  1. avoid units that back up to grogan's mill/south millbend. sirens, stereos and loud motors are a constant annoyance.
  2. yes, it's called sarcasm. i forgot the wink. sorry.
  3. funny. is that the new "media hyped disaster avatars"?
  4. thank you. that does help. although, i'm don't know if 100 mph winds are that much worse than 70 mph winds. i feel much better about 70 mph.
  5. red, that's kinda my point. 110 mph sustained winds in a pine forest doesn't seem safe. however, no one seems worried about it. so, you recommend that i get soused and hope for the best? after your post about heading out for rum, i did run out and buy a twelve pack of shiner. uhhhh red, don't you think a half gallon of rum is overdoing things?
  6. today was an odd day at work on the woodlands waterway. our company moved from league city in order to be away from hurricane surges. many of the people still commuting from league city were not at work today. others living south of the woodlands left early. we cleared our desks and secured important documents away from windows. living in the woodlands, my biggest fear is high winds. when the weather guy says that the woodlands will receive 75-110 mph sustained winds for several hours, he has my full attention. the latest news that it may not even be a cat 2 at landfall is a comfort. my parents were around during the '83 hurricane. they lost power for a few days and had much clean up to see to. many people at work seemed to care little for the forecast today and seemed more worried about travel and power outages. my dad bought lumber and deck screws for my house but didn't seem worried about his. i'm stocked with water & non perishables. the gas tanks are full. the outside furniture and planters are inside the garage. the lumber dad bought is also in the garage. i'm washing all the clothes and dishes and the kid is out with friends celebrating the unexpected holiday. i still have pictures of property and important files in an easy to grab and go place....from rita. so, what have you done to prepare? do you think the winds will be an issue for us in the woodlands if the storm is cat 2 or cat 3?
  7. i do not know yet. however, there is a lot of utility ground work around the site prep. the rendering may not do it justice.
  8. ditto the adult beverage sentiment......
  9. rendering/blog artist website chronicle article i was disappointed when they moved "man's struggle for a better environment" over by shenandoah. i didn't know this was in the works. picture of sculpture "man's struggle....." you have to go to page 26 in the pdf file looking at otto rigan's website it may have been worth it. the rendering makes them look small compared to passing cars.
  10. there is some kind of new town center entry being constructed at grogan's mill & woodlands parkway. you can see a model of town center at the woodlands visitor center on woodlands parkway, west bound between six pines & grogan's mill. there are not to detailed maps on the commercial site. i do not know of a particular designer for town center. waterway square was designed by sasaki & associates. found some info on the median construction at the woodlands parkway & grogan's mill. woodlands newest public art project artist otto rigan has created ten limestone columns w/glass weighing about 7000 lbs each. they are ready and waiting for the site prep.
  11. us oncology is the building that's topped out. the one to the left is a sneek peek. and, no. the office looking structures around the parking garage have not been built. that's news to me.
  12. mom used to drag me to weiners. i hated going there. fortunately, the conroe location closed during my teen years.
  13. i have to disagree. bush turned out to be not the conservative many conservatives wished for. he was simply better than the alternative, gore. growing up in the "jesus camp" world and now, outside looking in, i'm a little bit concerned about palin. not that i wasn't tickled pink listening to her speech. but, i understand, first hand, the mentality and emotion behind "it's god's will". the line between reason and faith is blurred. i like her. i just hope she errs towards reason.
  14. judy's had a guys section. we also loved matinique on the third floor of the galleria. linen jackets with shoulder pads. i had willie wear, matinique and girbaud, mostly from marshall fields or neiman marcus. god, i just remembered generra clothing from foleys. i still have a perry ellis vest and some armani ties from the late eighties, early nineties. "you can dance if you want to, you can leave your friends behind."
  15. ok, let me rephrase: if anyone suggested that the VOTERS in the democratic primaries elected obama because his is black, there would be an uproar.
  16. i haven't read the entire thread, so i apologize if i'm repeating something that's already been said. i have basic cable. my only 24 hour news network is msnbc. while folding clothes the other day i heard keith olbermann say (he may have been reading an email) the selection of gov palin was only because she is a woman. the inference was that her experience and position on issues were irrelevant. can you imagine the uproar if someone had said that obama's popularity and selection by the dnc was only because he was black?
  17. it looked like it was still under construction the last time i saw it. i'll check it out from work tomorrow.
  18. actually, there is no growth behind the bush. it is simply a huge trunk. if you cut it back one foot, it will be bare.
  19. i put an ad in haif classifieds and it should be on mls soon. i don't want to risk getting a bad tenant and have decided to sell. the house has very little work to do to be ready to sell (paint, touch up, yard, carpet). i've met with a couple of realtors (one a relative) and the conservative thing to do is to sell. haif classified think i should remove the overgrown shrubs on the right of the garage and reveal the brick and a bedroom window? also, showed the house today. potential buyer wants to bring family member back to see it this week.
  20. as always, i enjoy when you guys share. nice pictures and thanks for sharing.
  21. yes, i've seen the renderings. however, the structures going up now are 4 waterway square, a nine story office building, and a parking garage with ground floor retail. the condo tower, hotel (rumor is ritz carlton) and one more office building have not yet broken ground. us oncology has the exterior facade going on and the parking garage is enormous. according to sources connected with the woodlands development co and harvey construction, there are two or three more office buildings going up next to us oncology that the parking garage will service. also, there is to be an area preserved to give a view of the waterway fountain from woodlands parkway. a "view" corridor from the fountain at waterway square that is visible across the waterway, between office buildings all the way to woodlands parkway. all good stuff and definitely not sugarland.
  22. "The Acre" still does not disappoint. On a recent work day lunch, I met a couple friends in the upstairs bar area. I had a Steak Salad with the always yummie Potato Leek Soup. The salad had a… Click here to view the full review at Yelp.com
