  1. Not yet. I drove by Saturday after another frustrating trip to the TW House Postal Station (I intend to post rant soon). They look really close. However, it's looked pretty close for some time. I'm checking on it from time-to-time as I commute home through Shady Acres. Pretty cool layout. I like the way the put the parking lot in the back and have the walking path wind around to the front.
  2. Red, HY, crunch, meme - I enjoyed meeting you. Sorry I had to scoot. The stand-up made me wish I had stayed at Shiloh. Sorry to miss you, musicman and TJones. Perhaps, anon. Next time I'm bringing butter and dipping oil (for the bread, of course!).
  3. No. However, if First Lady we're an elected position, I bet you could pick out some nice china. [snicker]

  5. This is what was said when Levcor acquired the property last year. http://www.chron.com/CDA/archives/archive....id=2007_4436973
  6. So you're not going to get caught up in the funky [stuff] going down in the city?
  7. Previous discussion centered on late afternoon. Based on The Forecast, I would recommend no earlier than 5PM when the humidity will be around 50% and the temp will have started to drop off from the 90's. So how about 5-ish?
  8. ...and it's formal name is The Shiloh Club, so be repectful .
  9. I recently heard an international security expert speak to China's resource need, and how it may drive its hunger for conquest. However, he said that analysis indicated that China would likely look at shoaring up its claimed territory in the South China Sea where there appears to be a great deal of oil. If you look at the territoitorial claims on this map, one easily can see the potential for tension in that region.
  10. Bikes and drugs?! Wow, West Heights/Harding Heights are becoming a regular Tour de France. I agree. The quiet corner there likely lends itself to this activity. I would suggest you contact the HPD storefront: 1100 block of Shepherd (behind Autozone) 713 803-1151 Hours: 8am-4pm (Mon-Fri)</FONT>. Tell them what you're seeing and determine their knowledge/action.
  11. Good suggestion. It's really cool to see the ships from all over the world and the massive refineries. However, tix ususally need to be booked pretty far in advance. Also, there's the National Museum of Funeral History ( http://www.nmfh.org/ ).
  12. Where else can they see an Art Car Museum and a Beer Can House? Here! Here! Blue Nile or, if you're feeling profligate, the chef's playground at Catalan, or just a weird-ass pizza from Pink's. Cocktail walks in the Heights can be very interesting! Dangerous, but interesting. How low-key? Happy Days might be good. Niche says you can find some interesting company there.
  13. Yeah, a lot of the people in Rita traffic were Houstonians. (I was not one, BTW..I don't do traffic on an elective basis). Yes many of the west-enders are Houstonians. However, note to Lyda Ann, The Galveston Daily News, BOI's, beach-buying Houstonians and others: Don't ask other Texans to bail out Galveston property owners through taxes, when property on the west end (and maybe in "Disney Village" on the east end) disappears into the Gulf as tends to happen on barrier islands. Such a claim is contrary to the exisiting riparian laws of Texas. Insurance premiums shouldn't pay for it either. In fact, I suggest the Legislature look at making insurance carriers carry special bonds with TDI to write policies for new developments on shoals like Galveston and other Gulf Coast strips.
  14. Somewhat disturbing. When I left Ohio 12 years ago, the big rage in yard art (and, trust me, Ohio has cornered the market on yard art) was THE silhouette cutout. They were all black, life-size, 2D figures (example: guy leaning, smoking a pipe) which people would lean against a tree or a post. It appears they've come a long way, baby. No more uzi action.....please.
  15. Mrs. Porchman does not like my handling knives. BTW, I often cut myself when listening to Depeche Mode. MY JOBS: 12-16... Mowing lawns 17... Food prep/bussing/dishes at a fondue restaurant. I have a valuable cheese sauce with kirche recipe. 18... Working for a small opera company.
  16. OK. What the hell? I've been watching this sucker fly at about 4000-6500 feet for some time now. My theory: They are measuring positive chi in the Heights, so they can quash it. Maybe, their continuing to circle, in effect, is intended to quash our positive chi . But why? [X-Files Theme].
  17. So you do have hobbies outside The HAIF!
  18. Black helicopters or a C-130 or both? The latter might be related to this thread. Saturday, I saw a fleet of six Apaches fly over. I thought, "That's it. He isn't going to give up the office to Obama or McCain".
  19. Heights to Woodway/S. Post Oak - 5.5 miles - 11-15 minutes morning / 15-18 minutes evening (or longer if I try leaving right at 5). Mrs. Porchman's - 15 feet from bedroom to office. Poor woman, she does it before she has her coffee. (That's an additional 30 feet)
  20. I don't go past there much. Where are they dealing - the parking area or the b-ball shelter? (Academic interest only ).
  21. Reported this morning in the Houston Chronicle's Business Section. Kraftsmen Baking's Scott Tycer plans to move the company the 114-year-old Oriental Textile Mill at Lawrence and W. 22. He will also be operating a retaurant there, "Textile", with a planned opening in July. Kraftsmen currently operates near Rice Military. This is exciting. It's a cool building, and I'm glad to see an investment in it. I'm also glad to see another new dining attraction come to the area. He will, of course, need to incoporate similar "club" rules as Shade, because that area is within the dry zone. EDIT: I'm pleased that there will be some retail outlet for Kraftsmen at the site. We can stop by on our trips to Fiesta. (Missed that paragraph in the article earlier).
  22. No need to refile. Your only job now is to know what your house is worth, so you know when to protest. BTW, they may come back on the '07 taxes. That surprise I mentioned happened at the endo of '06 for '05 taxes.
  23. The roof collapsed this morning. Channel 13 is reporting that demo crews are prepping to take the rest of it down tonight.
  24. To clarify, she needs to affirm the exemption as part of the protest and file in order for it to be effected this year, correct? Careful that bit us the butt. I even notified them that the over-65 was still on the house, and they told me the previous owner had to move it. I figured it would shake out eventually, but imagine my surprise when another $1,000 of taxes appeared after December 27 and after my escrow had settled the previously asessed taxes. Had I not been checking to make sure mortgage company paid the taxes, I would not have caught this.
  25. Whether you had a homestead last year is unrelated to your taxes this year. You have missed the deadline to file for this year (April 30). However, I would recommend you file for homestead for this year as soon as possible. You have missed the deadline to effect the property value reduction for this year's taxes, but you may be able to get a rebate on your 2008 taxes in the future. ("May" because I'm not Paul Bettencourt...and I don't play him on TV). By the way, do you pay the taxes outright or are you escrowing? Either way the hit's delayed at least until January of 2009. Prepare for it. Welcome to the Forum.
