So how's 'The War' REALLY Going ... I mean, really?
Heights2Bastrop replied to houstonmacbro's topic in Way Off Topic
It could be because of the "State of the Union Address" tonight. I heard today that some factions don't necessarily want to make one party or the other look bad. Rather they want to expand the rift between the two parties. I thought that was an interesting concept. -

I'm sure there were a number of watermelon stands around Houston. The one near us was on North Shepherd and, I believe, 26th. There was a small produce market on one corner, and the watermelon stand was on the other. You could buy the melon whole, or by the slice. If you bought it whole, they would "plug" the melon by making three deep cuts, then removing the plug so the buyer could see if it was ripe or not. When the customer was satisfied, the plug was simply reinserted.

Since posting my reply, I got to thinking about the Newgulf area. I can almost remember the bends in the highway, and there was one in particular that, as soon as you passed it, the two stacks came into view. I guess I even made a game of trying to spot them as soon as I could. I also recall that, depending upon the prevailing winds, sometimes I would smell the sulfur before I spotted the stacks. Rarely did we pass the place that the odor of sulfur wasn

We "escaped" IF about a year and a half ago. Actually, it was mostly an escape from Houston, but Inwood lost it's desirability. What has been said is very correct in that there are some great deals to be had there. However, there was no positive indication that resale value would increase anywhere near other areas. Much of out time revolved around the CC. When I was injured a few years back, I could no longer play golf, so my reason for being a member suddenly ended. Besides, things really went downhill after Mr. Smith died. Stacy (his daughter) tried a number of things to keep it going, but too many things were wrong with it. My house was in Timbergrove, but I stayed in IF with my GF. When I quit the club, I lost all interest in the area, sold my house and bought a home in Bastrop. GF sold her house there, and now has a home in Cedar Creek. GF still keeps in touch with people formerly with the club, but, not only have they quit, others they keep in touch with quit as well, so we have no more inside sources. Another problem is all the flooding in IF. Measures have been taken to alleviate that, but some areas still flood. Also, many houses have been bought out and razed by ???

But, you have to keep in mind that much of what bones were missing on one side of Lucy, scientists were able to recreate from the corresponding bone on the other side that was recovered. All they had to do was mirror the bone. When you put all the pieces in place, most of the skeleton could be seen.

Lucy is the nearly complete, as well as the most complete fossilized, skeletal remains of an Australopithecine discovered by Don Johansen in 1974. The Houston Museum of Natural Science was very fortunate to have arranged for an exhibit of Lucy that was to occur in 2006. But, I can't find anything on it. Did she come and go? Had the visit been delayed? Canceled?

Hey, with Naggin -
I used to word at Gulf Oil, and I always loved the elevators there. The bank lobby was wonderful, too. I also loved the elevators at the Esperson Building. Not sure which one, but the entrance was on Main Street.
