  1. It looks like Camden Securities Company has bought a bunch of Fidelis properties. I am seeing these properties that have recently changed hands. Fairway Center River Oaks Plaza Uptown Collection Retail Center West University Marketplace I wonder if Fidelis is having a hard time these days?
  2. This shopping center will be demolished soon. It may happen in 5 years down the line? Figured I would create the thread now.
  3. The West End located at 5320 Westheimer Road is on today's demo report issued by Cherry.
  4. This week at TMC Helix Park. wow!! Love the trees surrounding Parcel J! One Discovery Way: Unknown Street (Between Catalyst and Dynamic streets): Helix Park: Dynamic Street: Two Discovery Way: Parcel J: Mixed-Use Garage: Collaborative Building:
  5. This week's update. Looks like their building a retaining wall for the underground parking?
  6. Levit Green Boulevard progress. This week, you can see the added blue PVC piping. Trees have arrived and been planted! Sidewalks around the office building and parking garage! The area was in desperate need of new sidewalks and general area cleanup. This is great to see!!
  7. Looking forward to the new pay stations. The current pay stations have been slightly disabled where you must pay inside. Good example of bring your ticket with you to pay!
  8. Toronto's high-rise building scene is one of the best in the world. I prefer their designs and developments over NYC and Chicago. Kinda reminds me of Sydney, Melbourne, and Brisbane skylines. Maldive over at SSP keeps the native Toronto Highrise Development thread very active. The buildings proposed and under construction are stunning. Wish Houston (Uptown/TMC) would build like this.
  9. I was browsing the newspaper The Bellaire Texan dated October 1, 1958 and came across a Grand Opening ad for the Willowbend Gulf Service located at 4201 Willowbend Blvd. Willowbend Blvd at Greenwillow. Looks like an awesome grand opening celebration. Clowns, candy, balloons, drinks, prizes, etc. Owner-Manager: Chris Christoffel I assume the old service station is where the present-day broken down shack is by the train tracks? That would be closer to Willowbend & Craighead. The gas station is said to be at Willowbend & Greenwillow. Where those 3-story town homes are. The address, 4201 Willowbend, puts this in the middle of the NRG utility field. Present-Day shack. Looks like it could have been a service station with having those 2 garages and that covered fill-up area. Edit: The shack has an address of 4125 Willowbend. Not sure if they are related anymore.
  10. Today I was driving randomly in my neighborhood and decided go to check out Holmes Road. I came across an open gate so I went to check things out. What's up with the hill/mountain? I know Pierce Junction had Salt Domes, but I don't think the domes raised above ground. Is this buried trash from the Holmes Road Waste Dump? Very weird formation, just a mile away from residential areas. I found a concrete pad and what appeared to be the remembrance of a loading dock area. There were also two upright concrete structures. Looking on Google Satellite, they gave me an address of 450 Holmes Road for the (now demolished) building. Leaving only the concrete pad behind. My question is, what used to be here? I bet something industrial given the area. The area was flagged and marked. However, this could be many, many years old.
  11. I still have one street variation in my neighborhood. We have "Old Main Street Loop Road". Although, on the side of Highway 90 (South Main) there is a directional street sign posted saying Old Main Street - East and Old Main Street - West. The sign forgoes the "Loop" part of the name. The actual street near the sign is called Old Main Street Loop Road. OMSLR and Willowbend: OMSLR and Craighead:
  12. Stopped by today while driving randomly around the neighborhood. Cell phone camera, pardon the lower quality of zoom.
  13. I was bored today so I drove around the neighborhood looking for cool businesses a long Old Main Street Loop Road. I never knew Pro-Mark was founded by the Brochstein family! Their headquarters is very, very close to the Pro-Mark warehouse (and factory?). Ironically close. Looks like they're doing a small remodel. Construction trailer and dumpster.
