  1. OK, so who is Norman Baxter? His name is very familiar. When I worked for Gulf Oil in the reproduction department, I got a poster-size copy of a drawing of downtown similar to the style of the old phone book drawings. Although the styles were strikingly similar, I do remember that my drawing was done by a different artist.
  2. I wouldn't be surprised to see him show up on AI.
  3. That's just what I said when the story broke - that if it was horsemeat, it was the best horsemeat I ever had. Their green chili stew was my favorite item there. I now make my own, and it is close to Pancho's, and I think even better. Mine is more spicier!
  4. That's just not true. There were stories about them serving horsemeat, an investigation was done, and Pancho's was totally exonerated. They even had a copy of the health report posted in the restaurants stating that. They weren't "closed down for months", either. It's comments like this that perpetuate the myth about Pancho's.
  5. I remember the very first one. It was a normal drawing of downtown, and somewhere in the drawing was a mother cat and her kittens crossing the street. You really had to look hard to find them. The next year, the cat and kittens were there in a new drawing, and there were a couple of other
  6. Don't recall the animals, other than the ones like me that hung out at Clyde's Eatery just across the way from BEP. They were known for a great prime rib, and had a very neat bar crowd. It is now a Chinese buffet.Don't know if I or anyone mentioned Vliiage Inn Pizza on Westheimer near Chimney Rock. Dean Scott used to play there in the early 70s.
  7. Back in the 50s, there was an icehouse called Birdie
  8. In the 50s and early 60s, we used to go to Georgia every other year and went on Old 90 most of the way. As soon as we crossed the Sabine, my sister and I would start looking for and counting the white crosses along the road. That was one of the most dangerous highways in America back then.
  9. Many people will go to a restaurant for the first time and order something they don
  10. Not what you asked for, but I thought you may find this interesting.
  11. Did anyone watch this show last Monday? When I heard that it was done by Nick Park of Wallace and Gromit and Chicken Run fame, I decided it was worth a look-see. I tell you, I haven't laughed so hard in a long, long time! In fact, I would laugh so hard at one part that I would miss the start of the next one. I'm gonna tape it this time so as to not miss anything, and to enjoy it again. It is on CBS tonight at 7pm local.
  12. Subdude, you can get forms online for a will, living will, power of attorney, etc. Check this out
  13. Not sure where I heard this. I have posted this before, but got no confirmation. My understanding is that at least one of the trains running at Hermann came from Playland Park when it closed down.
  14. Paris has been liberated! LOS ANGELES, California (CNN) -- Paris Hilton was let out from jail Thursday morning, just days after she began serving her 45-day sentence for violating probation, a spokesman for the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said at a press conference. Hilton, who has been fitted with an electronic monitoring device, will serve the rest of her sentence from home, said Steve Whitmore of the sheriff's department. She will now be under the supervision of the L.A. County Probation Department, Whitmore added. She will be confined to her home for 40 days, the remainder of her 45-day sentence. Whitmore said the decision to have Hilton serve out her sentence at home was for medical reasons. Hilton had been serving at the Century Regional Detention Facility in Lynwood, California. She gets credit for five days served, having entered the facility late Sunday night and left Thursday morning, Whitmore said. Hilton checked into the facility to begin serving a sentence for violating probation in an alcohol-related reckless driving case. The sentence, originally 45 days, was reduced to 23 for various reasons, including good behavior. Whitmore said with the reassignment to home confinement, the sentence is back to its full 45 days.
  15. I thought that, too - not that I have ever been there before or anything.
  16. I thought he was referring to Sunset Boulevard and Norma Desmond. Wasn
  17. The snake is a Texas Rat Snake, one of the most beneficial animals in the State. I would never, ever kill a snake unless my life was in danger.
