  1. Noticed a business ad in a September 7, 1984 magazine. Pizza Inn was located at 7919 Greenbriar St at Old Spanish Trail which appears to be a modern day TCH surface lot. I'm sure it's noted somewhere on HAIF. What's the story with Pizza Inn? Didn't they merge into a bigger, more famous company? Other locations of Pizza Inn: Pizza Inn At 2314 W. Holcombe Blvd. Pizza Inn At 4038 Braeswood Blvd. Pizza Inn At 7919 Greenbriar St.
  2. I always hear good things about medicine, and drugs helping sick people. I remember when doctors started to use ketamine to treat crippling depression. I've read that using psilocybins such as LSD or mushrooms also has a therapeutic effect on people suffering from generalized anxiety disorder. For a while now, we have heard cannabis is an alternative to pain medicine to cancer patients. There's a new Netflix series called How to Change Your Mind so it got me thinking. I wasn't sure if HAIF had such a thread. Might be a controversial topic, but we are the city of medicine. I do believe we should research illicit drugs and see how they interact with the human body. Medical research. https://www.netflix.com/title/80229847 Author Michael Pollan leads the way in this docuseries exploring the history and uses of psychedelics, including LSD, psilocybin, MDMA and mescaline.
  3. I noticed these two old business ads for Arnold Palmer Putting Course located at4995 W. Bellfort Ave. I thought another golf course was located here called Gooney Golf. Maybe just rebranded? September 23, 1965 October 14, 1965
  4. I noticed these two old restaurant ads for Venetian Village, Real Italian Food. Did anyone ever eat here? Any memories or pictures? December 2, 1965 April 18, 1968
  5. Another 100 acres on Holmes Road near Buffalo Speedway. Did the TMC buy this large parcel?
  6. @ChannelTwoNews and @Rossmentioned this site today, as the H.O. Clarke Generating Station. I wonder if there was a different plant here that was demolished and rebuilt as you currently see. I saw a partial demolition back in 2019. There is major construction right here. I really need to drive by and take a picture.
  7. I forgot where exactly I read this, but there is a planned sky bridge from 1MC over Brays Bayou into their North Campus. I just cannot figure where they would place a sky bridge as TECO's power plant is across the bayou. Didn't we see some TMC3 renderings with the helix park extending over the bayou? Probably unrelated. Project Name: Brays Bayou Sky Bridge 1MC to North Campus Estimate Start Date: 7/2024 Total Cost: $30,000,000
  8. According to the MD Anderson Master Framework 2030 - Bridging Strategy dated 1.28.2022 this building is planned be demolished and replaced. A proposed Faculty Office Tower with connection over Fannin to 3ACB. They are labeling it FHB.
  9. KMD Architects and FKP Architects created a MD Anderson South of Holcombe Campus Master Plan. The master plan features 4 buildings and 1 parking garage. I believe the master plan is old? I haven't seen a rendering of the new layout and 2/3 Ambulatory Clinical Buildings. It would be great if Elkus Manfredi did the master plan. Elkus Manfredi really took off with our medical center. They have done 5 major TMC project this year. TMC Helix Park, MD Anderson SCRB 5, TMC BioPort, TMC Innovation Factory, and finally the proposed Bayou Tech Hub that fell through. I look forward to seeing the new master plan! Here is the current stacking plan for 2/3 ACB. Very tall buildings. Will definitely make a statement for people riding the METRO Red Line!
  10. Master Framework 2030 - Bridging Strategy dated 1.28.2022. MD Anderson is focusing on a new campus called South of Holcombe. It will be a total of 4 buildings (+1 garage). They are shifting out of the North Campus and creating a formal South of Holcombe Campus. I wonder if this shift is preparing for the planned dual Patient Towers? The 2 and 3 Ambulatory Clinical Buildings are being designed for future vertical expansion! Will reach a total of 25 floors!! The next 10 years of the TMC is going to be wild!!

  12. I saw this business listing in a Rice University The Thresher magazine dated May 25, 1944. The Recreation Bowling Alley was located at 6445 South Main St. Phil Munn. was the manger. Right across from Rice. Very cool! Edit: Here's an ad from October 6, 1948 that includes the address.
  13. Found this ad in the January 4, 1984 issue of The Southwest Citizen. I didn't even know Christie's Restaurant had a location at 3512 South Main St. Here's the other locations that I know of. I wonder if there are any store numbers? I see the 9200 was the latest addition in January 1984. The ad says "Since 1917". I wonder their original location? Christie's Restaurant At 5911 Bellaire Blvd. Christie's Restaurant At 3512 South Main St. Christie's Restaurant At 6703 South Main St. Christie's Restaurant At 9200 South Main St. Christie's Restaurant At 6029 Westheimer Rd.
  14. Found this ad in the October 3, 1947 issue of The Southwest Citizen. Very cool to see Glenn McCarthy's business. I believe he actually had several companies.
  15. Found this bit of history on the Rice Digital Scholarship Archives. Dated 1923. Very cool!!
  16. Anyone have experience with this mom and pop self storage? I believe the MC Management family developed this. I wonder how this differs from the big self storage companies in town. Website: https://www.meyerparkstorage.com/
  17. 6-story medical office building by Munoz + Albin. https://www.cbre.com/offices/corporate/houston/houston-property-search/details/US-SMPL-55603/spring-valley-medical-plaza-ii-9210-katy-freeway-houston-tx-77055?view=isLetting%2CisSale
  18. Here is where I found the original information. I am not sure of the validity. Anyone know when the power plant near S. Post Oak and S. Main was demolished and removed? If you look in google maps the exact space of the power plant is still there. Nothing has been built on the site; an empty pad exists. Was there contamination in the soil? A new residential area is built to the south and to the NE there is Houston sports complex. https://www.houstonarchitecture.com/haif/topic/48604-power-plant-at-s-post-oak-rd-south-main-st/#comment-321378
  19. The TMC now has a commercial website! It focuses on showing off their 4 campuses. The new website features a 4-minute video of a TMC3 animation that we've never seen before. I'll post a bunch of new renderings from the video. The aggressive facades are just beautiful. A dream!! Really amazing stuff here. https://texasmedicalcenter.com/
  20. This is the long strip center that houses the Foodarama grocery store. We didn't have a thread so I thought I could start one and gain information about the place. I'm not sure who owns the retail center or who is in charge of leasing. They don't have any signs that states that information. Other prominent tenants are EZ Pawn, Little Caesars, and Walgreens.
  21. Thanks Ross!! Would you be suggesting that the new TMC BioPort will not be located on UT's Buffalo Speedway property? Or possibly, in addition to the UT land?
  22. I did not know the Weitzman Group owned this old retail strip center. That is awesome! This little retail center is located on the corner of Willowbend Blvd. at South Post Oak rd. Home to the famous Annie's Hamburgers. Property flyer with site plan:
  23. I was browsing around the University of Houston Libraries and noticed this interesting series page. https://findingaids.lib.uh.edu/repositories/2/archival_objects/624 This group of materials relates to Burdette Keeland's architectural practice and is comprised of project files, clippings, sketches, and some photographs. Holmes-Willowbend Shops, 1961. What's this exactly? There was small retail stores on Holmes road in the 1960s? The area is an industrial part of town. Maybe the shops were related such as a tool or machinery shop? I know there (was) a small retail center on Willowbend Blvd. next to the train tracks. The center was torn down to make way for an Intown Homes townhome project. Perhaps Burdette Keeland designed the strip center?
