  1. Generally $120-$150. The Brookhollow hotels are about the same during the week, but they often drop their rates on weekends. I booked my parents in at the senior discount at the Sheraton one time. Their nightly rate ranged from $55-$85. You can look online at all the rates available. The hotels give you a bit of a break for online booking. BTW, most of the hotels have breakfast either complimentary or in packages. The breakfast offering is important because it can allow everybody to have their own start-up time before convening.
  2. I am disappointed with the ignorance of the obvious in the design of this project. The building should be a giant, horizontal W. Top ten reasons the GWB Presidential Library should have been shaped like a giant W. 10) He is known as “W”, duhhh!...................................................bew 9) Odd crop formations are common in the Park Cities area. (It’s way under-reported). 8) It demonstrates the course he set as President. 7) The tremendous exterior surface, with expanses of glass, could allow visitors greater views of the outside to distract themselves from the interior contents (or lack thereof). 6) The tremendous exterior surface, with expanses of glass, could allow certain parties on the outside to observe visitors, without a warrant. 5) It’s Dallas. It should be absurd. 4) Eight years, all about the “W”. (Not about the Constitution or anything silly like that). 3) It would generate the same energy his Presidency did. …Piss off people. 2) It would demonstrate a simpler theme. (Certain alumni of the campus on which this is to be placed strive for simpler themes.) 1) And the number one reason the GWB Library should have been constructed in the shape of a W... Because idolatry - physical and conceptual - is far more important than thinking about things in a constructive, responsible manner.
  3. I'm a little surprised that they are doing this. However, they previously have jacked up homes for garage/garage apartments. I don't have a problem with their dabbling in this on a block with a bunch of McTorians. Also, based on the previous work they've done in demonstrating how staying on one level can be very accommodating and using salvaged materials in restoration, I give them a walk. Full disclosure: My HAIF icon is from another house they are renovating - the brown house next door to the raised house picture above.
  4. Had a really good time at the reception, did you? There was a B&B on the east side of Heights in the 1500 block. "Bogart's". I think it's closed now, and the proprietors opened up a B&B in Navasota by the same name.
  5. Also Sycamore Heights http://www.sycamoreheights.com/ . I am under the impression that they and Sara's get booked up pretty far in advance, particularly for weekends. My parents have stayed at the hotels in Brookhollow. The weekend rates can be very good at the Sheraton. Out of the three, they really liked the Spring Hill Suites the best because it was very quiet and spacious.
  6. They are the designers - http://bungalowrevival.com/home.html
  7. HFD and ATF are looking into this recent event a bit further. The Chronicle
  8. Oops! I was wrong. They are converting it to a two-story. Something new all the time.
  9. Lots of HFD, some HPD. Weird-ass duplex that faces Herkimer and Blair in the 1500 block. I'm hearing potential electrical. (It's recently been - hem - remodeled). Arson investigators are on the scene.
  10. I believe the plan is to build a garage under it in the same manner they built the garage for the craftsman at W14 and Blair.
  11. Architecturally, I like the Bellefontaines better. Also, I think 77025 is a more efficient market. The street-facing units will have better resale value (and, perhaps, a slightly better lifestyle). Beware the shared driveway, though. In buying a condo, I would stay away from the Heights. (Really! Stay away! Shoo!). Being totally serious, the value of the area is built more on single-family houses, not on townhouses, so this seems not be a good fit with your search. Good luck with your venture!
  12. It's odd: The Heights attitude...We don't want to go anywhere...but we want to go somewhere...and sit outside...but not outside on the porch of our historic or neuvostoric house, for which we paid a premium...to have a porch. We ourselves can put a lot of good energy into eggs, waffles/pancakes, sausage, and fruit. Service might be so-so at home, too. However, with good conversation without the din and good bloody marys without the gin, that service may be part of the experience.
  13. Dingos. They know how to drive. Yes...and they're here illegally.
  14. He has purportedly admitted to setting the fire on W 12 @ Herkimer. Story: http://abclocal.go.c...ocal&id=7117182
  15. Update: Harry James apparently sold this property a couple weeks ago. The buyer is 945 Heights Boulevard, LLC. Managers: Timothy M McCloskey and Mark A Carrigan, Carrigan McCloskey & Roberson, L.L.P.
  16. She was an unusual shade of peachy-orange last night. She looked older than Naomi.
  17. I'm not sure that's what they called it. They also don't have a molasses award for Taylor Swift....bless her heart.
  18. Kinky Dancers. Making fun of Kanye. What's happening with the CMA's!? Oh, Hootie wins an award (out of all the black male candidates).
  19. It is odd in the context of an agreement with the billboard industry to remove their wares from neighborhoods and expand their market on thoroughfares. So, is Durham a thoroughfare or a road through a neighborhood?
  20. The menu is still posted! I liked going there for lunch. I would sit in the bright terrace area, having a glass of wine, and an overpriced, tasty sandwich. With very few people in Galleria 3, it was very peaceful. I think the problem is that is was designed to be an upscale, douchey sports bar. The non-terrace areas - a large part of their space - were really dark. For soccer moms trying to shove food into their kids, that won't play, even if price is not an issue. Guys who are into sports bars aren't likely to be the Galleria profile. If they do go there, they are already in a dark place, so they don't need to go somewhere darker.
  21. It's better than some would lead people to believe. There are challenges ahead, but I'm not buying the chicken little mania.
  22. Yeah, I expect the sleezy City contractors to pour more resources into supporting Locke and into disparaging Parker.
