  1. Bellaire Roundhouse has the best train selection I have seen in Houston. They have HO ans N brass steamers that go for well over $1,000. It has been quite a few years since I was last there, so I couldn't say where they are now. Around mid October, go into any good train shop and get a copy of the "layout tour". They try to group them by area on various weekends. Gil Freitag's is usually on Thanksgiving weekend. His is a "must see". There is another in Pearland or Deer Park that has the most wonderful bridges, all scratch built, and all a part of a large, complex helix. I'll try to remember his name.
  2. Hey, forget 1st Saturday! Sunday is the Heights Festival! It is one of my favorite festivals of the year. It's very family oriented, but singles would find it interesting as well. If you've never been, treat yourself on Sunday. You won't be disappointed!
  3. How about Bellaire Roundhouse? Is it still in business? There is/was a train shop on the South Loop at South Main. There's Larry's on 1960 off I-45. How about Trains and Planes on Westheimer and Gessner? I found others listed, but the above are the ones I am familiar with. Who runs G&G now? I assume it is one of the Freitags. Gil has a marvelous layout. I haven't seen his brothers'. Gus is either his brother or father, not sure which. Do y'all ever go out on the November layout tour?

  7. When I first read the initial post, my thoughts were that the poster might have been a bit prejudicial with his words. After reading replies to his post, I had to wonder if it wasn
  8. I'm surprised Birkenstock didn't go bust when Austin did.
  9. Austin is not the Anything of Anywhere. Austin is in it's own little world. Let's just keep them there!
  10. People do forget, maybe conveniently so, that Nature can be cyclical. The past Ice Ages were cyclical, and if we are still coming out of the last one, wouldn
  11. Well, I did kinda sorta say that to her as if I WAS somebody.
  12. I was on their show in the 5th grade. A group of us from Love Elementary square danced at Woodland Park, and our group danced on the show which was taped at the Prudential Building on Holcomb. I was at a restaurant in Bastrop not long ago, and the owner was connected to many musicians. One of the posters in the restaurant was of Edgar Winter. I told the woman that I got my show biz start at the same place as did Edgar. She looked hard at me, and finally asked,
  13. God and Nature are synonymous. Hurricanes are the work of Nature, therefore the work of god. Nature/god created the hurricane, and Man had better get the hell out of the way or pay the consequences. It
  14. Our legacy to the world is that we got it right. Granted, we learned a lot from the mistakes made in LA, and granted, we made some mistakes of our own. But we got it right!
  15. Hurricanes and other natural disasters are god
  16. If you have evacuated, and if you want to know if your power is on or not, just call your house. If the answering machine picks up, then you have power.
  17. I have been looking at Channel 11's web site at the traffic cams, and Houston freeways are all but deserted. I guess if you are going to evacuate, waiting til the last minute is the right thing to do.
  18. I thought the word of the day was "gridlock".
  19. I have quite a few black and white photos of Carla, but they are at my mom's in Houston. They were taken around Bay City and Sargent as well as San Leon.
  20. Would the last one out of Houston please turn out the lights?
  21. Rita is now a cat 4 storm with MSW at 150mph. Pressure is up to 915mb. This is still a dangerous storm, but lets hope it continues to weaken and move further to the east.
  22. The looting in Houston ended when Bill White took office.