  14. I found some information (and a picture!) of Harry Holmes. I do see this guy is called HH Junior. I wonder if Harry Holmes, Senior was also famous and involved with the city? Was Harry Holmes, Sr. the guy responsible for developing Sunnyside? While Harry Holmes, Jr. was the City of Houston councilman? A March 8, 1948 City of Houston letter regarding licensing for Cadillac Bar and Club at 1016 Houston Ave. You can see the letterhead on the top right corner specifying the Houston councilmen. District position 3 is Harry Holmes, Jr. Harry Holmes was an advocate for a Kirby Drive repavement project. Here's another 1948 article about him and the Kirby project.
  15. That looks amazing!! Great job team— The fresh paint with the brand new and shiny building signage. I’ve been hoping to see this for a while..
  16. I don't think we have a thread for the St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church located at 5308 Buffalo Speedway. How long has the church been there? I'm sure they'd been there for 40+ years? Anyone ever attend service here? This is located at Buffalo Speedway & Bissonnet near the HEB.
  17. I was browsing EBay for historical Houston items and I came across this matchbook that showcased the North Shepherd Bowling Lanes located at 650 Westcross Street. Did anyone ever bowl here? Any photos or memories to share? Is there a time frame for this bowling alley? I can imagine the 1960s?
  18. Interesting. This large parcel of land for sale that's located on Holmes road near Buffalo Speedway has the same contact phone number listed as TMC's new BioPort Campus. The same phone number is 832-867-6380. This falls outside of the BioPort Campus, no? I wonder if this is additional land for some reason? I also noticed when you click the original Loopnet link, it does not take you to the 700 Holmes Road listing, but to a listing for 9 parcel lots for a total of 115-acres. https://www.loopnet.com/Listing/700-Holmes-Rd-Houston-TX/8791075/ The 113-Acres for sale at 700 Holmes Road, seemed to have been split up into 9 parcels and then recreated as a separate Looopnet link. See below. https://www.loopnet.com/Listing/Holmes-Rd-and-Buffalo-Speedway-Houston-TX/8791075/ Google Maps is so advanced that you can see remembrance of an old road layout. Highlighted the road path in grey. Labeled as Concrete Construction of Houston, but it's a storage facility for large 18-wheeler trucks. You can see the known TMC BioPort Campus land on the bottom right. This maybe included.
  19. I was reading the newspaper The Rice Thresher dated February 14, 1980 and came across a grand opening (now open) business ad for Gabby's Bar-B-Q & Hamburgers located at 9401 South Main St. I searched HAIF and found a few mentions of Gabby's BBQ but nobody mentioned their South Main location. I wonder if it's one of their later locations? Who was the owner of this restaurant chain? Was it based in Houston? Did anyone eat here? Any memories of this place? Do tell! Looks like this the current place of Taquerias Arandas?
  20. Just how long has Waukesha-Pearce Industries (WPI) been at the corner of South Post Oak and South Main? They've been there since the 1940s, right? Very cool sight, driving down South Post Oak to see a bunch of heavy construction equipment. I just did a (very) quick search and WPI has been around since 1924. wow!! Were they always at this corner? What other locations did they have? https://www.wpi.com/
  21. Does anyone know the operating dates of the Holmes Road Waste Incinerator that was on Holmes Road in Sunnyside? Picture I found while searching is below. I do know that something, after years and years, will be benefiting this site. A proposed (now underway?) solar farm is proposed here. That would be such an awesome transformation! According to a City of Houston remediation report, the address is 3100 Bellfort Ave. which is near Holmes Road. I am not sure if that's the sole address to the complex. There might be multiple addresses?
  22. Does anyone know the operating dates of the Browning-Ferris Industries (BFI) Waste Dump that was on Holmes Road at Buffalo Speedway? We turned a closed landfill into a functioning golf course by excavating new and existing borrow pits and then placing the earthen material over the landfill to create an unique recreational experience, leveraging our special expertise to safely complete this golf course overlooking Reliant Stadium and downtown Houston. http://www.lexinc.com/work/pierce-junction-encap-golf-course-reconstruction-wildcat-golf-club/
