  1. I was looking for old skating rinks in the Houston area and found a Facebook group of people who used to visit this place. When did the Carousel Skating Rink located at 9190 Old Katy Rd. open? When did the skating rink close? Any memories here? I assueme this was in the 1970s? The Facebook group had a lot more pictures if anyone wants to see more..
  2. McGovern Historical Center posted a make a gift statement. In that image there is a never seen before tower next to the Texas Medical Center Library at 1133 John Freeman Blvd. Very cool! Anyone have more information on the proposal?
  3. The Bowery On Montrose was never built. I really liked the architectural design on this building. I wonder if they could re-use the architectural design for another multifamily building in a different part of the city? Rendering for the (now cancelled) never built project. Oddly enough, the project is still active, and displayed, on the developer's website (as of 10/05/2022) https://farbhomes.com/apartmenthomes/montrose/
  4. 5 additional trailers have arrived at the site. What’s exactly happening here? Why so many trailers?
  5. Rear surface lot: Site of the proposed 8 story garage? This is where the Linbeck trailer is:
  6. This weekend I drove down Buffalo Speedway to take a photo of all the different For Sale signs that were posted a long the street. Definitely looks like the majority of them were from the same company. I saw the same phone number on the signs: 832-867-6380. Bonus: The sign for UT's land when the Kirksey's owned it before UT got involved.
  7. I was browsing Southwestern Times magazine dated January 13, 1949 and came across this business listing for Courteous Cab Co. located at Bellaire (now Holcombe) and South Main. Looks like the owner, or driver was Justin Phone Number - 8-5155. Very cool! Anyone, on the slight, know about this place? I wonder the chance of our HAIF members using, or hearing, about this cab company. That corner of Main & Holcombe is very, very famous. I'm glad TAMU made a statement there. Only if we could develop the opposite corner with the Burger King and Pizza Hut.
  8. I was browsing Southwestern Times dated May 17, 1945 and noticed a business ad for Wingate's Mexican Restaurant located at 6641 South Main St. Anyone ever eat here? Any pictures, or postcards of the restaurant? What shopping center was it in? Was there a particular shopping center developer in the 1940s.
  9. While browsing the The Bellaire Texan magazine dated April 3, 1957 I found a business ad for Whitehill Stables at 5418 Dashwood Dr. "One block off Chimney Rock Road Behind Chimney Rock Nursery" Recently under new management, Whitehill Stables & School of Riding (formally the Bellaire Stables.) 10. I was browsing The Bellaire & Southwestern Texan dated May 7, 1969 and came across this business ad for 1500 Club located at 10230 South Post Oak At Bellfort. The magazine had a ton of their ads, maybe a total of 10. Sounds like a wild and crazy place. Did anyone ever go there during the 1960's? Any stories or pictures to share? This was before the MacRobert Chevrolet Dealership and Belden's Supermarket? Or was 1500 Club located on opposite side of the freeway?

  13. Coming soon!!! Chevron Star Stop- Car Wash, Taqueria, and Washateria located on the corner of Buffalo Speedway and West Airport Blvd. It's possible TMC bought the land for their TMC BioPort campus. We will see if the Chevron gets built anytime soon. I was joking the intersection should build an Exxon to complete the trifecta of Shell, Chevron, and Exxon. I wonder who HAIF prefers
  14. The Shell Star Stop gas station at the corner of Buffalo Speedway & West Airport Blvd. was built in only 6 months. The developer had to clear vacant forest land to build. There is a planned Chevron across the street. They are pulling a South Post Oak & Willowbend. Maybe they can add an Exxon on the other corner (for sale listed by JLL) which would replicate the SPO & Willowbend intersection. Anyway, if things go as planned. This intersection will be booming with activity in a few years. The TMC BioPort Campus is located here. Picture I took a few days ago.
  15. I was browsing The Bellaire & Southwestern Texan dated September 30, 1970 and came across a business listing for Sears located at 10431 South Post Oak Rd. Very cool! I never knew about this. I heard it was a smaller satellite store. I assume this was located in the retail strip center where Cue's Burgers is. Any pictures of the building? Was the store in a strip center or was it an actual building which has since been demolished? Edit: R.I. McLemore was the store manager.
  16. I was browsing The Thresher dated October 24, 1930 and came across a business listing for Dixie Golf Course located at 6105 South Main Blvd. "Just across the street from the South Gate." Was this apart of the Hermann Park Golf Course? Very cool find! Was South Main really a boulevard back in the 1930s or was this a typo? I believe the TMC area was actually called Uptown as well.

I was browsing The Citizen dated November 14, 1947 and came across a business listing for Underwood and Ezell Drive In Theatres - The Main Drive In located at 9900 South Main St. and Winkler Drive In located at 205 Wrinkler Dr. A little confused. I thought the South Main Drive-In Theater was located at 11510 South Main St. You also had the McClendon Triple Drive-In Theater located At 11991 South Main St. Was this an earlier location of the South Main Drive-In Theater? Pretty cool find!

I heard Bert Wheeler owned a lot of land near the Astrodome/South Main/Meyerland area. He used to have a club at his mansion, I think.
