  1. another reason i enjoy haif: learning new things. today i learned about barrel distortion. i did not know it existed, but it will improve my camera skills. thanks guys.
  2. you work quick. i have some siding i'd like replaced. could you send some of that magic my direction? great picture by the way.
  3. actually, i didn't think you were "bashing" the woodlands, but maybe a bit naive.
  4. move in date for one company i know is february. waterway square should be completed next spring or early summer.
  5. that's an optical illusion. if that tower were leaning as far as the photo appears it to be. it would be a big story and i'm not sure that it would be in use.
  6. welcome to the forum, fellow woodlands resident!
  7. i drove by the other day too. lots of satellite dishes. i do not think they are going to be recording any shows here. i've heard that it is all technical.
  8. i know that when i leave an anecdotal rant, my internal redscare tape plays quietly in my head: "it's anecdotal, it won't hold water.". for the record, i don't believe i've defended the woodlands' taxes, i simply don't mind them or think they are exorbitant. of course, i do not live in an expensive home or spend alot of money. as for the comparison to giuliani's "broken window theory", i see your point; however, a good school does not have to be expensive, nor does it have to be a beauty. clean, safe, in working order, yes. the real source of community pride should be the success of the curriculum and culture. also, i agree that it should be up to each individual community as to how they want to spend their tax dollars. as a woodlands resident, i have little or no bearing on the matter (an HISD bond proposal). i'm sorry if i took advantage of an opportunity to express that chip on my shoulder. my bad. back on topic.
  9. i like this sort of information way too much. one of my best friends is an INTJ too.
  10. That is the first time I've heard anything new on these properties. However, the value of office space in Town Center coupled with demand could certainly make this location ideal for larger developments. I wonder if they are still owned by the development company or have been sold. One piece of art has been moved to Six Pines from the median of Grogan's Mill in front of these buildings. Wulfe owns a parcel intended for retail across Grogan's Mill as well. I hope the properties are not going retail. The master plan for Town Center has office structures allocated for these sites. Keep us posted. I'll start asking around.
  11. My sister and I attended school in a metal building with little insulation for eleven and nine years respectively. We both graduated with above average scores on SAT and ACT tests. It doesn't take commercial grade buildings with all the bells and whistles to educate. School Districts are way to concerned with multi-million dollar sports complexes and cow-towing to teacher's unions. None of my teachers had a lounge or private bathrooms. The teachers ate, socialized and went potty with the kids. What a novel way to cut down on bad behavior and expenses. ditto toggle3's comment.
  12. INTJ. Finally, I've taken the time to complete this questionnaire. Describes me quite well. I was surprised to see C.S.Lewis, my favorite author; William Bennett and William F. Buckley Jr., other men I admire, as INTJs. Perhaps I see myself in things that they have written. Great topic Niche. Are you surprised that the largest percentage of HAIF members are INTJ?
  13. wait, did you say "the food" resents being referred to as oriental? i got a picture in my head of dancing chopsticks and talking eggrolls.
  14. i didn't hear the area called "midtown" until the TIRZ was created. although i frequented numbers, red square, vietnamese restaurants, rich's and hebert's (pronounced hay-bear's), no one i knew called it midtown. we did know the smaller area with many vietnamese businesses as little saigon though.
  15. i wonder if the opening of americas in the woodlands this fall will coincide with the closure of the post oak location? the americas website has a wine dinner scheduled for october 22nd at post oak. as of yet, there is no opening date for the woodlands location. if anyone hears of the americas post oak being torn down, we should find out if they are preserving all the fixtures. i could use a couple custom blown glass chandeliers. anyhoo, it appears they will not be closing at post oak in october.
  16. on yelp.com, the forum tracking email includes the latest post, rather than just a notice. it includes a link if you'd like to view the entire conversation. i've found that this saves time. however, i've wished for a function like you describe on haif. i find myself pouring over every recent thread looking for threads that i want to follow. fortunately, this leads me to threads i would've otherwise not noticed. perhaps our esteemed editor will have input on this matter. good suggestion.
  17. yes, thank you for sharing frances harvey. i thoroughly enjoyed the pictures.
  18. i think that dallas far supersedes houston in tourism and the convention business. hopefully, as our ability to host larger and more frequent events grows, so will the scale of hospitality oriented developments.
  19. i've wanted to go to a sing-a-long piano bar for years. i heard there was one in the rice village area. i'm happy to hear about pete's and howl at the moon.
  20. LOL. poor arturo, pardon the pun. i'm thinking.....a couple rap videos could save this manse. i like mies van der rohe, richard meier and some michael graves; however, i don't know if i like this house. it isn't truly modern (in a strict sense of the word) is it?
  21. Lien Times: Homeowner owes county $500,000 By: TIFFANY WILLIAMS, twilliams@hcnonline.com 09/06/2007 A $4.3 million home might be put up for auction on the courthouse steps if no one steps forward to pay more than $500,000 in back taxes. Arturo Pimienta, a Woodlands resident who also owes his homeowners association about $40,000, hasn't fully paid his taxes to the county tax assessor/collector since 2002. "He's been in bankruptcy," said Kaye Brouse, an attorney with Linebarger, Goggan, Blair & Sampson, the law firm designated to collect delinquent taxes for the county. Brouse said the county will foreclose on Pimienta's two Woodlands properties, located at 66 Windward Cove on Lake Woodlands and 2 Aberdeen Crossing Place. If the mortgage company that financed the home decides to pay the tax liens, it can take possession of the property and list it back on the real estate market without any liens. "On a property as nice as Windward Cove, the mortgage company usually pays the taxes," Brouse said. "They don't want to lose their money." full story i can't find a picture of this modern, lakeside home. it's almost 25k square feet. it was on the market for $7.8 million earlier in the year (or last year). it has fallen into disrepair. anyone have anymore information on this property?
