  1. No, I said I was a tass - a very smar one!
  2. Kimberley, you really know how to hurt a fellow. Calling something from the 50s
  3. I found it! It was a Bantam Roadster.
  4. The photo was large, possiby 20X16, and clear enough to see details. There was a Texaco and a Sinclair station side by side, and both had a gas delivery truck in front. On the door of one of the trucks was "Savannah", so that's how I determined the location. The Texaco station had the names "Shuman & Wise" across the front of the building. There was an attendant in front of the pump, and the little car in front of him. It was a great photo, and I would have paid the $12 if I wasn't such a cheapskate! So, that's all I have to go on.
  5. When I hear people mispronounce words, I get so mad I go nucular!
  6. I am hoping someone can help me identify a car I saw an old photo; possibly someone (ahem) older than myself, which would mean they would predate dirt. The car was in front of a Savannah gas station. Judging from the car (and history), I would guess the year was the mid 30s. The type was what I would call a sub-compact roadster. The wheelbase appeared to be around 6 feet, and the height no more than 4 feet. When I saw the car, I immediately thought of the toon car driven in the movie
  7. Well, Tbird, you are the most unique guy I know!
  8. Its hard sometimes to figure out when to use an apostrophe.
  9. I only went there once, and that was to see Doug Kershaw. He was so strung out on coke that his eyes reminded me of Marty Feldman. He would start every song normal enough, but would always end up in some wild adlibbing that was actually painful to listen to. The highlight of the night was when he got into it with one of the guitarists who he booted off the stage. Kershaw was one of my idols growing up, but that ended that night.
  10. Nah, just your common, everyday smartass.
  11. Very few grammatical errors get pass me.
  12. What an idiot! I'd a called that dude out on it, T-Bird!There is one faux pas that I don't mind, and that is when comparing two or more items, places, etc. In fact, there is an ongoing post about "What are the big differences between Dallas, Atlanta, and Houston?". When comparing two things, you say the difference "between" the two. When there are three or more things, you would say the difference(s) "among" the group. However, it sounds awkward to me to use "among".
  13. I don't trust any of those candidates, so I am going to vote for Tom DeLay as a write-in!
  14. Alpha, I thought I was the only one who remembered that place! Like you, I remember very little about it as I was very young. I went there with a birthday group with a kid from school, so I had to have been at least 5 (1953). All I really remember about the place was that there was a fire truck that ran around the fenced park, and kids were riding on the top of it. It was a huge fire truck, but I was seeing through a small kid's eyes. However, I didn't get to ride it for some reason.I remember the place being way out Hwy 90 (I-10), and would guess it was between Bingle and, at the farthest, Gessner.
  15. I hope they realize how prone that facility is to flooding. It sits right on Cypress creek. I have seen the entire entire parking lot flooded on a number of occasions, and the water took days to recede at times.
  16. There used to be a watermelon stand on Shepherd around 26th or 27th. I'm not sure, but the old tin building may still be there. If not, it hasn't been gone long. There was a fruit stand just across the street from it, also a tin building, but it has been gone for quite some time. Back in the 50s, they used to plug the watermelon before you bought it so you could see what you were buying. The guy would jab his knife down three times and out would come this long, this wedge about 2
  17. Getting pricked by the pin added to the realism of the snake. You held it by the tail, and the way you moved the tail dictated the way the body of the snake moved. If you dipped your hand quickly, the snake would just as quickly straighten out and "strike" at the other person. They were really neat, but I was never allowed to have one. My parents really depraved me of a lot of fun stuff.
  18. I loved the little curio shop in the front of the restaurant, especially the wooden, segmented snakes with a pin for a tongue.
  19. And once it even took a jury to determine Lay and Lie.
  20. Do you think it is rated so highly because it has had such great Congressional representation?
  21. I am too much of a cheapskate to pay attention.
  22. I think ol' Ned got a break with "1941". When I hear his name, I can't help but see him sitting on that AA gun aiming it through the house. That was a classic bit of comedy.
