Damn! I can't believe it's been nearly 40 years since I was up there. It was September of '67, my first day of work at Gulf.

I rarely go into Austin on 290 since I live in Bastrop. However, I have had occasion to do so, and every time I go that way, there seems to be another intersection that has a stoplight.
There are a number of lights going in Hwy 71 as well, but the highway has been opened to eliminate many of them.
The area between Austin and Bastrop is in the beginning stages of what I believe will be a boom. The new Lost Pines Hyatt at Pope Bend Rd has been a boost to the area. The tollway bypassing I-35 will connect to 71 from Manor soon, and that should spur even more growth.
I would suggest you check into Bastrop, or the area just west of there for quality of living as well as an investment opportunity. I totally love it here.

El-gin Street in Houston is named for a guy named El-ghen. El-ghen is the pronunciation of the town east of Austin. Don't know if the town and the street are named for the same guy, though.Oh yeah and it's El-gin (like the kind you drink). -
If you are going to have the work done, or for any remodeling work needed, I would suggest going through NARI to find reputable people.

Those towers may be eyesores, but they sure were fun to climb as a kid. The last one I climed was when I was a kid of 32.

A "threatening note" was found in a bathroom of the Austin school, and an evacuation was ordered. I am sure this is a hoax - at least I am hoping so.

MrFootball, right on! I was just about to post the same article.
Whitlock was on CNN this morning along with "Reverend" Al. Maybe it was my imagination, but I thought Soledad O'Brien did her best to almost discredit Whitlock while placating Sharpton. The interview was biased, for sure, even if mildly so.

That's a good one, DJV!I don't get it. I think if there were a Nappy Olympics, Imus would win the gold medal hands down.Possible origin?
Looking back on when I
Was a little nappy headed boy
Then my only worry
Was for Christmas what would be my toy
Even though we sometimes

Wow! I take that as a very high compliment, H-TM. Thank you, Sir.

Interesting and insightful comments by Mr. Critico. I would like to respond:
From: Frank Critico
Re: A few things...
--that people say "this is what Imus does" and think that excuses it, does not excuse it. Some of what he does is funny, some of what he does is offensive and funny and some of what he does is not funny, but offensive and hurtful. "Nappy headed ho's" falls into the latter category.
This is also just a very small part of what he does.
--that Rev. Al Sharpton has in the past been wrong and arguably has played the race card many times does not mean he is wrong this time or that he is playing the race card this time. And the Brawley case is irrelevant here. Two wrongs do not make a right.

Lee Otis Johnson was purported to be behind the riots at TSU. However, he was conveniently absent when the rioting began. The cops claimed he was responsible, but had no concrete proof.
For that incident, and for other illegal activities he was suspected of, Johnson became famous for the 30-year sentence he received for selling a single joint to an undercover cop.

This story just oozes with hypocrisy. I was never an Imus fan before, but I am now.

The way I see it, if I vote for one or the other, and that person got the most votes, then I would have contributed to having one or the other declared "the winner". I just can't handle that responsiblity.
Say, how 'bout we keep the illegals and deport O'Reiley and Rivera?

I see where the ever indignant, self-appointed agitator, Al Sharpton, is leading many of the protests against Imus
