My 1993 Camry feels just a wonderful today as it did the day I drove it off the lot. It has been extremely reliable and good to me, so why would I want anything else? Besides, the only person I want to impress is me, and I am more that impressed with the sweet ride I have now. There were times I would liked to have had a pickup, but I had a trailer hitch added, and my trailer hauls anything I need. Thanks for the offer for a new car, but I

When the carhop came to serve you, they would put a laminated card on your windshield. On the side facing out was your number, and the menu was printed on the inside so you could read it. These cards became prized collector -
The only one I can remember going to was the one on Long Point at Antoine, but I believe there were a number of them around town.

Vertigo, are you sure the photo of the carhop with the cowgirl hat is from Houston? The title of the photo says "sandiegohistory". I don't recognize the uniform or the hat as being either Pig Stand or Prince's. -

Great menu, SpaceAge! I swear someone posted a photo or post card of the restaurant with the two Indians on the roof. Maybe it was Subdude, but I haven't seen him posting recently. Tbird, are you out there, Buddy? -

The North Side rules. Rule#1 - If you leave the North Side, don't stray into the Heights, or else they might beat you up. Rule#2 - Never forget Rule#1. -

IHB2, it's no wonder you got a good headknocking at the Prince's on Shepherd. If you'da gone there and called us Northsiders, you'da got more than a headknocking! We were Reagan Rats from the Heights. The "Northside" was Sam Houston Country around Airline, Crosstimbers, Tidwell streets. We hated Northsiders just as much as we did those damned Lamar Teasips and Bellaire Bozos! -

I have searched the past posts, but I can't find where anyone posted a picture of the Indians atop the Bill Williams restaurant on Main Street. If someone has one, would they please post it? I don't want to get too excited, but I think I may have found one of the Indians while on an outing this weekend. He was kneeling on one knee, and he had his hand in a position where he would have been holding a stick (over the fire?), and a hole in the extended hand that would have held a pole or large stick. Does this guy look familiar? He is about 6-7 -

I was just about to post the same thought. Who cares how many total acres of parks we have? Maybe the relatively few who actually use these areas. But I would prefer we broke up the large parks into many smaller ones. When I was a kid, a vacant lot or easement was sufficient size for a game of baseball or football, or even someone -
Subdude, I'm going back some 30 or 40 years, and possibly more, but if I recall, it would have been on the south side of old 90 between Pitts and FM359. I seem to recall it was at or just before a curve in the road right before you crossed the (very scary and dangerous) Brazos River bridge at Richmond. Looking at an old Key Map, the above location seems right. My granddad knew Williams pretty well, and we went to that location many times, usually on the way down to Granddaddy

Sam Houston Airport On South Main St.
Heights2Bastrop replied to MaxConcrete's topic in Historic Houston
B-29? How about the B-36?The problem with the B-36 was not so much its runway length, but its weight. Very few airports, military or civilian, could handle the 36's weight. Sheppard Air Force Base in Wichita Falls was one of the few that met the requirements, and that is why it was chosen as a B-36 base. -
This may not be a big deal to many of you, but it is huge to me. The Hwy 71 overpass at 304 was opened last Saturday. Since I live off 304, this is a great benefit for me. It will also eliminate a big slowdown for those traveling from Houston to Austin. Work should begin soon on the overpass at 969, which is just a few hundred yards west of 304. So that will slow through traffic again for a while. Not sure what plans for the Hwy 20 intersection. 20 is not that well-traveled, but it is a very dangerous intersection.

I sure hope the Democrats don't live in glass houses. How quickly they seem to have forgotten about Slick lying to a Grand Jury and getting away with it. And, please save me the rhetoric about what he lied about. If you lie to the Grand Jury about committing a triple murder, or you lie to the Grand Jury about jaywalking, it is still lying to the Grand Jury. Clinton lied. He admitted he lied. He got away with it. The Dems

J Edgar Hoover was the FBI, and Hoover kept files on everybody so he could use the information to get whatever he wanted. Why wouldn't he keep files on Hughes? Somebody should have investigated J Edgar and his wife, Clyde Tolson.- 79 replies
