  1. So we shouldn't build any more rail because most people don't live a block from where the rail already is?
  2. A million dollars or more in my pocket is ideal. I don't have it, though.
  3. Sometimes the tail wags the dog. City of Houston imposing minimum parking lot requirements for restaurants and bars creates vast expanses of concrete that a pedestrian has to walk past to get where he's going. Car culture is promoted and enforced, so of course it's most convenient.
  4. Maybe we should do some polling to find out what percentage of various areas make regular use of public transit. Maybe probable ridership is more important than density.
  5. DWI conviction in 1995. $750 fine and 180 days jail probated 1 year.
  6. And not just paving either, maybe get the money's worth by jogging on the 2.5 block trail. I don't know if it's true that a majority of people will shop there, but I don't really think it matters. They'll have plenty of customers and do fine.
  7. Sounds like we need about 60 illegal immigrants.
  8. But I like the old buildings Let's get rid of some more parking lots!
  9. Then why don't you argue with s3mh about it, because I didn't suggest that.
  10. I thought we were discussing the 380 in this thread. If this isn't the thread for it, fine with me!
  11. I'm a libertarian that loves capitalism and hates Walmart. Loving an economic system doesn't mean you love all the companies operating in it.
  12. Crescent City still does great on Westheimer across from Lamar High School. I think they have Community Coffee as well.
  13. You're hoping your under-employed friends will realize their full potential by getting a job at Walmart? Welp.
  14. And if you work for Walmart, you're probably going to be choosing to live without health insurance. Wage isn't everything, but it's definitely a factor.
  15. The city can be viciously slow about issuing permits, especially for a type of building they are unfamiliar with. I wouldn't blame MTI.
  16. Here's the org http://listentothecriesofthechildren.org/donate
  17. The event is 10 hours long. You don't have to fit 500 at one time.
  18. I would say that Double Trouble has the best coffee in Midtown.
  19. There's no proof that it's fake, but it's only a 15,000 sf plot, and their smallest known store is 17K sf building in San Francisco.
  20. I reiterate that the gas station is just a symptom of the area. I haven't seen any accusations that the station owner is involved in any illegal dealings. It seems like the city expects some gas station owner to hire an entire security team to make sure nothing shady is going on in their parking lot. This is a completely unreasonable expectation that no other gas station has to suffer. If HPD says there are too many fights or drug deals going down in the area, they should increase patrols or set up some undercover buy busts. It's not reasonable to expect a business owner to have to go out and stand toe to toe with every brawler, junkie, or dealer. That's what police are for.
  21. Hm, a pretty optimistic outlook from Metro. When I lived in Spring I couldn't have reasonably got to Metro without a car. These days it would be a little easier with my bicycle, but they didn't offer bike racks at the time.
  22. Well, you have been begging them to go West.
