  1. I was browsing the The Rice Thresher magazine dated November 14, 1974 and saw this business listing for DeVito's Po Boys located at 6800 Main at Holcombe. Anyone ever eat here?
  2. I was browsing the The Southwest Citizen magazine dated December 3, 1964 and noticed this business listing for Chuc Wagun Hamburgers located at 5210 Kirby Dr. Anyone ever eat here? Why did the Chuc Wagun brand go out of business? Merged with a bigger company?
  3. I remember Swamplot's report about this place. It's near Holmes & Almeda road in Pierce Junction. Bayou City Event Center Pavilion will occupy 11 acres at 9500 Almeda in a primarily industrial area. Mandola says the site is near his customer base ā€” the Texas Medical Center, Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, Rice University and University of Houston. http://swamplot.com/pierce-junction-barbecue-camp/2009-07-31/ MD Anderson had their annual Leadership Institute meeting here on Friday. I got some MDACC swag
  4. Is it just me or did all the Houston South Main Street signs get changed to simply say Main Street instead? Iā€™m pretty sure I saw the remembrance of a ā€œS.ā€ on the green street signs. Maybe even Google Maps has switched to recognizing Main Street, instead of South Main Street. Thought I noticed that recently.
  5. Anyone else notice the conversion of the abandoned Texaco gas station to a sparkly Shell station? Looks 1,000 times better. Plus you have a new Chikfila going up across the street. This corner is starting to get refreshed. Maybe, but not likely, the Kroger could be redeveloped into multifamily with grocery on the ground level. The medical center could use more housing.
  6. Anyone know what's happening here? Why was it built and then abandoned? It's a beautiful gas station. If the owner is no longer involved for whatever reason, you would think it would be listed for sale.
  7. From all the knowledge we have, the jenga-style office tower was to be built first. There was marketing materials prepared and Loopnet specified built in 2023. @Geoff8201 mentioned the residential tower was scaled down from the original proposal. Apart of their information was from Emporis which often had wrong information, which sometimes originated from HAIF to begin with. The only concrete information we have is what is featured on Transwestern Development Company's website. It still lists the 30+ story residential tower. The website might be outdated by several years so the apartment could have gotten redesigned and shorter. https://transwesterndevelopment.com/projects.html We will know the scope of work once it's registered with TDLR. A plan review was submitted to the city, so a state application should be within a week or two. I did ask someone at Transwestern. Waiting to hear back
  8. A Plan Review Fee permit was pulled yesterday for a new apartment. Lets go!!
  9. Anyone else notice that this may not be located where UT is selling their 307 acres? The BioPort campus might actually be located on Buffalo Speedway, in between Holmes Road and W. Airport Blvd. This would also explain the circular roundabout featured in the concept rendering. The roundabout is located about halfway to W. Airport on Buffalo Speedway. Screenshot from the State of Texas Medical Center 2022:
  10. Facility Name: Health Sciences Parking Garage Location Address: 1920 Wyndale Street Start Date: 3/1/2023 Estimated Cost: $30,600,000 Scope of Work: Construct a new 8 story parking garage with 821 total spaces (17 accessible) to serve a future Health Sciences Building as well as the existing Jamail Specialty Care Center on the site. Project also includes a shipping and receiving facility for the. Square Footage: 310,000 ft 2 Design Firm Name: The SLAM Collaborative Edit: This is not apart of the McNair Campus surface lot that is currently under construction? 1920 Wyndale looks like the patch of grass where the Linbeck trailer has been for a few years. Also, the future Health Sciences Building is a separate building from the brand new, about to open, Dan L Duncan Comprehensive Cancer Center? Awesome!!
  11. Is this the future home of the TMC BioPort Campus? Three things are adding up here. The total land size of 500 acres. The area is the same as the TMC-Released site plan. The (proposed, then developed) circular roundabout in this development is featured in the TMC-Released concept rendering.
  12. Metro eases into land development, aiming to connect transit, housing and jobs Sep. 26, 2022 https://www.houstonchronicle.com/news/houston-texas/transportation/article/Metro-easing-into-land-speculating-in-hopes-of-17451606.php Metro already is sitting on very desirable land in the medical center. Located across Fannin from MD Anderson Cancer Center and across Pressler from UT Healthā€™s health science center, the transit center has drawn interest for major projects, all willing to maintain its bus access. When approached in 2018 with an unsolicited offer that later drew a competing proposal, however, Metro opted to keep things as they were because neither project, officials concluded, would improve transit access for existing riders. Instead, both projects had the potential to encourage hundreds of daily vehicle trips into the crowded medical center. ā€œAlthough both proposals provided estimated revenue streams and various amenities, the potential issues related to the customer experience was the overriding factor in the decision to not move forward with this solicitationā€ Metro staff wrote in a summary to cancel the discussions. 14. Here's the skyline views from the Buffalo Speedway/Holmes Road bridge. Very good views!! Hopefully there will be a mid-rise or a high-rise involved with this development so they can see the skyline views of the TMC and Uptown. Pardon the dirty lens, still trying to figure that out.
  15. I was browsing The Southwestern Citizen magazine dated April 13, 1962 and noticed a business ad for Lamar Lanes located at at 2727 Timmons at 3600 Block of Westheimer. "Where Intramural Bowling Is Held" Did anyone ever go here?
  16. I know there was an address change for this restaurant. I also believe there was an ownership/management shift as well. George Dentler's Pier 21 had a location at 7001 Old Main Street Rd. and then the address changed to 7001 Fannin St. While browsing Ebay I noticed something new. At one time the restaurant was named Jack Landers Pier 21. What exactly was Jack Landers involvement? He was the first owner? Pier 21 "World's Finest Seafood". Also, didn't Captain Benny's Oyster Bar also have a boat in their restaurant? Who was first to involve a boat as their restaurant?
  17. I was just reading Rice University's The Thresher magazine dated January 11, 1945 and came across this business advertisement. Arthur Long (Formerly manager of the Plantation) Invites you to be his guest at the Halong Club - 8100 South Main Street (Opposite Prince's) New Oak Dance Floor - The finest music - now featuring Jack Rodman & His Orchestra 8100 South Main has a history of being a dance/music club. It was right where South Main splits with Old Spanish Trl, the Y configuration. - Halong Club - Hitching Post Club - Texas Corral (Palladium Club) Also, Arthur Long was a former manager of Plantation Club. Where exactly is that club? I thought I read it was located in an outside tent? HAIF has the addresses of 9101 South Main and another at 10200 South Main. I thought it was closer to the 7000 block of South Main?
  18. With the BioTech explosion happening in Houston right now I figured I would create a thread for the random updates with the latest news and happenings in the industry. I believe a year ago we were listed around the 7th emerging BioTech cluster. Last month I read a report that said we are the 2nd largest emerging cluster. Now, since the TMC BioPart development was made public, I wonder if that 500-acres and 100,000 jobs make us the largest emerging BioTech cluster. Looking forward to the future market reports.
