  1. Yes, I do know there is no such thing as a category 6 storm. I meant that as a joke. I was merely pointing out the intensity of the hurricane, and that is not the least bit humorous. As it looks now, the storm may come ashore at Freeport after taking a turn last night. It may well drop to a cat 4 by then, but it is still a monster.
  2. As of 10pm, max sustained winds are 175mph with gusts up to 213mph. Is there such thing as a category 6 storm???
  3. I just realized the consequence of going through this storm in Bastrop. It is almost too painful to think about, but we won
  4. Bastrop Not evacuating. We have folks who will take us in, but not the cats, so we are staying put.
  5. So as not to confuse the City with Whitney Houston.
  6. The eye of the storm is on a track that would bring it close to Bastrop, but we would get relatively little rain. A report yesterday said Houston stands to get 8+ inches of rain. That
  7. If my hometown was on the Mississippi and close to the Gulf and was 15' below sea level, it wouldn't be my hometown for very long.
  8. Expect the unexpected! If those old houses have held up this long, I expect they will hold up to just about anything. I wouldn't sweat the flooding part, either. This storm may drop a lot of rain, but it should move through quickly. Allison did so much damage because it hung around for over a week before leaving.
  9. I don't know how they can make that place habitable again. I think I would rather take my chances living at Love Canal than in that disease-ridden quagmire.
  10. Last week I had 4 tickets to the Texans game, and stupidly left them lying on the seat of the car while I ran in Home Depot. While I was in there, someone must have broken into the car, because there were 8 tickets on the seat when I got back.
  11. If you look for the negatives in Life, you will surely find them.
  12. Not sure what that building is, but I would guess it is near the Pierce Elevated, possibly near St. Joseph.
  13. The only street they decorated downtown was Main Street. The ones shown in the above photos were the "new" decorations, and the last to be used. The previous ones were green garlands. I think they were lighted, and I think there was a smaller star in the center, but I'm not for sure. They also used to have street decorations like that along W 19th in "downtown" Heights.
  14. I remember an amusement park from the past called "Astroworld". Anyone remember it?
  15. Although I knew about the Four Palms, I never went there. However, I did go to Vagabond many a time. It was a popular club in the middle of a motel on I-45 north of Crosstimbers. If you didn't get lucky at the Vagabond, it was because you didn't want to.The women I encountered there were, shall we say, "very friendly". But I never met one who I thought was a professional. However, I am pretty sure there were businesswomen there at the club.
  16. That story was related in a segment from "Houston Remember When".
  17. One of my favorite memories of New Orleans was seeing the old submarine on display in Jackson Square. I never knew anything about the sub until recently when PBS did a segment on it on History Detectives. The sub was built during the Civil War and sank in Lake Pontchartrain during trials. I think it was recovered around the turn of the century (1900), but I don
  18. If I am not mistaken, Julius LaRosa sang the National Anthem at the opening Dome game
  19. I saw my very first pro football game at Jeppesen in 1958. I got to see Bobby Lane play in his last season.
  20. The building at the top center is Christie's Seafood.
  21. I like O'Riley. He doesn't play favorites. He blames everybody! He's not afraid to ask tough questions no matter who the guest is.
