  1. how many of those viewers were watching because of the growing controversy surrounding her comments? i have not watched the view since she left; however, it isn't because i'm fond of her. i watched because of the simmering conflict between her and elisabeth. when it hit the fan and the aftermath wained, i was done with it. we have yet to see if she is a hot commodity or just hot air.
  2. the movie "signs" wasn't about aliens. IMO, the following quote is what the movie is about: i like this director, m. night shyamalan (sp?). he directed "the sixth sense" and "unbreakable" and "the village". all of his movies have spiritual subtext illuminating different perceptions of reality. great fun.
  3. i've wondered why we do not have a newbie thread; however, if everyone would welcome people within their first few posts, we wouldn't need one. i can't see myself visiting a newbie thread everyday just to say hello to everyone signing on. i think haif is too large for the editor or moderators to welcome everyone. after all, isn't it the webmaster or moderators who end up with that job? everyone should simply take the opportunity to say hello when we see a newbie making their first few posts.
  4. i saw evan almighty last night. quaint, hokey, good for a couple of laughs.
  5. i doubt anadarko is working on the "sister" tower, being as they've recently laid off 3000 employees. i do not think the hotel and residential tower will come about until after the completion of waterway square, 24 waterway and adjacent restaurants.
  6. i'd try again and mention your dissatisfaction. i think they may have opened before they were ready.
  7. yes, rumors are frequently wrong. thanks for the input. now, if i said there was a rumor that a "w" hotel was going in at blvd. place, how would you respond?
  8. visited chocolata last night. the current offerings were underwhelming; however, the items available will eventually be substantial, not to mention the custom confectioner creations. we tried a mexican, ancho chocolate bar, iced chai; one person had a dark chocolate brownie with vanilla ice cream and another had birthday cake ice cream. everyone was pleased, but nothing that we tried stood out. the fondue, cakes, liqueur and drink options will most likely be the better items. will return to try different items.
  9. for wine week in the woodlands, the cordua restaurant is being called "americas" now rather than churrascos. americas wine event
  10. i've found part of the article. the entire article is no longer available at chron.com. May 24, 2007, 9:57AM Hotel business strong in Town Center area Local facilities stay booked up with mix of travel and conventions By BETH KUHLES Chronicle Correspondent The hotel business is booming in The Woodlands, and it is getting harder and harder to find a room for visitors during weekdays. From the full-service to smaller, limited-service offerings, rooms are filling up. "It's hard to find a room here, you often can't stay here," said Oak Ridge North Mayor Fred O'Connor, a member of the Town Center Improvement District board. "We had people come in and we had to put them up in Conroe." While many think of the mega-sized space in The Woodlands Waterway Marriott Hotel and Convention Center or The Woodlands Resort & Conference Center as the big winners in the community, it is actually the smaller hotels ringing Town Center that are leading the growth this year. "Clearly, The Woodlands Town Center is becoming a regional destination for corporate meetings, conventions and leisure travel," said Frank W. Robinson, president of Town Center Improvement District. "The strong corporate economy, coupled with the emergence of the destination appeal, have made The Woodlands Town Center an attraction for overnight visits. The full-service hotels meet the demands of certain segments of business and Town Center is fortunate to have upscale limited-service properties that attract leisure and business visits as well as corporate and convention groups." Between January and April, hotel taxes collected in Town Center grew 14.7 percent over the same period in 2006. The biggest increases were seen in smaller, limited-service hotels, which have been able to raise rates because of the demand. ......... Room for more Another element that may be leading to the overall success in Town Center is cooperation among the hotels. Instead of undercutting prices, the hotels are providing overflow for major conventions or groups that come to the area. At least two more hotels are in the pipeline for Town Center. Market Street is negotiating for a 70-room boutique hotel, which it hopes to announce by the end of the year, said Harold Dull, general manager of the shopping and office district. A 10-story hotel with 150 to 200 rooms was on the drawing boards by The Woodlands Development Co. near Waterway Square. it is the 10 story hotel that was rumored to be a "w".
