  1. They already take calls for public intoxication if someone is drunk and harassing people. Right now all they can do is take them to jail until they sober up and possibly charge them with public intoxication. It's not a good solution, though, because someone in danger of alcohol poisoning or overdose should be monitored closely. Tough to monitor one person in a holding tank of 40 or 50 people at the City Jail.
  2. Yeah, I've been really excited about it. Addiction should be treated with compassion and humanity, not jail time.
  3. Not if all of his business connections are highway construction companies. All depends on who can scratch a back the best.
  4. Clutch City Squire has opened. I like it. The Club Glo spot has reopened as Club Pure.
  5. I don't think people start businesses based on contributing to the diversity of the neighborhood, not usually anyway. Anyway, here's the piece. http://houston.eater.com/archives/2013/02/15/pastry-chef-roy-shvartzapel-reveals-plan-to-bring-worldclass-cafe-to-montrose.php
  6. It's like an international caliber cafe or something like that. I think the piece was in Culturemap.
  7. Well for example, the only reason you'd see a Post Rice person would be if they went to Saucer. Otherwise they're walking to Market Square or hopping on the train to go to Pavilions, Midtown, Med Center, Rodeo, etc.
  8. Ah, The Good Life is from the racist Sawyer Park charlatans. Back on my blacklist it goes.
  9. 4 bars opening in Midtown now or shortly. Capitol Bar is open on Main a block from Mongoose. The Good Life at 510 W Gray. A beer bar called Warhal's is coming in at the 2016 Main Sammy's space. And Dogwood should be open soon.
  10. I went last night and ordered a different calamity, some gin drink that comes with a spoon of honeycomb and Honey Nut Cheerios on top. The drink was fine, but what the hell am I supposed to do to mix a honeycomb and Cheerios into a mason jar cocktail full of big ice cubes?? Or do I just eat a spoonful of honeycomb? The place is odd. The grilled cheese sandwich and tomato soup was fine. Not much desire to go back.
  11. More cars on public streets, that is. What is a "hipster bar", anyway? The term hipster is getting pretty gauche. Anyway, I don't agree with you. I know people that ride bikes to nice restaurants. In fact, I'm one of them.
  12. It opened today. Almost anything's worth a shot, so I'll probably check it out.
  13. The biggest problem with Westheimer is how narrow the lanes are on the bends. Not something that repaving can fix, sadly.
  14. Things are already changing for the better. Passing Council today was a new exemption to the parking requirements allowing businesses to reduce their parking requirements by 10% by trading 1 car space for 4 bike spaces.
  15. Yeah, I went the day they opened. It's alright. Sweet patio, and Coreano's was docked and serving food.
  16. Which space in that center did they replace?
  17. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I think miles and miles of parking lots ruin the attractiveness of the neighborhood. Houston's a pedestrian hell because of the commitment to car culture.
  18. Creating a due process is exactly what's proposed.
  19. Judges never even come into the picture unless someone has been transported to a mental health facility to be held. I hope that none of us think that people who have severe paranoid schizophrenia or delusions have a Second Amendment right to bear arms, because that makes for a very dangerous society.
  20. Right now, if someone is exhibiting signs of having a mental break, they're taken to a mental health institution where it can be determined if they're safe to be released. There are not enough resources, though, so often known ill people have to be released back on to the streets. The legislation proposed by the Police Chief say that if that happens, a judge should then determine if the person is sane and can own guns again. This is one gun regulation that I think should be fairly uncontroversial.
