When the carhop came to serve you, they would put a laminated card on your windshield. On the side facing out was your number, and the menu was printed on the inside so you could read it. These cards became prized collector

The only one I can remember going to was the one on Long Point at Antoine, but I believe there were a number of them around town.

Vertigo, are you sure the photo of the carhop with the cowgirl hat is from Houston? The title of the photo says "sandiegohistory". I don't recognize the uniform or the hat as being either Pig Stand or Prince's.

IHB2, it's no wonder you got a good headknocking at the Prince's on Shepherd. If you'da gone there and called us Northsiders, you'da got more than a headknocking! We were Reagan Rats from the Heights. The "Northside" was Sam Houston Country around Airline, Crosstimbers, Tidwell streets. I have searched the past posts, but I can't find where anyone posted a picture of the Indians atop the Bill Williams restaurant on Main Street. If someone has one, would they please post it? I don't want to get too excited, but I think I may have found one of the Indians while on an outing this weekend. He was kneeling on one knee, and he had his hand in a position where he would have been holding a stick (over the fire?), and a hole in the extended hand that would have held a pole or large stick. I seem to recall it was at or just before a curve in the road right before you crossed the (very scary and dangerous) Brazos River bridge at Richmond. B-29? How about the B-36?The problem with the B-36 was not so much its runway length, but its weight. Very few airports, military or civilian, could handle the 36's weight. Sheppard Air Force Base in Wichita Falls was one of the few that met the requirements, and that is why it was chosen as a B-36 base.

But, very expensive. OK, they may have a better selection, like carrying Antaritican paprika, or exotics like that. But Flores does have a huge selection. If you like Penzey's, just give Flores a try. You won't be disappointed.

This may not be a big deal to many of you, but it is huge to me. The Hwy 71 overpass at 304 was opened last Saturday. Since I live off 304, this is a great benefit for me. It will also eliminate a big slowdown for those traveling from Houston to Austin. Work should begin soon on the overpass at 969, which is just a few hundred yards west of 304. So that will slow through traffic again for a while. Not sure what plans for the Hwy 20 intersection. 20 is not that well-traveled, but it is a very dangerous intersection.
