  1. I've always heard trampolines were very popular in the 1960s. I looked on opencorpates and wow! There was a lot of businesses registered during that time. I believe there were three, if not more, located in Southwest Houston? I believe there was one in Meyerland, Westbury, and Willowbend? I just so happen to find (due to the company spelling) a few historical items about the location in Meyerland. This was located where present-day Meyerland Commons shopping center is? Did this, by chance, have miniature golf/putt putt as well? Teen-Agers Invited To Enter 'Jump to Berlin' Contest Boys and girls of the Houston area will have a chance to compete for a free trip to Berlin, Germany, in the “Jump to Berlin” contest announced here by Paul Allen, operator of the Jumpin' Gyminy Rebound Tumbling Center at 4942 Beechnut in Meyerland-- The website opencorporates has the business name slightly different. I wonder if these were a franchise? Each operation might be slightly different by all spelled with Jumpin' Gyminy. Jumpin' Gyminy Trampoline Centers, Inc. Incorporate Date: June 6, 1960 Dissolution Date: March 26, 1962 Registered Agent: C A Parker Jr.
  2. I noticed this advertisement for Playland Play School in a local newspaper called The Bellaire Texan dated April 20, 1960. Did anyone ever go here as a child? Who was the owner/caretaker? Obviously, cool name!! Definitely word-playing on Playland Park. I wonder where this was located? It childcare was probably located in someone's home? I'd say somewhere in Southwest Houston, given the newspaper source. Bellaire, Meyerland, Westbury, or Willowbend? Playland Play School Now Open We Keep Children While Mother's Work or Play Call MO 6-1313 After 5 o'clock call MO 5-5226 or MA 3-7202
  3. I was browsing the newspaper The Bellaire Texan dated June 15, 1988 and came across this business advertisement. Very cool! This was located on the corner of West Bellfort and Chimney Rock, with an address of 5312 West Bellfort Blvd. Anyone have any memories of this place? How did it compare to, let's say, Spec's Liquors? How was the craft beer scene back in the late 1980s? I can imagine it was probably mainly Busch, Budweiser, or Coors. Although, Saint Arnold's Brewery was around! Pretty cool find!! Toby's Liquor 5312 W. Bellfort at Chimney Rock * 723-0761 16 Gal. Bush 60 l.b. ice 100 cups $39.99 16 Gal Lite * Coors or Budwiser 60 l.b. ice 100 Cups $49.99 - Ask About Our Delivery -
  4. I was wondering the significance of the Sabin Vaccine Institute in related to the TMC. Is there an actual Sabin Vaccine Institute in Houston? As far as I know, the SVI is located in Washington, DC. I ask because, on TMC's website, under the Member Institutions page, SVI is listed. Anyone know why they are affiliated with Texas Medical Center? All the other companies are located in Houston.
  5. Kelsey-Seybold to replace 50-year-old Tanglewood clinic with new location in former Whole Foods https://www.bizjournals.com/houston/news/2023/05/09/kelsey-seybold-tanglewood-clinic.html Houston-based Kelsey-Seybold Clinic will replace its nearly 50-year-old Tanglewood location with a new clinic. The new 20,000-square-foot building will be at 6401 Woodway Drive, near the current Tanglewood clinic on Augusta Drive, Kelsey-Seybold said May 5. The Woodway site formerly was home to a Goody Goody Liquor location and a Whole Foods Market grocery store before that. A company spokesperson confirmed the current Tanglewood clinic was last expanded in 1997 following its opening in 1976. _____________ Any potential buyers for the Tanglewood site? I can see something like a Pelican Builders mixed-use development. A 7 to 9 story condo development with some retail and a garage. Or a massive 350-unit multifamily complex. Let's say along the likes of Alexan Tanglewood, Alta Tanglewood, Broadstone Tanglewood, or Modera Tanglewood. I can also see a mixed-use high-rise development here. Although due to the current economic outlook, I don't see that happening. There will be NIMBY neighborhood protesting for whatever is proposed! This is prime land.. Notice the irregular shape of the parcel due to Geo. H. Lewis & Sons Funeral Directors property. I wonder if someone could buy half of their surface lot for $25 million?
  6. Yes! Texas Medical Center Hospital Laundry Cooperative Association is listed on TMC's Member Institutions. The laundry facility is now located at 9424 Fannin Street, in the industrial development called O'Quinn Lexington Park.
