  1. it looks so natural there, i can't remember what it looked like before.
  2. looks like i'm not going to make it. ya'll have a great time. maybe i will finally meet some of you after the kiddo graduates this month.
  3. how i love being inside the loop............
  4. would love to come. may bring "a" friend. will leave the entourage elsewhere.
  5. oops, my bad. maybe it's because they've lost my payroll deposit and delayed cash deposits on more than one occasion. they look good on the books, but they are very inconsistent with customer service and "DEPOSIT BOOKKEEPING". scary. how many times can they say it was a "coding error". really.
  6. clear lake and sugarland have comparable qualities; however, they lack the cohesive, planned environment the woodlands provides. imho.
  7. we lived on grape lane right down the street in the early seventies. (moved to conroe in october '73.) my parents took me there for disney movies when i was 5 or 6.
  8. although over 30% of the woodlands population works in the woodlands, the majority of the remaining workers have jobs in the greater houston area. the woodlands shares a symbiotic relationship with houston as do all the other suburbs/exurbs. unlike other suburbs, the woodlands has a respectable list of national and international headquarters right in town center and the research forest. Anadarko Petroleum Corporation Baker Hughes Chevron Phillips Chemical Co., LLP CB&I FOX Networks Group Grant Prideco Halliburton Hewitt Associates Huntsman Chemical Co. Jones Walker Lexicon Genetics Maersk Sealand Rigaku Corp. US Oncology Winstead there are over one hundred other major corporations represented in the woodlands proper. it's funny when redscare compares the woodlands to humble and alvin. lol
  9. right, apples & oranges. and, the woodlands is not losing me. i love the woodlands. but.........culturally, there is more for an active, single person in the city.
  10. i doubt it. the woodlands, from its inception, has been focused on the future. the associations, the educational community, arts community, religious and business communities all work together for local enrichment. there is much more here than strict covenants and pta groups. the woodlands has yet to reach true "critical mass". the determination to have only mixed use buildings for all future town center development, if kept in place, will be a deciding factor in the future and look of the woodlands and the area. areas like shenandoah and oak ridge north will continue to be transformed by their proximity to the woodlands. if a developer can amass a substantial amount of acreage for a new master-planned community further outside the existing bounds of houston sprawl, they would have to improve on the successes and avoid some of the pitfalls that have occurred with the woodlands. and, try finding substantial acreage this close to an international airport and this close to the culture and benefits of "inside the loop". remember, grogan's mill was the first village created in 1973. thirty six years later, grogan's mill is beginning to experience a transformation because of its proximity to town center and major arteries, and relatively cheap home stock. the larger homes built in the 70's are being renovated and updated. some homes have been torn down or completely gutted and remodeled. the woodlands will continue to morph. outside a major depression, natural disaster, war or drastic change in the makeup of the world, i don't see it being a "has been".
  11. the decor and location are easily five stars. i left work at 24 waterway avenue friday at 5pm and walked over with a coworker we will call "stylish peruvian accountant". we found some cushy chairs… Click here to view the full review at Yelp.com

  14. the view of downtown from the garden/patio area in front of the post office's main entrance is amazing. hopefully, anything built at this location will take advantage of the view.
  15. that's not in the woodlands. creekside village is to the east between kuykendahl & gosling. the woodlands proper is north of the map location you've linked to.
  16. yes, i've been following sirenuse's twitters too. the day the wine vendor came was a fairly traumatic day for one of the owners. i offered to come over and bar the doors along side her, holding the wine hostage. we could have released the lesser brands until we reached a compromise. however, she said goodbye to her "children". it was sad to hear. rumor has it that a different concept will reopen in the same location. "crush" opens friday night. it is uber cool inside and i hope to get a better preview tomorrow. contractors are working in the rio 24 cigar & premium liquor bar location daily.
  17. ' i do love the woodlands. i will always admire the woodlands mostly because of how it originated and the intent behind its creation. by "ignorant beauty and 'shallow i'm importantness'", i'm thinking of vacant trophy wives, snooty teenagers and young professionals who act is if they've arrived simply because they live here. yes, these kind of folks are everywhere, but there is a growing concentration in my neck of the woods. i've been in the woodlands proper for 7 years and in the area most of my life. socially and culturally, at 43, i may have reached the limits of what the woodlands has to offer for me personally. the day i posted the above statement, i had spent the day in houston walking from event to event and taking the light rail to different cultural attractions. the variety of people and things to do had my head spinning. the lack of pretense in the general public while wondering around houston was in stark contrast to some people i encounter doing things around the woodlands. if you aren't raising kids and love culture, the loop is the place to be. the woodlands fascinates me, but once the kid graduates in june, i just might relocate. all in all, it's fascinating to watch the woodlands reach critical mass. very exciting.
  18. happy belated wayne! may you have a long life full of contentment and success.........and some warmer weather.
  19. i know. the wine bar in the irish section had wines from chile, california, italy..... go figure. the festival was a destination regardless. oh well.
  20. the friend i brought downtown couldn't believe that houston had public spaces like hermann park & discovery green. she's lived in northern suburbs for years and does not know what houston has to offer. it was fun to see her get excited over houston.
  21. i came down to the i-fest with a friend from the woodlands today. we parked at hermann park and road the new and improved choo choo over to the light rail line. we took the light rail to downtown and walked over to the international festival. we met some people on the light rail who were headed to the george r. brown for a book thing. $10 and you get a grocery sack full of as many books as you like. after we exhausted the offerings of the i-fest (didn't take too long) we walked over to the grb for the book thing but didn't find a bag full of anything we wanted........or, anything we wanted to carry around for the rest of the day. we stopped at the grove for mimosas and a cheese platter.....love that cheesy girl buff from silsbee! headed back to the light rail and jumped off at hermann park. walked the promenade back to the car. then, baba yega's, mimosas & sandwiches. i know you inner loopers are in touch with the fun of living downtown, but for me and my friend, it was an amazing day. the woods has nothing on living in the loop. i'm seriously thinking about moving in to town. what were you up to this beautiful day?
