  1. that's a good point. the mall "ring" road; however, is mall property. it is not a public road. general growth would have to name it themselves.
  2. i don't know if it's all about school districts. i think that proximity to the energy corridor and the west belt is an important factor.
  3. The Woodlands Aug. 23, 2007, 2:39PM Contract set for new Park & Ride in The Woodlands Sterling Ridge site could open in November By BETH KUHLES Chronicle Correspondent RESOURCES Woodlands Area Park & Ride Lots Sawdust Park & Ride
  4. the woodlands is... --8 million square feet of commercial and retail space --3+ million square feet of office space --42,000 jobs, 35,000 homes --founded in 1974 --perceived as "the woodlands" link to woodlands commercial website link to tcid fact sheet definitely not a bedroom community. to stay on topic.........i like the idea of bridgelands; however, it looks like the same cookie cutter houses they are building in many neighborhoods here in the woodlands, and in sugarland, and in kingwood, and in spring. too bad some builders aren't ready to break the mold.
  5. so, are we to speculate that shell will be (is) interested in discovery tower and/or mainplace? 1.871 million square feet of office space would occupy both LEED certified towers.
  6. there was a thread some time ago about FAA issues and building heights. it may have been before the haif crash though. i believe the information we received concluded that there were no height restrictions. maybe someone else will remember.
  7. handing out justice and requiring that the laws be obeyed costs either way you look at it. he killed an american citizen on american soil and should have to pay the consequences...........at our cost. after that, he should be deported.
  8. i second that. house of blues, lucky strike, McCormick & Schmick's and Red Cat Jazz Cafe are not establishments that will be closing at 6pm. with increasing residential and commercial activity, conventions, professional sports, concerts and tourism, the nature of activity in downtown will forever change.
  9. the paper called it an "oncoming" train too. maybe they should have said "passing" train? it's sad either way.
  10. it sounds like griffin was oncoming. he hit the train, the train didn't hit him. i nominate him for a darwin award.
  11. Studio Gaia of New York, the award-winning firm which designed several W Hotels and the Tao restaurant in the Venetian Hotel in Las Vegas, has been awarded the design contract. According to McCarley the bi-level restaurant will feature a bar on the street level with the dining room overlooking The Woodlands Waterway on the second level. The Woodlands location will be different from other Churrascos because of the setting, but will "artfully blend chic minimalism with a theatrical flair" making it one of the most fashionable environments in the country, he said. although the restaurant will now be an "americas", the interior will still be phenomenal. i'm sure this is why the windows are covered. i believe it is to open this fall. the paragraph above is from an article in the woodlands villager in december of last year.
  12. Roche Bobois, Ligne Roset and Design Within Reach are all great for inspiration while on a tight budget. Definitely visit these stores for a good idea of modern design. Cantoni and Eurway are, well. I don't think they are as refined.
  13. 1. buy your inspiration piece(s) and build around it (these). i. e. your couch selection from z gallerie. 2. you can find all sorts of interesting (filler) pieces for a good price later (always keeping your inspiration pieces in mind). 3. ditto the quality couch sentiment. 4. ikea is great for small things. i wouldn't invest in heavier furnishings (couch, chairs) from there. imo good luck and congrats on the new home.
  14. i agree, it has to be a completely different animal than other "redos". i think it will reflect the needs of it's current environment (office worker, area residents) and, perhaps, create a positive change in the area. i don't recall any recent reports on the project though.
  15. is it new. new to me would mean in the last 4 years.
  16. update on spring creek greenway project. link Aug. 16, 2007, 4:21PM Montgomery County continues to develop greenway project Architectural firm will design plans for preserve area By BETH KUHLES Chronicle Correspondent Montgomery County waded further into its Spring Creek Greenway project, hiring an architectural firm to develop a master plan for the Peckinpaugh Preserve and assigning an attorney to handle condemnation cases along the corridor. Montgomery County is about halfway to its goal of acquiring 6,000 acres along the north side of the creek for the planned 12,000-acre park and trail system that will follow Spring Creek in Montgomery and Harris counties. Montgomery County got the land through donations, tax trusts or purchases. "We are seeking 6,000 acres on the Montgomery County side," said Robert Collins, special counsel for Montgomery County Precinct 3. "We have about half of that acquired or protected. Slowly, but surely, we are acquiring tracts of land. We have about 100 acres at Riley Fuzzel Road alone." The largest tract along Riley Fuzzel Road is the Peckinpaugh Preserve, a 25-acre site with a half-mile of frontage along the Spring Creek. The land was donated by Patty Hubbard Peckinpaugh and by the Houston Audubon Society. Master plan designs Montgomery County Commissioners Court awarded a contract to Hellmuth, Obata and Kassabaum to do a master plan for a portion of the Peckinpaugh site. That plan is likely to include the county's first nature center, which also would house a community center and a sheriff's department substation, Collins said.
  17. i think the precincts are too far apart. precinct 4 is based in humble and covers a very large territory. i'm not sure which precinct covers this area (1960 & i-45), but both precinct 4 and the precinct based near kuykendahl and cypresswood take calls that require extremely long drives through countless red lights, back roads and confusing neighborhoods. i'd like to see satellite offices along 1960.
  18. it's been stated before that there are hundreds (or thousands) of new homes in close proximity to greenspoint. these consumers have to drive to deerbrook, willowbrook or the woodlands. a redo of greenspoint may be a no-brainer.
  19. good luck with this question! thought i'd bump it up for ya, niche. it will be interesting to see if we have anyone with insight on this matter.
  20. i have a friend who recently moved here from ft. worth. we were discussing how nice a break from the heat would be. i explained to her how we on the gulf coast look forward to a tropical depression for cooler temperatures and rain and then keep our fingers crossed that it doesn't stay or strengthen.....or is that just me?
  21. yes, it was a big deal back then. i remember walking around the festivities with a bottle of champagne in each hand sharing with people. i would get arrested for that these days. we spent a lot of money on businesses whose bathrooms were for "customers only". el fenix, daiquiri factory........ unfortunately, it is possible that lower westheimer will suffer from a new kind of homogenization of the "american apparel" and "buffalo exchange" kind. as someone said earlier, count your blessings. interest in the area is exciting.