  7. There has been current discussion about Wildcat Golf Club's land that's located across from the proposed TMC BioPort and UT's 307-acres. I wanted to continue the discussion. I called and spoke to one of the owners last year. Wildcat has no intention of selling their property. The owner said they would invite future TMC BioPort tenants for a game of golf. Jokingly, they would build an entrance gate to welcome BioPort tenants. I believe, Wildcat is selling 53-acres of unused, extra land a long Almeda Road/West Airport Blvd. Driving a long this section of W. Airport is like driving in the country! Surrounded by trees. The whole area of Pierce Junction is crazy!! https://www.loopnet.com/Listing/W-Airport-Boulevard-Rd-Houston-TX/26947830/ This map from TIRZ 24 highlighting the vacant Buffalo Speedway/Holmes road land. Just imagine if WGC sold their golf course and someone bought everything, all at once. 1,145+ acres!! For decades, people have been collecting parcels and trying to develop this land. It never works out. I can see TMC BioPort going through, but UT's land might be a long-term investment. I could also see someone buying UT's land before they have a chance to develop it. I'm being overly optimistic, but I'd hope TMC buys UT's land to expand the 500-acre campus. And then, in 30 years, TMC could buy WGC for $100 million. In other words, for TMC to control everything in the below image. Would be amazing!!!
  8. The development was originally called TMC3 BioMed Park, critical supply life science manufacturing park. The first master plan seemed to be requesting federal pandemic stimulus funds. The master plan is dated June 2020. Target TMC3 BioMed Park Tenants. wow!! This would have been an absolute dream!! Is this in progress?? How are the conversations going? I know a few of these companies are already housed in the TMC Innovation Factory. Seems like an ideal situation-- The TMC3 BioMed Park's ideal tenant mix would house leading pharmaceutical manufacturers, PPE manufactures, health innovators, nonprofits, and government organizations. TMC has been in conservation with many of the below organizations to understand their production capabilities and space requirements for the new manufacturing park. BARDA, Johnson+Johnson, ABB, FDA, GE Healthcare, 3M, Honeywell, Novartis, Merck, Civica, Pfizer In this site plan, BioMed Park took control of UT's land on Holmes Road. Renderings:
  9. I tracked the construction progress for 3 weeks since the concrete mat pour. This is going fast!! Week 1: Week 2: Week 3: A 3rd tower crane!!
  10. This one is completed and wow!! Amazing project, one of my favorites from Pelican Builders!! Might actually schedule a tour of the building. Great pricing, I noticed it's just shy of a million. https://westmorehouston.com/gallery.html Here's a photo of the ribbon cutting to celebrate the opening of The Westmore:
  11. Updates on this property. This fell out of contract once TMC BioPort was placed on hold. Back on the market now! I was driving by and noticed a hole in the woods so I parked my car and went to take a look. This is a City of Houston gravity sewer line project to be aligned with the nearby Lift Station upgrades. There are lift station upgrades going on up the street on Westridge and also down South Main. Great for the neighborhood, but I hoped there would be something happening here. Gotta love the South Main deforestation. Sooner than later, there won't be any "forests" left on South Main/Buffalo Speedway/Holmes Road. The area will slowly develop with concrete.
  12. Oh yeah!! Cushman & Wakefield is now marketing this. Much better than the previous firm. We now actually have a marketing flyer! Man. Is this a hot property or what? Directly across the street from NRG Park, and also across the street from the METRORail Red Line. Just a few miles up the block is the TMC! I'm thinking 4 to 6 story multifamily here. That, or the other thing that makes sense is a medical office building. Kind of off the beaten path for a MOB though. Loopnet listing: https://www.loopnet.com/Listing/8400-Fannin-St-Houston-TX/28676417/
  13. Capital Retail Properties has this featured on their front page!! Mixed-Use Development consisting of 4-story multifamily and retail. The rendering features only one of three parcels of the 17 acre site. This is Parcel B consisting of 7.45 acres. Kinda cool! Can they get it off the ground? CRP does great work!
  14. Is it just me or was there soil testing going on? Did I also see a Capital Retail Properties sign? Where would the water works move to? I would need to go drive by to verify what I saw. Something could be brewing here.
  15. Looking for information about this cool old motel. I believe it changed hands at some point. I'm trying to research the original owner of the motel. I assume this place opened in the 1960s? 16. I was researching Lovitt Commercial's new development and I came across this. I never knew there used to be a Howard Johnson Express Inn Astrodome/Medical Center here. wow!! The address was 9604 South Main Street. Cool history here!! Did anyone ever happen to stay here?
