  1. Cotswold Fountain #3, the tall fountain in the middle of the Square, the Lauren's Garden fountains... I find all of those fountains very interesting, and the clock tower is right across the street. "wow factor that would be a must see" I don't know of any such fountains in the United States. Rome has some real stunners, but over here we don't really do fountains that are a must-see, because that's not what people tour America for.
  2. I like green space better than hard space, so I'm going to have to disagree with you that Houston needs a square as you define it. Parks are great, and Market Square is a great area with lots of activity. "Too much traffic" reads like a Yogi Berra line: "Nobody goes there anymore. It's too crowded."
  3. If it were common knowledge that Rice owned the Rice Village properties, why would they bother to hide it with shell companies? Claims call for evidence. Those who believe that Rice owns them should post their evidence, not rumors they heard.
  4. Sounds expensive. While City of Houston would benefit from improving transit in the region, I doubt they want to foot the whole bill to connect Cypress and etc. to Downtown.
  5. The sets of President's heads were made by David Adickes and sold to various municipalities, one in Virginia and another in South Dakota. A third set was being worked on, but the commission was cancelled, so the heads were sold with the building when Adickes sold his Sculpturworx Studio. They're now owned by the owner of the building, which is now called Summer Street Studios.
  6. Don't need to seize property to increase density. Just decrease or eliminate minimum parking requirements for businesses, among other things that can be done.
  7. Green Seed Vegan, The Modular became Goro & Gun, and Bernie's Burger Bus is on the way to brick & mortar.
  8. But which data? http://www.genefortexas.com/docs/lbb_public_ed_email.jpg
  9. Okay, Little Dipper (new bar from Poison Girl people) is now open in the former Cava Bistro space (the second one, next door to the former Cielo Mexican Bistro/Pete's Dancing Marlin space). Dean's Credit Clothing has re-opened and has a cocktail list and a good beer list. In the last year, we've got: Clutch City Squire OKRA Pastry War Goro & Gun Little Dipper Batanga Fusion Taco Barnaby's Brewery Incubator and Dean's closed and reopened.
  10. What else has Tycer got his fingers in? Kraftsmen, and what else? I will be glad when the Tycer scourge is gone from Houston.
  11. But a person's religion is their choice while what gender(s) they're attracted to is usually something they were born with. Are all religions created equal? Maybe some religions have positions that would be cause for concern for a person wishing to hold public office, especially if the person is campaigning on religious slogans.
  12. The cookie smell seems to crank out of another building on the property, this one with the vents: https://maps.google.com/?ll=29.741317,-95.373484&spn=0.002087,0.004128&t=m&z=19&layer=c&cbll=29.741243,-95.373541&panoid=y2JPftN7sk9jAIqVea62yw&cbp=12,346.73,,0,3.45
  13. They are bigots, and they are homophobes.
  14. Yep, fortune cookie factory, Wonton Food Corp at Caroline and Anita. Very noticeable if you go to 13 Celsius wine bar across the street. There's another fortune cookie factory that you can smell at Dunlavy and Fairview.
  15. While federal spending for the Department of Education has grown a great deal, per student spending as a whole has been decreasing in Texas for a while. http://www.genefortexas.com/docs/lbb_public_ed_email.jpg
  16. "Analysis is confined to households with one or more children." Very convenient, when so many illegal immigrants are young men working and sending money home to their family. Anyway, it makes your statement "70% of the undocumented population of Texas must rely on some form of government assistance" false. It is 69% of the households with one+ child.
  17. Well I care about it a great deal, and there is a lot of residential coming in to Downtown right now. Things are looking good, and this one project being canceled is not that big of a deal.
  18. They're only responsible for building the streets they themselves took apart. If I damage my neighbor's sidewalk then I owe him to fix it.
  19. The one under Chase Tower was changed to a Maggie Rita's several months ago.
