  1. i thought the neptune society dumped your body at sea. it seems like i remember demi moore's character, jules, in st. elmo's fire mention the neptune society. jules had to bury her evil step monster.
  2. yes, that would be the authors. it happens to be on my amazon wishlist. i look forward to reading it.
  3. i think i know you better after that statement, niche. there are some buildings and design elements that draw me or make me feel..........well intensely. i attended one of the new home shows in the woodlands several years ago. sterling ridge was new and indian springs was being expanded. there is one home i entered and at once felt at home. all the other homes seemed redundant. in this particular home, i had to linger. i could draw the floor plan from memory. i was in this house once, yet i remember it like i had lived there. there are very few spaces i connect with on that level. i always wanted to be a builder. i now live vicariously through others.
  4. i like the long thin bricks used on some ranch style homes in the 50's or 60's (i think). i remember a tan or putty colored brick about 1 1/2" or 2" thick and 6" or so long. the bricks are not perfectly rectangle. they have a raised edge in the middle with a natural/rough finish. one home i remember had the grout recessed. several years ago there was a house with this kind of brick that was to be demolished (in conroe). i explained to the owner that there may be a market for reclaimed brick. i gave the owner phone numbers of people who might be interested. unfortunately, the owner wanted to sell the brick. the offers he received wanted to charge him to remove the brick. he didn't want to pay to have it removed. ultimately, they demolished the house and hauled it to a dump. i thought the brick was interesting enough to be used as accent walls in a home or garden. i've wondered since, if the walls could have been removed in sections, intact.
  5. just thought i'd poke my head in this thread and see if you guys are still up to it...............yup, still goin' round and round like a dog chasin' its own tail. i'm just giving you guys a hard time. the discussion in this thread has been very informative and entertaining. btw, i will be grabbing anti-rail signs (without trespassing) every chance i get. are you referring to Generations: The History of America's Future, 1584 to 2069?
  6. i've lived in houston all of my life, with the exception of college. i grow more fond of it each year. if someone thinks houston is a frustrating "hellhole", then they should definitely move. i can't imagine how such an unhappy person would behave behind the wheel or in line at the grocery store.
  7. i'm impressed that they've discussed each crosswalk in the museum area and any hindrance to pedestrian flow.
  8. just for the record.......i'm not complaining, just tired.
  9. i saw that as well. i realized that someone must have drowned. i haven't seen it on the news yet.
  10. is collage a big thing in austin? i find it profoundly weird that the art of collage would be a point of contention. austin is a great place to visit. i guess if you're a kid who likes collage, you may prefer to live around others with like talents. i'm sure that houston has a wonderful collage community. i'm sorry, i couldn't help myself. houston grows on you. it takes a couple years and it's worth it. houston doesn't give herself easily, but once you know her, she's a forever friend. on the other hand, austin, like fair weather friends, lacks substance. IMO.
  11. if you must know (self-serving rant to follow): we are exhausted, tired and sore. our trainer busted our ass friday morning and we are still recovering. our first week of school required our child to have a sports physical which resulted in an echocardiogram. the echocardiogram required leg work and phone calls in order for insurance to pay. school supplies and a mound of papers had to be signed by the second day of school. we expedited echocardiogram's results to coaches and trainer in order for our child to attend practice. we mowed, weeded and edged two yards in the heat. we payed bills and cleaned house. we cooked meals and did laundry. we slept an average of 6 hours a night this week. we spent more than four hours in the car on friday alone running errands and hauling kids around. and the number one reason "we" are home tonight, not out drinking champagne and telling fabulous stories is because.................our child is out with friends for the night!!!!!!!! quiet house. peace. rest. at least for a few more hours. yippie. wow, that was kinda therapeutic. thanks.
  12. i guess no one went. if they did, you'd think they'd be excited about it and share.
  13. note to self: go by toy store and purchase rubber snakes before movie today. >
  14. i read about this project years ago and came across the website this morning. i haven't heard or read anything about it since '03. the completion date for phase I is this december. phase II is said to begin in '07. link to website
  15. is this project on schedule? Museum District Art Walk Project Museum of Fine Arts, Houston Museum of Fine Arts, Houston The Museum District Walk project is another element of the Main Street Corridor Revitalization Project, intended to provide enhanced pedestrian and transit oriented improvements along the 7.5-mile stretch of Main Street between Downtown and Loop 610 South. The purpose of the Museum District Walk Project is to enhance the pedestrian experience within Houston's Museum District and to improve pedestrian links between museums, area attractions and transit stops. The Museum District is rich in educational and tourist resources and is enjoyed by more than six million Houstonians and visitors each year. The District includes ten museums and is adjacent to other attractions and venues, such as Hermann Park, Miller Outdoor Theater, Park Plaza Hospital and Rice University. The new light rail line, that bisects the district, will likely increase the number of visitors to the area via transit and will, in turn, increase pedestrian activity within the neighborhood. museum walk website
  16. i'd rather be in the woodlands than on the west side of houston. west side crime thread
  17. it seems that some of today's "civil rights" leaders are only concerned with there own civil rights. they seem to have no problem skirting the civil rights of others as long as they themselves are empowered. guys like andrew young continue to fuel racial tension. i'm very disappointed in his remarks. i'm fearful that he voices the sentiments of many african american leaders and communities today. (notice i said "many", not the majority.) walmart would do well to hire someone "by the content of their character."
  18. great post redscare. i cannot understand why we do not require language studies at the elementary school level. it seems it would be easier to teach language then. at the high school level, many students are uninterested. ...........back to the issue at hand. The Montgomery County Fire Marshal's Office contacted the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms after a June 22 incident in which a pipe bomb was detonated beneath a vehicle in the 25000 block of Timber Lakes Drive. full story someone in law enforcement is doing their job. there's more. Don't forget the family when striving for success By: ANDY WALTERS, Oak Ridge North police chief 08/17/2006 It was a two story house, in a nice neighborhood, at the end of the street. The couple bought the house thinking that it would be a great place to raise their kids and have a good life. They had always dreamed of a house like this one. The kids were little, and although they didn't like the idea of leaving their old school and friends, they were excited about the house. The kids would each have their own rooms upstairs. Between the rooms was a large game room where maybe one day they could put a pool table. They moved in and life was good. The children all went to school and made new friends, but for some reason, they never brought their friends to the house. Mom and Dad got really busy with work. Along with the nice two story house, came a monthly mortgage and the cost of utilities and the landscaping and the amenities it took to live in such a nice house. full story you gotta love this guy.
  19. is dirty nell's by the same guys? or is it a transplanted irish pub?
