  1. that explains it. i don't like rap or hip-hop. i do see why he is revered in those circles. it sounds as if he was a perfectionist as well. i can admire that.
  2. james brown's music has always been superbly annoying. i can positively say that i have never had any affection for his music. i did not know him; therefore, i cannot comment on his personality. all i remember is him yelling "YEAH!" bum pa dum dum............"YEAH"........dum pa dumm dumm.........."YEAH!"....and so on. i've never understood his relevance to anything.
  3. The City of Shenandoah Convention and Visitors Bureau gave a Red Carpet Welcome to Raising Cane's Chicken Fingers Restaurant recently. City Administrator Chip VanSteenberg, Greg Butler, and Brian Laborde of the Public Works department attended the ceremonies. Also in attendance were Raising Cane's CEO and Founder Todd Graves, General Manager Roy Arismendez, and Marketing Field Representative Jennifer Stephenson. full story i took the kid to the drive-thru recently. we thought the menu looked a little boring. the drive-thru girl must have heard us complaining before we left and gave us the finger as we drove past her window. great attitude.
  4. update on this project. link includes photo of model. Open Houses: Public gets look at Sterling layout possibilities By: TIFFANY WILLIAMS, Villager staff 12/21/2006 Sterling of The Woodlands Director of Sales Angela Ling, center, shows a model of the condominium community to Rob and Jan Chappell, right, their son Brad and daughter-in-law Elizabeth. Sterling of The Woodlands Director of Sales Angela Ling, center, shows a model of the condominium community to Rob and Jan Chappell, right, their son Brad and daughter-in-law Elizabeth. So far, it is little more than a glint in the eyes of prospective residents, but The Sterling of The Woodlands has unearthed a diamond of a concept for the over-60 set. The 133-unit retirement hub, slated for completion in the summer of 2009, allows residents to customize and purchase their condominiums, begetting a potential return on their investments. Condo prices start in the $400,000s. The six- to 10-story building is located at the southwest corner of Lake Robbins Drive and Grogan's Mill Road. Residents will pay a monthly service fee for amenities such as on-site medical care, round-the-clock security, transportation, housekeeping, dining, fitness programs and a pool. The layout of each condo is even more malleable than the precious metal the development was named after. Sterling condos can be anywhere from 1,009 square feet to 3,100 square feet and range from one to three bedrooms with various floor plans. full story
  5. so, does it save it on my pc or haif's server(s)?
  6. please explain archiving our email messages. thanks.
  7. vicman will need to respond about the school districts. my nephew, who lives with us, attends college park (we live in grogan's mill near town center). i'm not a fan of public schools; however, college park has been great for him. in comparison to the woodlands high school, i think the present culture at TWHS is superior to TWCP (the woodlands college park). college park is a new school. TWHS has 30 years of tradition and consistently receives high marks in education and athletics. i believe that college park will continue to improve and will be a true rival of the woodlands high school in years to come. if your kids are not yet in high school, college park may be just as noteworthy in a few years. there are interesting houses in every village in the woodlands. grogan's mill is convenient and has homes from 90k to over a million dollars. the eastern side of grogan's mill suffers from i-45 road noise. west of grogan's mill road has some quieter spots. the deeper you go into the woodlands the quieter it is, with the exception of homes backing up to the woodlands parkway or research forest. also, find out where the nearest fire station is. i was not aware that there was a fire station right down grogan's mill road from my house. we hear the fire trucks every time they head south on grogan's mill or hit the woodlands parkway. if you haven't already done so, get a map of the woodlands and/or use google maps when looking at houses. feel free to PM me if you have other questions. i'm a woodlands geek and love to talk about it.
  8. this issue is about as newsworthy (imo) as jon benet, oj simpson, a crime in nyc, a murder in ohio........it shouldn't be but a blip on the daily news radar. i couldn't care less what trump says about what rosie says about who is good or bad. i chuckle at rosie (when i'm flipping channels) because she feels her "view" is so relevant to everyone else. she wears her heart on her sleeve. the heart on her sleeve is a big chip on her shoulder. fortunately, for rosie, her personal honesty and openness may some day lead her to more intelligent banter. if she would only start reading well thought out, opposing points of view, she might actually become relevant. hell, i like rosie.
  9. it's amazing to me that the woodlands median home price fares well in comparisons such as these, seeing as the woodlands includes moderately priced homes, townhomes and/or condos in each village. also, the amazing growth of an area is not something i would be too thrilled about. fortunately, for the woodlands, the growth is somewhat controlled and the community (a real community) has a strong identity unlike the unbridled development of strip centers and various developments running into each other that plagues the northwest part of town. the woodlands current population according to the woodlands development company is over 80,000.
  10. there is something about these houses that gives me butterflies. it's a good feeling. perhaps i've spent so much time and effort admiring FLW and mckee/kamrath that i have a physical reaction when being inside them or looking at pictures. crazy. great information guys! you're all awesome.
  11. goose's acre is now open and churrasco's interior is under construction. churrasco's is also in 21 waterway with goose's acre.
  12. you know when you look in a light bulb and the image is burned on your retina for awhile? same thing happened here. thanks alot! WAX! for god's sake. WAX!
  13. what happened to year-round school? if we have to work all year as adults, why should kids get the false reality that they deserve weeks or months off? it makes it more difficult for them in the long run. i'm disgusted to see that gov. perry supported the school calendar change so that businesses could make more money. summer sucks and kids should be in school 12 months out of the year.
