  1. Oh, this is not good news. Not good a'tall! I was looking forward to this development being built. It would have been quite convenient for me since this intersection is on the way to downtown Bastrop from my place. I am 6.5 miles south of there not far off of 304. I hope this doesn
  2. That reminds me of an old Aggie joke about why Aggies have pointed chins and flat foreheads. When I read about your car, I was stroking my chin wondering if I should know the answer. Naturally, the forehead came in for a good slap when the obvious answer struck me.
  3. I did a search years ago for Wattie Watkins, and you are right, it does seem to be common to use the nickname with that last name, just as many use
  4. I know of the Wunsches, but I never knew that was their cemetary. That's nice to know. I rode the Goodyear blimp out there once. It was a fun thing to do, but not as thrilling as one might think. Once, while in the Navy, I was catapulted off the aircraft carrier Kitty Hawk. Now that was a trip!
  5. Right now Joseph is in the back yard garden conversing with the statue of Mary. Tomorrow we will hold the burial ceremony. Michelle has the prayer to go along with the service. The house is on Victory at Leaning Oak.
  6. OK, I swear this is a serious question! My girlfriend is selling her house in Inwood Forrest. Her cousin in Florida told her to bury a statue of St. Joseph upside down in her yard for good luck. Has anyone ever heard of doing this? Well, Michelle just got back from Florida and brought back a statue her cousin gave to her. Now we are ready for the
  7. Actually, there are 14 locations in the DFW Metroplex.Fiesta Mart
  8. It won't be long before we have "Wheel of Fortune - the Movie"! Maybe they could get Courtney Love to play Vanna?
  9. Tbird, I would have sworn the monorail could be seen just after you made the big turn on South Main. However, the location you indicate makes more sense. I would see the monorail as we were on the way to or from Sargent or Bay City. We would have taken Almeda (current 521) to Brazoria, so we would not have been on Main. Waxing nostalgic here, we would always come back on Sunday afternoon, and we always listened to the radio shows like Gunsmoke and Boston Blackie. It was always a special treat if we hit Christies or Spanish Village on the way. You mentioned Jimmie Green Chevrolet. Do you happen to remember the Humble station at Shepherd and Westheimer? It was owned by a fella named Waddie Wadkins (Wattie Watkins?), and he had a deer processing facility on the Shepherd side of the building. Thanks for the clarification on Meyer Speedway.
  10. I wonder what color apples Macy's will sale?
  11. School is still out, it's hot, and the gangs are restless. That's why the artwork is so prevalent. Even my cherished bike bridge has been tagged!
  12. The blimp base was at 45 and Holzwarth. A bit of trivia. As you head north on I-45, just as you cross Cypresswood, there is a small stand of pine trees next to the highway. That is an old cemetery. You used to be able to see it from the freeway, but the new freeway was built over and around it.
  13. The confusion on my part was because there used to be an Eckerd kinda sorta across the street next to the Foodarama.
  14. That new Eckerd was a nice store, but I assume it was flooded pretty good. It
  15. "Debbie Does Dallas"? Never heard of that one. Is that a new show on HGTV?
  16. RedScare, The new CVS is at Yale and 20th where the old Danburg
  17. If they change the Foley*s at Northwest Mall to Macy
  18. Somebody wake me up when they finish the Katy Freeway. On second thought, don't bother. I'll probably be long gone by that time.
  19. In doing a search for Playland Park and the races they used to have featuring AJ Foyt and Billy Wade led me to a blurb about there being a racetrack at Arrowhead Park. I am pretty sure I know where it was because I remember seeing the monorail off South Main past where it makes the bend at the conjunction with Holmes. However, all my searches for Arrowhead came back with the stadium in KC. Now, there used to be stock car races in the late 60
