  1. This is another Willowbend/South Main industrial warehouse development. I can see it contains some lab space with the company AccessDx Laboratory. Loopnet lists this with a weird address of 11504 Willow Trl, Houston, TX 77035. The street leasing signage indicates it's a project of PMRG (now Madison Marquette) but I thought another company was involved? Obviously the signage is old considering PMRG no longer exists. https://www.loopnet.com/property/11504-willow-trl-houston-tx-77035/48201-0420150000085/
  2. I'm trying to find a name, or a leasing company for the shopping center on South Main bounded by Buffalo Speedway and Westridge Street. I looked on Google satellite, at the shopping center's street frontage signs and could not find either a name of the shopping center, or a leasing contact. Who is in charge of leasing? I would assume they would want to advertise themselves. Some of the notable, long term tenants are Carrington's Sports Bar, Conn's Home Plus, SuitMart, ACE Cash Express, Dollar Tree, and Family Dollar. There are three stand a lone restaurants on the outskirts of the property. Carl's Jr. , Taquerias Arandas, and Dunkin' Donuts. The address for the large shopping center, well of Carrington's, is 9585 South Main Street. This is a very large retail parcel on South Main. As time goes by, I can only imagine it being redeveloped into something to include more density. Maybe a mixed-use district with affordable housing, class-b office space, a small retail strip center, and a park? In 20 - 50 years a single story shopping center will not work here. They will need to build taller to meet demand.
  3. I was looking on Loopnet this morning at the retail property located at South Main at South Post Oak (12309-12367 South Main Street). It is owned/managed by Tarantino Properties and is anchored by a Fiesta grocery store. Another notable tenant is The Power Center, which I believe was named after an old power plant that sat at this site before redevelopment? Anyone have any knowledge about the previous power plant? I was reading old local magazines yesterday and noticed an article about "New Plastics Plant Planned In Section". It stated "Construction will begin soon on a $1,00,000 plastics plant at the intersection of Post Oak Road and the S.A. and A.P. railroad tracks, just north of the Bellaire city limits. Designed as a 16-acre site, the plant will house the Wright Manufacturing Company. " This sounds like it would be across the train tracks (and Highway 90) which is the location of the South Main Shopping Center. I did some further reading and it seems that the Wright Manufacturing Company had their (rubber) manufacturing plant at 5208 Post Oak Road, which is the current site of the Meyer Park Shopping Center. Did they have two manufacturing plants just miles apart or is the historical data I read incorrect? I wonder if this shopping center will ever be redeveloped into higher density? Affordable mid-rise apartments with ground floor retail? 4. Did the TMC purchase this land? I've heard that the TMC BioPort has land still under contract, which this land is. However, the total 115-acres is separated into different parcels along the way- not concentrated as a whole, continuous, piece of land. I'm not sure how this would benefit them, unless they also buy the surrounding parcels to adjoin as one.
  5. I am interested in the purchase price. Not sure if we will ever know that information. In 2017, the 307 acres was valued at $232, 867, 800 More info on the 307 acres (my posting from a few years ago.)
  6. There was an RFI for the 80-acres UT still controlled back in 2019. RFI No.: 720-1930 Request for Information - Ground Lease and/or Joint Development of approximately 80 Acres of Land west of Buffalo Speedway and bisected by Willowbend Boulevard, Houston, Texas. The recent HBJ article mentioned the Texas Medical Center had partners. Did the UT System and TMC go into a partnership for a joint development? I also remember hearing Fertitta was opened to a joint development. The UT land is, in total, 307 acres. Did the TMC purchase more land on Buffalo Speedway/Holmes Road? I know there are several large tracts for sale out there.
  7. The concept rendering resembles the parcel shape of the old UT Research Campus proposal. I believe I can also see that little lake, or bayou in the concept rendering. If that's indeed a body of water then that would be confirmation it's the same property.
  8. Concept rendering was tweeted by the TMC account. This definitely looks like the road configuration of Willowbend Blvd near Buffalo Speedway. wow!!
  9. TMC CEO unveils Plans for Growth of Texas Medical Center as a Leading Life Science Corridor https://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20220920006149/en/TMC-CEO-unveils-Plans-for-Growth-of-Texas-Medical-Center-as-a-Leading-Life-Science-Corridor With a vision to become the world’s most comprehensive life science ecosystem, TMC is anchored by four districts – the TMC Medical Campus, TMC Innovation Factory, TMC Helix Park, and the newly announced TMC BioPort. BioPort is TMC’s newest initiative and will serve as the Texas Medical Center’s biomanufacturing and medical supplies distribution engine. The district will span several hundred acres driving the much-needed repatriation of critical medical supplies and new cell and gene therapies. In addition, TMC BioPort will provide on-site upskill training center, creating over 100,000 new job opportunities for residents in the Greater Houston region. This vital initiative is aligned with the expectation that the US will significantly increase its biomanufacturing capacity to assure ready access to pharmaceuticals, therapies and medical supplies.
