I was browsing an old neighborhood newspaper called Southwestern Times. The issue is dated December 21, 1944. This newspaper add was for a dance studio called Emmamae Horn Dance Studio located at 6620 1/2 South Main St. Does anybody know about this place? How does it differ from the End O Main ball room located down the block at 9810 South Main?

I was browsing an old neighborhood newspaper called Southwestern Times. The issue is dated December 21, 1944. I noticed an add for a local barber shop ran by V.B. Shearon, Ed Nevills, H.W. Farris, and Paul Elliott. Did anyone ever get their haircut here? Any stories about this place?

I was browsing an old neighborhood newspaper called Southwestern Times. The issue is dated November 2, 1944. Looks like Mott's Store was a department store, or a general store for home goods. Anyone know the history to this company?

I was browsing an old neighborhood newspaper called Southwestern Times. The issue is dated September 13, 1945. Noticed an add for Mading's Drug Stores that had 3 store numbers and addresses listed. They must have been later stores since they are counting into the teens. Mading's Drug Stores No. 14 - 6602 South Main No. 15 - 2402 University Boulevard No. 19 - 1930 Bissonnet

I came across information on the Institute of Hemotherapy on a 1970s map of the TMC. I wasn't sure if IOH was located in a stand alone building or if the institute was housed inside of another building. Anyone know about the Institute of Hemotherapy? What university/doctor was behind this? Building location? Definitely looks like the IOH was not affiliated with any other TMC company, and in 1979, an agreement between UTHealth and IOH was proposed. From a UT Board of Regents meeting on October 11-12, 1979. Meeting number 764. https://www.utsystem.edu/sites/utsfiles/offices/board-of-regents/board-meetings/agenda-book-full/msa10-11-1979.pdf 7. Houston Health Science Center: Proposed Affiliation Agreement with the Institute of Hemotherapy, Houston, Texas. RECOMMENDATION President Bulger and Chancellor Walker recommend that, approval be given to the affiliation agreement by and between The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston and the Institute of Hemotherapy, Houston, Texas. The agreement was executed by the appropriate officials on August 29, 1979, to be effective upon approval by the Board of Regents. PURPOSE The agreement will enhance the educational experiences of assigned students at the Houston Health Science Center.
