  1. On first look, I like it. MMM. New forum smell.
  2. I've ignored a few requests, but I've generally allowed them. I have caught up with a number folks where contact got lazy. I don't post that much (my life is boring) . However, I get a good hum of lives and opinions from all over the world. Some of its trivial garbage. Some of it is enriching.
  3. Cool concept. This picture awakens my acrophobia, though.
  4. And here I was taking time to come up with something snappy about Pellegrino (as in Monte).
  5. Where? Like last Thursday...we were at the Menil. There was lot of thunder, yet no rain.
  6. Except for the first part of the morning, it gets a lot of sun. It loves sun, in fact. It was leaning severely to the west to the point that I was putting braces on it. Then Tricon pulled down a couple of trees when they put up some "firehouses" behind us. It has balanced itself out nicely. If it's in a pot, it may be getting over toasted in this heat. I thing that is what is making my lime grumpy. Also, if the leaves went yellow (not brown and folded) before they fell off, you might have been doing too much watering.
  7. Oh, OK. I can relate. I stood out on the porch (go figure) for about an hour just grinning.
  8. You didn't get rain!? It really appeared that big parts of the storm lay west of us and were moving south.
  9. = Porchman for the last hour.
  10. Evans-Davis posted this in an individual thread. It turned into a - ahem - discussion over the Mason-Dixon line after TheNiche voted to exclude Maryland from the south. I'm tellin' y'aaall. We need a stand that sells deep-fried stuffing on a stick. It could set up next to Wind Water Gallery. How multi-culti is that?!
  11. A major change at Rice University! The Jesse H. Jones Graduate School of Management is now the Jesse H. Jones Graduate School of Business. http://www.bizjournals.com/houston/stories...22/daily55.html
  12. Our meyer lemon tree is doing really well with the heat. Ferltilizer appears to have helped our small lime.
  13. 1) I pray for this woman's recovery 2) Stuff happens with crowds. Please ignore HPD's trample policy 3) Lower Westheimer looked like a bomb went off at 8AM today. What kind of pride is that? a) Yeah, I know, E. Tinsley is about to be trashed in the name of Patreeism [no misspell]. I intend to rant in bullet points from hereon.
  14. It's centered on the crucifix. It's likely a lamb.
  15. You just gave me stocking stuffers for Mrs. P. and fam-i-ly. Merci pour m'avoir aid
  16. 800 block of Aurora is Sunset heights. Brookesmith is inside the more general area about which Jayman7 inquired, as well.
  17. I have a Meyer lemon in my yard. It does quite well. A new, key lime is trying to figure itself out. Things are suscetible to winter cold snaps. You need to be wary about that in our area.
  18. I'd believe it. In fact, I think Houston would become an epicenter for this. We have a lack of bubble in our market. We have a fast-moving community. Reworks are a good buy-in to many desirable neighborhoods. You make great choices in your redo's.
  19. Great pictures, Brewster! You really got around.
  20. Hmm... tree envy? We understand tmariar is very good at capturing the Heights in pics at the Heights Blog

    HAIF:Maps

I'm really excited about the prospect of this, Editor. I can now see maps in threads, but I can't mark. It freezes up.
  22. Dude! You're not supposed to mention the free beer and wine. Oh yeah, front porch homes, the trees, the birds, the multitude of cats and grumpy, liberal, dog lovers.
  23. Actually, Ive always thought the two run together. The fact that a large part of the Heights is dry has helped preserve its charm. Maybe, some residents in OSW or Rice Mil. want to weigh in on that one. I think Dan has touched on something. I think the Heights is different things for different people. For me: The conveniences Dan mentioned The small town feel - the front porch homes, the trees, the birds, the multitude of cats Our neighbors - blue collar, white collar, business owners, professional, retired. A nice mix. All good folks. Our house. It was smaller than what we had in mind. However, it had all the light and grace we sought. If you're imagining (and all about) a transplanted subdiv with perfect curbs and a screachy HOA that bitches about moss on the side of your house, you'll not get the Heights. It's different (as is Eastwood, as are many sections of Montrose) from a lot of Houston. A little shabby, yes. However, a very comfortable place to live.
  24. APX is purportedly a Honeywell dealer. They have been in the 'hood before. Their guy, who acts like a stoner, showed up at the house on Tuesday. He acts like he's with your security company. "Oh, yeah, we'll upgrade the sign in your yard, and replace it with one that has a light". I said "You're not with Brinks, are you"? He said "I'm glad you asked that", then explained that, indeed, he was not in SO many words. Then he asks me if I know how to test the door sensors. And I asked, "You mean, like when the alarm starts squeaking when I open the door"...? He didn't have an answer to that. I told him that it was pretty sleazy to imply that he was with my alarm company. I told him I was in the middle of a contract project (which I was),and I didn't have time for this. He replied, "Wow, that's something". I said, shaking my head at the idiocy of this conversation, "Okaaaayyy..Uh, Goodbye". I went inside. He headed for my neighbor's house across the street.
