  1. Aerial view of Rice Campus from Medical Center area, Hermann Hospital in the foreground, Autry House to right. https://scholarship.rice.edu/handle/1911/71161 Date: ca. 1930s It's just so wild! The Texas Medical Center just grew, and kept on growing, and growing.
  2. Looking at The Bellaire Texan magazine dated July 8, 1964 and saw a few advertisements for Spring Branch Stables. Wild West Rodeo Saturday 8:00 P.M. Spring Branch Stables Rodeo Arena At 1961 Ojeman Road (One block west of Bingle Rd. off Long Point Rd.)
  3. Looking at The Bellaire Texan magazine dated July 8, 1964 and saw a few advertisements for Tidelands Marine Center located at 7414 Ashcroft St. / 6100 Bissonet St. I like the play on the famous TMC hotel Tidelands. Same family?
  4. I keep on seeing this Knight Road Loopnet listing so I decided to look on Google Satellite to see the industrial campus. I never knew this was here to be honest. I guess Stream Realty, or Stream Industrial is handling the leasing? Looks to be a total of 9 buildings situated between Knight Road & Almeda Road. I also see all that forest land. Some day that will be developed! Loopnet listing: https://www.loopnet.com/Listing/9051-9087-Knight-Rd-Houston-TX/11737768/
  5. A little lesser known bayou in Houston called Willow Waterhole Bayou. Information here: https://www.willowwaterhole.org/flood-control-wwbayou-increased-flooding Willow Waterhole Bayou is a narrow 4-mile-long natural tributary of Brays Bayou. It flows through Houston’s Brays Oaks area—once oil tycoon Walter Fondren's ranch—and Westbury neighborhoods. In the 1940s, when the ranch land was being developed, portions of the original stream bed were rerouted. Today the bayou emerges southeast of the intersection of W. Bellfort Blvd. and Fondren Rd. and eventually flows northeast from Braewick Dr. through the Westbury and Willow Meadows neighborhoods. The bayou, Scout Lake, its weir (similar to a spillway), and the culvert connecting the lake to the basin complex can all be seen at the end of the 500-foot-long Bayou Trail, which begins at the left of The Gathering Place on S. Willow Dr.
  6. Some type of soil sampling was taking place in the surface lot of the NRG Arena at 1 NRG Parkway.
  7. This has broken ground. Whatever it is. There would have been major press if it was a $100 million dollar hospital. We would also have renderings by now. Is there such a thing as a surprise "game changer"?
  8. I understand the historical significance. However, isn't it about time to demolish and build something taller, more advanced? TMC hospitals that I want to see demolished and rebuilt: City of Houston Department of Health and Human Services at 1115 S. Braeswood Blvd. Houston Methodist Main Building at 6565 Fannin St. Kindred Hospital at 6441 Main St. MD Anderson Radiology Outpatient Center at 1700 Holcombe Blvd. Memorial Hermann Robertson Pavilion at 6411 Fannin St. St. Luke’s Episcopal Hospital at 6720 Bertner Ave. University of Houston College of Pharmacy at 1441 Moursound St. (Also the SureStay Plus Hotel By Best Western at 6700 Main St.)
  9. The Medical Center RV Resort is now active with families. If they are indeed visiting for medical tourism I hope they are getting great treatment here!
  10. Noticed the widening of the dirt road a long with a new fence and CenterPoint sign. What's the deal with the independent horse stables way down there? Thought I read years ago that there was a lease agreement between the original landowners and CenterPoint Energy. The family was able to keep their horses on a patch of the land. Is there a name for the stables? I looked on satellite, to find a oval track and a few old buildings/shacks. The oval track is to give the horses exercise? Didn't think there was a racing track here?
  11. Today I noticed a TMC campus called H. Markley Crosswell, Jr. Campus located at 1907 Holcombe Blvd. The campus consists of two buildings. Houston Hospice at 1905 Holcombe, and Ronald McDonald House Houston at 1907 Holcombe. I admit, I'm not sure who H. Markley Crosswell, Jr. is. I need to read up on what he did for the TMC.
  12. I forgot the date to this business ad I found. I believe it was the 1940s/1950s. S.M. Griffis Company located at 5624 Buffalo Speedway. "For prompt, careful, efficient handling, list your real estate for sale with us today. There is a ready market for residential properties right now. "
  13. The Holmes Road reconstruction from Main Street to Kirby Drive. This one is taking for ever! I did notice the street sidewalks are extra wide. There are also newly paved driveways into the Holmes Road parcels of land. It's looking very nice. The sidewalks are a dream. I believe the street will also get new street lights and utility poles.
  14. The above circled Buffalo Speedway parcel is under contract. There has been some activity here as well. The TMC might have just bought the land. Looks like I'll need to merge threads. This is a repost?

  17. I was browsing Rice University's The Thresher magazine dated April 18, 1968 and noticed a business ad for Rodriguez Barber Shop located at 1012 Lyndon at Fannin; about a block from where the Oilers practice.