  11. i have dreams about being back at the academy i attended. for years, the recurring dreams involved the idea that i had unfinished work. lately, in the same buildings, i return as a teacher or administrator with incompetent help. some of the same staff are present in the dreams. i awake from these dreams frustrated. i haven't had flying dreams in awhile. one of the worst dreams i can remember was about washing dishes. i cleaned and rinsed until all of the dishes were done, or so i thought. i would reach down into the murky water to pull the plug and find more dishes. i would start the cycle all over again. the dream repeated itself all night long.
  12. i love it. elvis' head in a box. sounds like a great short story or independent film. niche, could the outside force manipulating your graffiti be an american/childhood-instilled paradigm?, one that says we have to make money. being on the toilet can be about vulnerability, necessity or, money = crapping. i think the dream is interesting. it would be more interesting if i knew your personality. thanks for sharing.
  13. isn't there an exterior renovation going on now? i think the building has potential. currently, it looks dingy and dark. it needs to be brightened up. the concrete needs to be cleaned or painted and the glass panels should be replaced. additionally, it could have soft, ambient light on the exterior, illuminating the dark spaces between each level. the crown needs work as well.
  14. michael moore is aware of this irony. on oprah recently, he explained that he is taking steps to address his own health issues. i get the feeling that moore was one of those kids in the school yard who, with hands placed on hips, often shouted "i'm telling on you!". he seems to get great joy from creating negative stories. IMO, he doesn't come across as sincere.
  15. do you place any value in a dream? do you think that they are a reflection of who we are or what we are dealing with? do you feel that money controls you? are you afraid that you are wasting (flushing) your time away in the pursuit of money? or do you think it's just a freaky thing? i've had several weird dreams, some very lucid and poignant. one series of dreams i've had include dreams of buildings, mostly residences, that reoccur in subsequent dreams. these are homes i've never seen before, but they are in my subconscious. when the dream happens, i know where each room is in the house and understand that i've been there many times before. sometimes, i'm an intruder in a house i admire. other times, it's my home that i enjoy only part time. there have been mornings when i awake and i could draw much of the structure from memory. however, i soon forget the house until the next time i dream of it.
  16. i don't believe i've expressed a preference.
  17. the market street hotel and the waterway square hotel are two different developments. i had not heard the name "avia" yet, but it has been mentioned that an announcement would come about this year. did you read the article about increased hotel occupancy in the woodlands? i can't find it.
  18. i read a blog today that inferred dennis miller's move to the right was calculated to bolster his career.
  19. i enjoy jon stewart and stephen colbert too, even when i disagree with them, they're freakin' hilarious.
  20. those are interesting facts. however, any moron can get a degree. oh wait, you didn't say that rosie, in fact, completed a degree. also, "average" SAT scores and acceptance percentages are in no way indicative of rosie's intelligence or dennis miller's lack of it. Rosie O'Donnell Dennis Miller Dennis Miller Dennis Miller i don't know about you, but i'm very, very, very, very annoyed with rosie odonnell and very entertained by miller. he is a significant political humorist. rosie is a reactionary blow hard. i must specify that i would not base my political opinions ON dennis miller's comments. i just don't mind listening to him talk about politics. i shudder when i hear of george clooney or rosie odonnell backing a candidate. it's inconsequential. by the same token, i wouldn't support giuliani simply because miller is behind him either.
  21. i can't agree more. when i see a comedian/actor get on a soap box regurgitating a time magazine or new york times article, or worse a michael moore film, i cringe. i'm thinking, you're an "actor", go make a movie. if i want political commentary, i certainly won't go to alicia silverstone. i will make an exception for dennis miller, though. unless whoopi gets into it with elisabeth, the view will be as vacant as it was originally. watching elisabeth grow up and learn to stand her ground was great fun. i didn't bother to watch the show any further than "hot topics". the right/left banter was indicative of conversations i see/hear on a regular basis and to see it fleshed out on a live show was refreshing. Barbara trying to mediate was typical of old media types. the old school "balance" (don't openly offend anyone) in media is boring.
  22. good luck with your home sale katiedidit. i wish the best for your family.
  23. i have not seen cinema paradiso yet.
