  5. Saw this car advertisement for Joe Myer's Ford located at 4410 Westheimer Rd. Can we date this? 1960s? Kind of crazy to have a surface lot for car sales in the (present day) River Oaks. Joe Myers' Ford. . . . Family Headquaters For Your Transportation Requirements "We Sell To You Again" Joe Meyers' Ford Inc. 4410 Westheimer (3 Blocks East of Loop 610) New Cars NA 2-1550 Used Cars NA 2-1554
  6. Does anyone know what is going on with the street lights around UT's developable 80-acres? The land surrounded by Willowbend, Buffalo Speedway, and West Bellfort. This getting beyond tiring! The street lights are owned by the city I assume? Can CenterPoint Energy not fix this within a weeks time? Why is this such a waste land? Did the University of Texas System stop paying their utility bills?
  7. This is wild! I thought the Burger King that later became Dairy Queen was the typical corporate franchise store. This Burger King looks like nothing you see today!! Can anyone date this? Who owned this location, who was management? This Burger King was located on S. Post Oak near Willowbend. Not where the (current) location stands. This is the original! Thanks. Example of the illumination at night. Can't confirm this is the same S. Post Oak location.
  8. Anyone remember Tangier Club & Disco located at 2637 Winrock in the 1970s? Hello from Hollywood Feauring Christy Lane, Jill Jordan, Melba Peterson, Kandi Delight, Dachelle, and Erika Lane. Southwest Houston's Only Gay Club & Discog With You In Mind..

  10. Is this something we know about? Isn't there 2 other South Main/South Post Oak business parks going up? Is this the Houston Sportsplex land? Constellation Real Estate Partners/Crow Holdings Capital acquire 33 acres in Houston March 17, 2022 Constellation Real Estate Partners, an investor and developer of logistics properties, in partnership with a real estate fund advised by Crow Holdings Capital, announced that it has acquired 32.95 acres of land on South Post Road in Southwest Houston for the development of Constellation Post Oak. 11. I was driving towards TMC3 and notice a very thicc crane today at the TECO Braeswood plant. TNT Crane & Rigging bringing impressive materials as usual!! @hindeskyDo you know what type of crane this is?
  12. What's up with this school named Mirabeau B. Lamar School On Henry And Chestnut that was active in 1914? Isn't the full name of Lamar High School in River Oaks on Westheimer Road called Mirabeau B. Lamar High School? I forgot where I found this. Probably in a 1914 HISD school report? Is there an exact address to this HISD school? Mirabeau B. Lamar School, corner of Henry and Chestnut. District- From Southern Pacific tracks north to the city limits, and from Bayou east to line beginning at city limits, going on Chochran Street south to Noble, then west to Common, then south to Hogan, then west to Gentry, and then south to Southern Pacific Shops. For pupils of first six grades. Miss Nona Amerman, Principal. Fifteen regular teachers.
  13. What's the story with the old Twelve Oaks Hospital located at 4200 Portsmouth Street? The original hospital with the huge columns was demolished for the expansion of the glass facade "River Oaks Hospital"? What years was the original hospital active? Any demolishing pictures? Anyone have any memories here? I guess being a hospital, it might be bad memories. Found this postcard on Ebay. The idea of this hospital sitting near Greenway Plaza is wild. It would definitely not fit in today's commercial/hospital realty climate. Tweleve Oaks Hospital 4200 Portsmouth, Houston, Texas 77027 Beautiful 112-bed general hospital, conveniently located between the Southwest Freeway and Richmond Avenue. Complete, modern facilities for all surgical and medical patients. Spacious, cheerful rooms with a home-like atmosphere.
  14. This property is included in the 1950's Sanborn map!! Very, very cool!! One important detail that I noticed is different from all my research is the address. If I'm reading the map correctly, the Greenwood's Sanitarium is located at 7308 Old Main Street Road. Where did all the other historians (and internet articles) get the address 9218 Old Main Street Road? I'm glad HAIF has the real, correct address! That's what we are here for! Located near the intersection of Old Main Street Road (now Fannin Street) and Old Spanish Trail.
  15. This could be the Main Skeet Club? The 1942 book called Houston, a history and guide mentions: Trap shooting: Main Skeet Club- 7 miles Southwest on US 90. I misunderstood and thought that shooting range was located at South Main and Willowbend. Looks like I have them switched? Different decades. The one at the "end of willowbend" is from the 1960s.
  16. I was looking at old aerial photography and noticed a gun range formation near the intersection of South Post Oak Road and South Main Street. Closer towards Gasmer and S. Post Oak I guess. The gun club was located across the street from a supposed race track. I assume these two places were operated as a singe sports club. Anyone know the name of either the gun club or race track? 1944: 1953 includes an oval race track on the opposite side of S. Post Oak.
  17. I was browsing the newspaper The Bellaire Texan dated August 1976 and came across this advertisement for Jim's Coffee Shop located at 6403 Hillcroft Street. What a cool vintage ad! Wasn't Jim's Coffee Shop a local chain? Other locations included Willowbend and Westbury? What's up with the business hours? That's an all day restaurant! Now Open Jim's Coffee Shop - 6403 Hillcroft at Westward. "Family Restaurants" Hours: Sun.-Thur. - 6:00a.m. - 12:00 midnight Fri. - 6:00a.m.- 1:00a.m. Sat. - 6:00a.m. - 2:00a.m.
  18. I was browsing the newspaper The Bellaire Texan dated in 1967 that featured an advertisement for the restaurant Topper's Steakhouse located at 8600 Hillcroft Street. Does anyone recall this place? Does the Meyerland Martial Arts Center that stands here occupies the same building at the former restaurant? Hard to tell. The new Topper's Steak House is now open for business at 8600 Hillcroft. The new restaurant features top sirloin steak for $1.39 and is owned and operated by JACO Enterprises, Inc. The new restaurant will operate on the meat and potatoes principal and is open seven days a week from 11 a.m. Until 9 p.m.
