  1. On Borrowed Time (1939) An old man and his grandson trap Mr. Brink (death personified) in an apple tree. My all-time favorite movie. Run Silent, Run Deep
  2. Given its history, why not call the Houston light rail Transit system "T-Wrecks"?
  3. I believe it is easier to find an address on Bingle/Voss/Hillcroft than one on South Gessner/Gessner/North Gessner, especially when Key Map is so unclear which is which.
  4. Art Grindle - "I want to sell you a car!" Hey, you didn't say it had to be current.
  5. dp2, I hadn't really noticed it before, but I swear those letters weren't that large when I did that originally.
  6. One of my favorite areas is Memorial Bend with opera names like Traviata, Butterfly, Tosca, Figaro and Boheme.
  7. On second thought, I nominate Bastrop as the worst place to navigate! There is an area in Bastrop on the south side of Hyw 71 called Tahitian Village. Most of the subdivision is built on land full of washouts and ravines making many of the roads seem like being on a roller coaster. In fact, the main entrance, Tahitian Drive, can be downright frightening to some with its severe ups and downs. The streets are laid out to conform to the landscape making the map of the area to resemble a bowl of spaghetti. The
  8. This would be a good job for those worthless, good-for-nothing METRO bus cops to do!
  9. I had a very similar experience at Herman Park Zoo. I was 4 at the time, and I was there with my mom who was chaperoning my sister
  10. I have mentioned this a couple of times, but I have never had it verified. I believe at least one of the trains at Herman Park came from Playland Park. BTW, did anyone know the Herman Park was named for George Herman, and that he pronounced his last name as "Harmon"? That's like the street "Elgin" was named after a man who pronounced his name with a soft "g" as in "again" - Elgin, as the way the town east of Austin is pronounced.
  11. Sorry about hijacking your post, Train Mover. Back to your OP, whatever happens to the property there, I hope they keep the building intact and not raze it for a strip center. I just love that old building.
  12. I was about 4 because it was before I started school. That was in the early 50s.
  13. Although I rarely went in there, that used to be a Weingarten's back in the 50s. I also remember that it had a basement with a stairway right in the middle of the store. Also, there was usually a tamale vendor in the parking lot in the afternoons. That's the way Berryhill got started.
  14. I'd rather have a Flying Saucer Pie! (One of the very few things I miss about Houston)
  15. In think Rumsfeld is doing a great job with military operations in Iraq. I like the way he has transformed our forces to do the most using the fewest. No longer is it
  16. My point was that there is a proclivity for many Liberals to, not just criticize, but actually attack those who don
  17. Geeze, what was I thinking. Expecting a Leftist to comprehend the meaning of
  18. I think illegal aliens feel as if they won the battle yesterday. That may or may not be. However, yesterday, they just may have lost the war.
  19. Yankee, if you have a case of the redass over WalMart, I suggest you take it up with them. I'm not really interested in your rants about the company.
  20. There is a Target planned for Bastrop, but construction has yet to start. WalMart may indeed have replaced Mom and Pop establishments. But I don
  21. Does anyone hear the faint, or not-so-faint echoes of Isoroku Yamamoto