  14. Woodlands EDP considered leader in greater Houston By: TIFFANY WILLIAMS, Villager staff 12/14/2006 The South Montgomery County Woodlands Economic Development Partnership is now recognized as a leader in the Houston-area business community after receiving the Greater Houston Partnership's 2006 Economic Development Ally Award. This is the first time the GHP has given the award, which the economic development partnership's CEO Ron Bourbeau accepted during a November dinner at the J.W. Marriott Hotel in the Galleria area. During the dinner, Chevron Phillips Chemical Co LP, headquartered in The Woodlands, was also recognized as one of Houston's greatest and won the People's Choice Award for companies with more than 250 employees. The South Montgomery County Woodlands EDP is an extension of the South Montgomery County Woodlands Chamber of Commerce. Its goal is to promote the business climate and work with companies looking to locate to the community through its partnerships, staff and a 19-person board of directors. "This is the result of the hard work of numerous EDP partners and staff over the past nine years," the partnership's chairman Shelley Waters said. "Our EDP works diligently in the community to retain and gain business in South Montgomery County in order to maintain the quality of life and work that we all enjoy each day." full story
  15. Churrascos to spice up Woodlands Waterway By: CHARIS BEAL, Contributing writer 12/14/2006 A popular eatery, voted Best All-Around Restaurant in the AOL's 2005 City Guide, will be coming to 21 Waterway Avenue. The planned addition of Churrascos Restaurant to the Woodlands Town Center was recently announced by The Woodlands Development Company Commercial Vice President Dan Leverett. "We pursued Churrascos because it is a chef-driven restaurant that is widely acclaimed for its cuisine. The distinctive ambiance and cuisine offered at Churrascos will be a wonderful addition to the growing options for dining out in The Woodlands Town Center," Leverett said. Those familiar with chef-owner Michael Cordua's location in Houston will not be disappointed with The Woodlands location. .......... Studio Gaia of New York, the award-winning firm which designed several W Hotels and the Tao restaurant in the Venetian Hotel in Las Vegas, has been awarded the design contract. According to McCarley the bi-level restaurant will feature a bar on the street level with the dining room overlooking The Woodlands Waterway on the second level. The Woodlands location will be different from other Churrascos because of the setting, but will "artfully blend chic minimalism with a theatrical flair" making it one of the most fashionable environments in the country, he said. full story
  16. update TCID board receives update on Waterway Square developments By: DEBORAH ROWE, Villager staff 12/14/2006 The area around The Woodlands Waterway continues to flourish. The Town Center Improvement District Board of Directors received a presentation from Director Alex Sutton on the recent developments on Waterway Square at a recent board meeting. An Asian Garden is being constructed on the Waterway itself on islands, Sutton said. "We are installing bridges right now to connect those islands in the south side pathway," he said. "It is a contemplative area opposed to the business of the Waterway. There will be many different types of flowers, Asian inspired, but they have to be able to grow in our climate." 21 Waterway Avenue is completely built, Sutton said. "We are finishing with tenant improvements," he said. "The Irish pub Goose's Acre is just about finished. The restaurant Churrascos just signed a lease and is beginning its tenant improvements." 25 Waterway Avenue is moving along as well, Sutton said. "(221B Baker St. Pub and Grill) is doing its tenant improvements right now. I don't have anything else I can report on the rest of the space just yet, but I will pretty soon," he said. 24 Waterway Avenue, a 13-story building, is now under construction. "Again, I don't have any announcements on who is going in the building, but we are very optimistic about it," he said. The Waterway fountain is under construction right now, Sutton said, with the estimated completion date around December of next year. The board approved a service contract with Wave Media for installation of a surveillance system along the Waterway. full story
  17. one thing the woodlands could do is to include people of all races in its promotional media. you don't see alot of color on the woodlands website or brochures.
  18. this is what i was referring to springtx. there are cultural differences. i've met many transplants here from pennsylvania, new york, new england, etc. that love the setting of the woodlands partly because (i figure) of the cultural references you mention. it's amazing that people jump to the conclusion that a development which happens to be 92% caucasion is intentionally exclusionary of certain segments of society. when certain segments of society have no cultural context to desire a thing, or simply choose not to embrace a lifestyle, it is not required (or morally necessary) that the development give incentives to minorities or bus people to its schools simply to provide diversity. this is starting to sound like another thread.
  19. ummm, yeah. try reading "the woodlands: the inside story of creating a better hometown" by roger galatas with jim barlow, published by the urban land institute. i'm lmao of at "....................bypassing brown vs the board of education". there is a reason the woodlands is considered a utopian experiment. george mitchell was influenced by utopian idealists in the 60's. one of his greatest concerns was that minorities have not embraced the woodlands. this is a cultural issue, not an evil, anti-diversity machination by the woodlands' founders or its residents, as gank implies.
  20. this is a part of what is successful about the woodlands, people can get away from certain undesirable aspects of living in the city, yet have many of the same amenities (symphony, art, restaurants, shopping, outdoor activities). the woodlands appeals to many active, outdoor/nature loving people of all ages. as much as i would love to come in to houston for theatre events and holiday activites, there is more than i can fit in my calendar right here in the woodlands (not always on the same scale, but it does the trick most of the time). and, having assets including 100 parks and 150 miles of hike/bike pathways, jazz concerts, concerts in the park, movies in the park, dive-in movies at area pools, free houston symphony concerts, festivals and so on, all underneath a six story or higher pine forest; add the shopping, restaurants, concerts at the pavilion, mega church facilities with amazing productions and activites..............add all this up and it doesn't really suck.
  21. ditto, mr. barnes comment; however, mr. mitchell has said recently that he still favors annexation. he has not publicly commented on the most recent agreement that i'm aware of.
