  1. Apparently JCPenney left in 2002 or something like that but had a several year gap before reopening in MCM (while Dillard's was almost immediate). Did Penney's hold on until after L&T closed in 2005??? I also found a picture of T&C (just one) from their old website (and that was the only thing they had) that gave a few visual clues: The tile was red-and-beige. There were real tree of some sort. A statue of a longhorn and a cowboy on a horse was near Merle Norman, first floor. The railings were red. What happened to this statue? Does anyone know?
  2. Specifically, kind of like this, except non-Flash. Or something. http://74.220.215.244/~syracus4/penncaninteractivemaps.htm
  3. So recently I had a cool idea that involved Houston...and I came up with a project called The Galleria Map Project. Basically, my plan is to take the existing The Galleria lease plans (http://www.simon.com/about_simon/leasing/LocalMall.aspx?id=805), blank the existing stores, and fill in the stores I...and others...remember. Unfortunately, this is only in the planning stages and I don't have the right program to handle everything. I mean, it would certainly be a cool project if it were to be done, and...I guess I could post answers to any Q&A.
  4. The retail component, if there is one, should be easily integrated with Post Oak Mall since it is so close by.
  5. For some reason IKEA makes me a bit claustrophobic.
  6. And of course such a train would stop in BCS...right?
  7. Oh, oh, here's another! MR. SIX of Six Flags fame. Unfortunately, he couldn't save AstroWorld...
  8. Hmm... News Media: Katie Couric Any regulars on CNN Politicians: John Edwards Al Gore Any socialistic goon Other: OJ Simpson
  9. Wow, thanks! In 2003, there was a toy store that was called Kid N Kaboodle, but that's about it. Texas gift shops are so boring. Name a mall in Texas that DOESN'T have one of these (or a GNC, for that matter).
  10. On the Rink Level of the Galleria, there's a store that's located under the stairs, and I believe it is now a Texas gift shop. However, I recall my cousin telling me about a store that sold cat-related merchandise. I'm guessing this was late 1990s or early 2000s. Does anyone know the name of this?
  11. Actually, my dad never said anything about the pool, I guess my memory was just bad or he was talking about something else.
  12. Let's see....I found the location... http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source...mp;t=h&z=17 I thought I saw ambulances, too...
  13. Yes...couldn't tell because it was dark and I was in a car.
  14. ...at Friday, 7PM, more or less. I was first drawn to the large tent near it, but there were flashing lights there, too! What happened?
  15. My dad said it because of an old beach/pool area there but it has to be something else. Can anyone fill me in on this pool or why it is called that?
  16. No, I wrote the Galleria one on Labelscar. I did submit to DM though the following: The Shops at Willow Bend, Manor East Mall, Sunrise Mall (of Corpus Christi). None were ever posted. Jerks. The Sunrise Mall one was rewritten though by me and resubmitted to Labelscar later (http://labelscar.com/texas/sunrise-mall)
  17. So while looking through Historic Aerials, I stumbled upon an oddity just past I-10...an abandoned railroad ROW paralleling the interstate. The railroad was recently stripped, and there were even railroad crossing markings were visible on Gessner. ("http://www.historicaerials.com/?poi=3770") An atlas I have identifies it as the Missouri Kansas Texas. Unfortunately, Google Maps, while often displaying abandoned railroad lines, it doesn't show up with this one. Now here's where things get funky. Google stops identifying it as a railroad here but the line ends at Katy Fort Bend Road. Following the line, it reappears near Hempstead Rd. and I-610, but turns into a yard and vanishes. Note the abandoned bridge. After passing through a few parks, it dips below 10 and becomes "Spring Street". After that, it's a bit confusing..I can't follow it, because other railroads come in and screw my sense of direction up (and the map is kind of hard to read). Can anyone describe/know more information?
  18. I was going to point out Obama was only half-black. Everyone always beats me to the punchline. (see also: House leveling) TJones: Here's a better one---
  19. How is this "Strand" building doing after Ike? I remember they built a small house on top of it when I went in August. Is the house still there?
  20. I don't know about keep to the right, but I remember a sign that said "LITTERING IS UNLAWFUL"
  21. I'm kind of curious about the one in Ohio. That's right--an arrogant developer bought the chain just so he could place it in some blue-collar suburb in Ohio. Sakowitz and the other chain, B. Altman died soon after the Ohio mall was built (it is now Cincinnati Mills) but Bonwit Teller was sold to Pyramid. If only Foley's was bought by an "arrogant developer" instead of Macy's, then sold it, we could still be seeing Foley's right now...
  22. Well of course I know what a power center is. It's just a fancy name for a strip mall, except heavy on the "anchor stores". Don't be misled. I was just quoting the exact words...and...well, thanks.
  23. I heard. There were lots of emergency vehicles on campus. News is spreading, the Texoma KTEN has news on it now.
  24. Every time I head out of H-town, on the side of one such field, it promised a new "power center" anchored by H-E-B. Trouble is, I haven't seen any development nor have I been able to exactly recreate the spot with Google Maps Street View (I think I'm looking in the wrong place). Does anyone a) know what I'm talking about know how long the sign has been there/going to start? If so, it would be greatly appreciated.
