  1. yes, all the shallow newspeak dumbasses are so amazed that we have an "african american" pres that nothing else matters. it's like no one cares what he believes in, but thank god he's black!. it's monumental. it's historic. so what if he spends us into an inflationary spiral, we don't care. he's the first black pres! hallelujah! we are saved.
  2. here, here. so tired of political banter. glad we have a new president. so tired of conservative friends acting like the world is coming to an end. my hope is that obama can restore some level of civility to the political process. of course, that may require ticking off many of his appointees.
  3. i mentioned to the owner that i liked other asian foods, vietnamese, japanese. i also mentioned in a review of her other restaurants that the spring rolls were greasy and too small. the menu now has… Click here to view the full review at Yelp.com
  4. let me preface this review by saying that i've been excited about the opening of sirenuse for some time. i work in the same building. the restaurant opens up to the woodlands waterway square… Click here to view the full review at Yelp.com
  5. Happy Birthday HAIF! Thanks to our esteemed editor for seven years of growth, improvements and consistent maintenance. I spend less and less time on the internet these days. My bank, email, facebook and HAIF garner most of my web time attention. I'm grateful for the hours of entertainment and information that HAIF provides. This would not be possible without our editor's commitment to the site. Thanks a million and best wishes for the future of the HAIF Community. Keith
  6. overrated/average/not worth a wait. is it still one of tilman's chains? if so, i dislike it even more. it may be good for the galleria though. in that case hoorah.
  7. la carafe was at the top of my list too. also have enjoyed the jukebox at chapultapec, very eclectic. there was an awesome selection at the jukebox at daiquiri factory/sliders (don't remember which). it had nine inch nails, new order.....numbers/power tools music.

  10. i think the philosphical statement of such an act is profound. i wonder if the artists are involved with a local chapter of burning man?

  12. the TABC notice is in the window. anyone know who this is? the chamber doesn't know. this is going in across the street from baker street, next door to the hubbell & hudson bistro on waterway avenue. also, sirenuse euro bistro is open, also in 24 waterway. the menu is inspired but word on the street is that they are still training and having issues with consistency.
  13. the sculptures are in place. they are not lit from within. all pillars are identical. it's truly uninspiring. i had hoped for better. also, they are not much bigger than the traffic. btw, i'm getting miffed at the person in charge of the public art pieces. there are pieces with lights out for months and then they choose something banal that any cookie cutter builder could have come up with. anyone know the name of the guy managing the public art projects here in the woods?
  14. there is a tabc sign in 24 waterway next door to hubbell & hudson. it says "rio 24 cigar & premium bar". i can't find anything on it using google. anyone have any idea or know something about it?
  15. actually, my first word association was louis kahn, architect, and after that praga kahn, electronic music artist. i agree that this is the perfect part of town for this type of building and organization. can't wait to see a rendering. edit: i found several images of '07 aga kahn award winners at this website
  16. i love the site and the catalog. it supports the preservation of FLW properties. all of the products we have ordered are quality items. unique architectural christmas cards & wrapping paper too.
  17. oh, bums, downtown bums. i need to get my eyes checked, thought the title was "downtown burns".
  18. i noticed the "stars" near the moon this evening and wondered if they were planets. beautiful.
  19. "christmas shoes". poor kid buys mom shoes and the mom dies before she gets them or something like that. it's a real downer. hate it.
  20. i love living in grogan's mill off of north millbend. it's a 25 minute walk to the pavilion for concerts. i can be on the toll road in 10 minutes. there are many houses in the price range mentioned that are being updated.
  21. ahhh cabaret voltaire. my favorite is "code".
  22. crush is going in the new construction at 20 waterway across the street from goose's acre & americas. there is no news on the chocolata location.
