help you tolerate the hotter days more easily. people who are inside all the time have a more difficult time with august and september. don't get hooked on ac or the heat will be miserable. one other thing to you newbies, WATER!, white/bright clothing and auto. skip the cold beer and soft drinks after may, too dehydrating.
  18. timber ridge/timber lakes is not a part of the woodlands development.
  19. i live in grogan's mill near woodlands parkway and grogan's mill drive. it takes about 40 minutes to get downtown when not in rush hour.
  20. or even the less expensive designated crosswalk with red lights/sensors in highly populated zones. centers that have a large amount of people (post oak central, for instance) contain pedestrians (or potential pedestrians) who do not want to walk to the nearest intersection (which could be quite a distance) to get across the street. in order to create a more concentrated, people friendly area cars will have to "take a back seat". pardon the pun.
