  1. so, for those not so keen on connecting the dots: this would allow for equal benefits for everyone regardless of marriage status, straight or gay. therefore, gay marriage would no longer be a necessity to have equal benefits. the issue would dissolve into merely a social issue rather than a legal/constitutional issue.
  2. exactly the direction this issue should go. so, niche, are you saying that legal documents, tax rules, insurance regulations, etc should not consider marriage as a requirement for any benefit or limitation? would there be no assumed shared benefits without a primary contract holder, head of household, etc decreeing it so? would a marriage license be nothing more than an agreement/commitment between two persons? please explain.
  3. although this texas lawmaker needs to "catch up" with the rest of the world, i remember many asian-american friends who had a "christian" name and their buddhist names. they used their "christian" name on school records and in public, their buddhist names with family & close friends. it isn't unheard of for people from other nationalities to take on a second or different name in order to communicate and be understood better. that being said, an educated society should appreciate the interesting and unique differences from all over the world. take the opportunity to learn something new ms. texas lawmaker. get out some more and hang with non-christian, non-american folks a bit. you might broaden your world view and at least hesitate to say something that make you seem a little....backwoods.

  6. it is about half the size of the bayou city arts festival. however, many of the same artists are at the waterway festival. one positive thing i noticed this year, more interesting people. the crowd is getting more colorful and artsy. the first year it was only suburban families. this year, year four, there were performance artists, belly dancers, better variety of music, gay families, guys in kilts, people with pets, etc. it is getter better each year. the setting is great, we just need more interesting people to come out (no offense to the regular folks).
  7. since none of the pictures are close ups, i'm not sure you can tell the race of anyone in the photos. well, except for najat. she is from kuwait. i was with a girl from brazil another woman of indian decent.. i ran in to my friend miguel from the spanish chamber of commerce. it seems your post, musicman, was purely for the sake of saying "the woodlands is all white people". although anecdotal, my circle of friends would counter your argument.

  9. I decided to stop drinking with creeps. I decided to drink only with friends. I've lost 30 pounds. -- Ernest Hemingway An intelligent man is sometimes forced to be drunk to spend time with his fools. -- Ernest Hemmingway I drink to make other people interesting. -- George Jean Nathan When I read about the evils of drinking, I gave up reading. -- Henny Youngman Beer: The cause of, and solution to, all of life's problems. -- Homer Simpson The problem with the world is that everyone is a few drinks behind. -- Humphrey Bogart Why do I drink? So that I can write poetry. -- Jim Morrison Give me a woman who loves beer and I will conquer the world. -- Kaiser Welhelm "i so love google"
  10. god blessed us with shiner, tx which beget shiner beer. there are other beers who call texas home; however, i'd rather not attach our reputation to those less than perfect labels. "Beer is living proof that God loves us and wants to see us happy." - ben franklin
  11. unfortunately, the woodlands will continue to morph directed by market forces. there is so much money to be had. higher buildings are sure to follow. not this year or next. i think the woodlands has created a monster that will not succumb to taste or smart growth. my dear sweet woodlands is becoming the home of ignorant beauty and shallow "i'm importantness". i'm increasingly wanting the inner loop. thank goodness the "town center effect" continues to increase my home value. i will sell this bi*** and join the rest of you.
  12. some parts of westador flood. crime is on the rise in the area, especially near area businesses. the local school district is in the tank with a high drop out rate. i would avoid westador.
  13. oh, i forgot one item............the shwarma and the falafel. how i miss the smell.
  14. that's funny, especially since one very opinionated haifer has spent many many hours in local court rooms. i always enjoy haif stats. keep 'em comin' editor.
  15. i noticed this thread as i sit down to eat beck's prime. favorite foods in no specific order: premium burgers & fries sushi vietnamese steak fried piquillo peppers with basil aioli at sirenuse my dad's smoked brisket & mom's garlic green beans and creamy mashed potatoes dad's omelets mom's sherry wine cake and her rum cake
  16. growing up north of houston, tx., the only irish i knew were nuns & priests from the local catholic school. oh do they gossip.....and drink. some of the most moral folk who consume whiskey. love 'em.
  17. i'm so proud of our museums. when i was a kid, i was overwhelmed by the museum of natural science. now, i feel at home when i bring people from out of town. it is so exciting to see it grow!
  18. lol if we died the bayou green, the epa would go apes***! they would say its the refineries. i can see the picture in newsweek now.
  19. so, st. patrick died on march 17. he brought christianity to the emerald isle. during the potato famine over 1 million irish came to new york. i guess many of those folk ended up in chicago. guess i should appreciate the fact that the celebration of salvation is practiced with drinking. current evangelicals and conservative christians could learn a thing about basic human needs for jubilation. do you have any thought or ideas about the history or practice of saint patrick's day?
  20. why is it that chicago is so hip on st. paddy's day? do people in la or houston celebrate as much? what gives?
  21. is it me or does the cowboy in the back look like john tesh? it's frustrating that the gay community prolongs the "we are victims" mentality by having "events" such as this. assimilate people. "events" are not required.
