  1. What's everyone's thoughts about the check-in security at hospitals in the TMC? I visited a patient at the St. Luke's Tower today and I just walked in to see the patient without any identification check or bag scan. Obviously different hospitals and floors have different security levels, but I'm not sure if a guy in a back pack can freely walk onto the the floor without some sort of verification/picture. When visiting The Menninger Clinic it is a whole different process. TMC hospitals should be the same type of security? My friend works at Anderson and they are amazed there isn't any type of bag-check before getting onto the floor.
  2. Anyone want to start a conversation about the presence of fast food in our world class hospitals? I walked into the St. Luke's Patient Tower today and saw a McDonald's stationed, literally in the middle of the hospital. Shouldn't we want to appeal to the healthier side of food since it's located within a hospital? Studies have shown eating fast food is bad for you and can lead to obesity and other health complications. Maybe instead of fast food there should be a small deli serving sandwiches, salads, burgers, soups, etc. Of all things present in our world class hospital district we have a McDonald's front and center. About a decade ago, there was a local protest regarding fast food in our hospitals. I searched and couldn't find the thread. Maybe it was too taboo to discuss? My friends work at Anderson and they have a Chickfila there. It's always packed with people. MDACC also has a cafeteria with lots of good food though. The sign outside of the McDonald's at the St. Luke's Patient Tower says: The Auxiliary to Texas Children's Hospital will share in the proceeds from this Restaurant, thanks to the generosity of McDonald's Corporation. Dedicated 1995
  3. I discovered a cool Bio Technology company located near my neighborhood. The business is called Biotex, Inc. and here's a small blurb about their company: Biotex is a premier product development accelerator for new medical technology. In addition to our own product portfolio, we partner with entrepreneurs and early stage companies to provide product development, intellectual property guidance, regulatory strategy, and commercial manufacturing. Our team of designers and engineers transform ideas into incredible products that look and work fantastic! Biotex has secured over $15 million in federal and private grants to create a pipeline of exciting products, two of which were successfully commercialized through spin-off companies (Visualase, Inc. – recently acquired by Medtronic, and Base Pair BioTechnologies) and others which were licensed for commercialization by others. Today, we continue to innovate and partner with others to develop new and exciting medtech products. https://www.biotexmedical.com/ That area south of the TMC Hospital Campus has so much BioTech/Medical Manufacturing it's wild. All around Kirby, Fannin, West Bellfort, Willowbend, Buffalo Speedway, Holmes, etc.