  10. The GHP and TMC social media accounts were updated every few minutes. I was planning on doing a screenshot of the TMC Bioport tweet but the bank blocks the website. See below for GHP's Twitter account where you can read about it. https://twitter.com/GHPartnership In two weeks GHP will upload the State of TMC 2022 to YouTube. Hopefully new renderings of projects will be revealed at that time. Regarding the TMC Bioport project, I'm also hoping the 500-acre campus is not located outside of the city. There are thousands of acres available at that point. I just don't know where they can get 500 acres. The area that I have in mind is Buffalo Speedway, Holmes Road, and West Airport. The University of Texas is selling hundreds of acres in that area, and UT is already established with the TMC due to MD Anderson and UTHealth. Seems like an easy (or familiar) land swamp.
  11. Listening, reading rather, to the State of Texas Medical Center 2022. Bill McKeon said: TMC Bioport will be the home of our bio manufacturing. This will be a new 500-acre campus and we are still in the due diligence phase. We believe this alone will add another 1000,000 jobs. Where exactly do they have 500 acres close to the medical center? Wishful thinking; are they grabbing up the Buffalo Speedway land? By the way, did the TMC3 campus just officially get rebranded at TMC Helix Park? "TMC3 is now TMC Helix Park which will become the new city center for TMC"
  12. CoStar Group has officially retired and closed Emporis. You are not even allowed to search the old database, it is completely offline. So glad that HAIF's database of (Houston) buildings is larger and better. https://forum.newyorkyimby.com/t/emporis-is-folding/21779 Dear Emporis Community Member, I am writing to let you know that we have made the decision to retire the Emporis community platform. This change will take effect on Tuesday 13th September 2022. Following the retirement you will no longer be able to access Emporis. This decision was not made lightly. For more than twenty years, Emporis (and its predecessor site) has served as a platform for community members to share data, information and of course, great imagery of some of the tallest buildings and skyscrapers across the globe. I would like to thank you for your contributions over the years. CoStar Group acquired Emporis in November 2020, recognising the truly global nature of the data in Emporis, and since the acquisition we have integrated much of that data into the global CoStar information platform for the benefit of our client base of brokers, owners, and lenders.
  13. I was browsing The Southwest Citizen dated June 15, 1950 and noticed a full page ad for Piggly Wiggly located at 6612 South Main St. Additional stores are as follows: Store number 1 - 6615 So. Main Store number 2 - 75th and Lawndale Store number 3 - 7101 Ave. H Store number 4 - ? Store number 5 - 5620 Telephone Rd. Store number 6 - 3145 Southmore Blvd. I love these prices too. Wild to look at the differences between 1950 and today.
  14. Jos. F. Meyer Co. I was looking at The Age. magazine dated February 25, 1876 and saw a business ad for Jos F. Meyer Travis St., Houston, Texas Dealer in Iron, Carriage, and Wagon Maker Materials. Jos F. Meyer was the person who responsible for the Meyerland neighborhood.
  15. Very cool find! I found this while browsing The Age. magazine dated February 25, 1876. I did not know Mitchell Louis Westheimer had stables.
  16. I was looking at an old The Rice Thresher magazine dated October 19, 1956 and saw this small article about the Holmes Road Lounge. Is there an address for this place? The article mentions "keep the lounge clean or adjourn the Holmes Road Dump." Are they speaking of the formal landfill where Wildcat Golf Club was eventually built? Located at 12000 Almeda Rd. Or possible they are speaking about the Holmes Road Incinerator off of Highway 288? I really wonder where, and what type of building/development. Holmes road is an industrial area. I don't see Rice University having a building out there.
  17. I was looking at old The Bellaire Texan magazines and in an issue dated September 23, 1964 there was a business listing for a place called The Yum Yum Tree located at So. Main & Holcombe. Anyone recall this place? Houston's most unusual imports - gifts - gourmet foods.
  18. The parcel has been fenced with a new gate and had a screen put on. What's happening here? A surprise BioTech tower to keep up with TMC3? Houston Methodist was left out of the campus. Sadly, I don't think they were able to grab all the parcels in that block of land. They will have to build around the old multifamily building and vacant lots owned by MD Anderson.
  19. Noticed an equipment staging area at 4608 1/2 Westheimer Rd. I got my hopes up for "ROD Phase II" but it's probably just for the ROD remodel. We need a hotel on Westcreek! Or a new office tower!