  17. I was browsing a newspaper dated August 5, 1967 and came across a cool vintage advertisement. 19. wow!! Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board Capital Expenditure Plan Report Fiscal Years 2023-2027 September 2022 The University of Texas Health Scicnes Center at Houston A few things that caught my eye for the TMC campus: Digital Innovation Tower - $84,000,000 Medical Hospital - $244,000,000 (!!!!) MSB Research Expansion Phase II - $200,000,000 Public Health Education and Research Building - $315,000,000 UTHealth Housing Phase 4 - $94,000,000 Some more on the UTHealth Digital Innovation Tower for the Research Park Complex. Texas House of Representatives Committee on Higher Education Interim Charge Two, Request for Information The University of Texas System September 1, 2020 The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston The UTHealth Houston two proposals for a research building connected to the new TMC3 project that would be the new hoe to the UTHealth School of Public Health and a Digital Innovation Tower on the south research campus for the UTHealth School of Biomedical Informatics. These to schools have set an explosion in enrollment due to the pandemic and student wanting to enter into the public health field or the informatics/artificial intelligence fields. * SBMI Summer 2020: +26.6% over last summer * SPH Summer 2020: +21.1% over last summer And both schools are seeing large increases in Fall enrollment as well. These two workforces that are facing shortages in Texas highlight bu the pandemic. It is estimated that more than 4/5 of all public health workforce are not formally trained in public health. Informatics and see of artificial intelligence are the ways future epidemics can be contact traced successfully without may of the privacy concerns. These demands for expended public health and informatics workforce stress the needs for funding for this infrastructure.
  20. wow!! Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board Capital Expenditure Plan Report Fiscal Years 2023-2027 September 2022 The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center A few things that caught my eye for the TMC campus: Land Acquisition No. 4 - $75,000,000 Ambulatory Clinical Building Three - $1,547,000,000 Ambulatory Clinical Building Two - $993,000,000 Biosciences Research Facility - $441,000,000 Inpatient Bed Tower (IBT Phase 2) - $1,800,000,000 Research Building Number Two - $375,000,000 Research Data Building - $125,000,000 South Campus Education Building - $325,000,000 South Campus Research Building 5 - $494,000,000 Support Services Building (IBT Phase 1) - $1,285,000,000 The new Inpatient Bed Tower is supposed to be a game changer. Looks very expensive with lots of modifying to achieve the new land to build. I believe they are also shifting operations to the forthcoming campus called “South of Holcombe” which is on Fannin and Pressler.
  21. Is there an address to this airport? Any of the surrounding airport buildings have addresses? I believe it was located on South Main Street, across from HISD's Butler Stadium. Hillcroft and South Main. So, in the area of 13755 South Main Street. I found a newspaper article about the closing of the airport dated July 6, 1957. Sam Houston Airport Will Close July 15. Sam Houston airport will be no more than a memory after July 15. Already the 70 planes based at the field have been moved to other locations. Cliff Hyde, operator of Sam Houston, has shifted to the La Porte airport when he has a 30-year lease on a 5/12 acres. He has built new facilities where he will hangar and maintain 25 aircraft from Sam Houston... The deactivated airport, opened in 1940, whs one of the better smaller fields in the Houston Area...
  22. Here are the two possible MD Anderson builds for the site. 500,000 square feet is a lot, so I don't think it's the surgical center. Sugar Land Cancer Network Site Replacement - $392,200,000 Ambulatory Surgery Center Sugar Land/West Houston - $85,000,000
  23. Confirmed this was apart of the Kiddie Wonderland amusement park. The key determining factor was the train number. I found the South Main Narrow Gauge Ry. tickets as described in the original posting. I will transcribe the tickets and also include photos below. I actually have @Mr.rpmto thank for linking us with that last YouTube video of KW. I found the matching train number 97 on the video. Front: South Main Narrow Gauge Ry. 24. Around the internet, there is some confusion about the opening and operating years of this amusement park. Some articles say Kiddie Wonderland started to operate in the 1930s. However, according to libraries and the website opencorporates, the company was founded in 1946. As a matter of fact, the Texas history library that I read does not have any newspaper/publication articles until the 1950s. I don't see this as being in the 1930s. However, there could have been an unofficial version of Kiddie Wonderland. Maybe a smaller operation, just for the neighborhood? I believe KW was also sold once or twice. There are several incorporation registrations on opencorporates. Most definitely different owners at some point. The internet articles also like to say it was founded by O.D. Drane and his wife Elizabeth Drane. I figured out O.D. stands for Oliver Drane. On opencorporates, there is a listing for Drane Development Company. Kiddie Wonderland Inc Incorporation Date: April 19, 1947 (around 76 years ago) Dissolution Date: December 27, 1950 Company Type: Domestic For-Profit Corporation Jurisdiction: Texas (US)
